Almost 50 golfers from Totton cannot be accused of spending too much time in the pub.
However, when they are not enjoying a pint, the chances are you will find them on the fairways in Ryder Cup style competition.
Regulars from The Saxon at Calmore, town centre pub Elephant & Castle, Totton Sports & Social Club and Calmore Community Centre all put 12 players forward in a blind draw. The 48 players battled for the ‘Totton Golf Challenge’ at Hampshire Golf Club, Andover, in what is planned to become an annual event.
Organiser Kevin Slaymaker said: “Pubs and clubs are going through a bit of a quiet time and this is all about the community coming together.”
To add excitement to the event, all four captains coincidentally placed themselves in the final group, with Totton Sports & Social Club, captained by Glen Wheeler-Osman, securing victory.
