George Burley has warned his team they must be more focused than ever as they take on the Championship's bottom team today.

Confidence is flowing through the Saints supporters after four wins on the bounce which have lifted the team into the play-off places, just four points off of the division's leaders.

Many supporters are counting on another convincing victory against rock-bottom Shrimpers at Roots Hall tomorrow - but Burley is making sure his team keep their feet on the ground.

Far from resting on his team's laurels, he is calling on them to improve.

He said: "We're on a decent run of four wins on the trot which is great because it helps us push up the table, which we needed to do.

"We wanted to get in the top six and we have got there but we know it's a long season. There is still room for improvement. We have got to be focused week in week out and hopefully we can keep up there."

He added: "Everything's very tight, there's not much between the teams.

"Southend got promoted last season, started well but of late have found it difficult but unfortunately we can't take anything for granted.

"Of late the results have gone against them but they have shown by beating Man United in the Carling Cup that they're a match for anybody.

"It's a tight ground, a good atmosphere and this league is very competitive. You've got to be at your best every week."

There is one change to the Saints squad that has been so consistent of late - undefeated in their last seven - with the return of Inigo Idiakez.

The Spanish midfielder has missed the last five games with a thigh strain but has had a full week's training and will be in the squad that travels to Roots Hall.

Burley also has a decision to make in attack on whether to partner the Championship's joint top scorer, Grzegorz Rasiak, with Kenwyne Jones for the third game in a row or hand a start to Bradley Wright-Phillips, who has come off the bench to score in the last two games.

Either way, the goals are flowing for Saints at the moment.

"The record speaks for itself - 13 goals in four games and we are the leading goalscorers in the division," said Burley.

"I said before we were creating opportunities and having more shots than anybody but not finding the net, and if we do that you win matches."
