RICHARD BLAND produced another top European Tour performance as he tied 12th in yesterday’s Spanish Open.
The Stoneham golfer earned himself 24,300 Euros. But the sting in the tail was that he could have doubled the cheque but for a final round of 75 that was his worst of the tournament – following his 73, 68, 72 start – and included two shots dropped in the tricky last three holes.
The in-form Southampton 41-year-old still finished just four behind Miguel Angel Jimenez, 50, who extended his record as the oldest winner in European Tour history with victory in a three-man play-off. Jimenez, Richard Green and Thomas Pieters had finished tied on four under par.
