London Exiles 19 Old Whitgiftians 29

The Old Whitgiftians held out to record a good win against London Exiles on Saturday.

A very even opening period was followed by an OW penalty in front of the posts that was converted by Pearce. It was his break after 15 minutes that led to the first try by Wiseman. Pearce converted.

The Whitgift forwards started to dominate and it was another Pearce break that gave Courtney a try, converted by Lamb. On the stroke of half time Milner broke from the loose to score with Lamb converting.

The second half provided a different picture to the first.

Pearce was off injured and the old boys had lost their main weapon. However they held out in defence until some loose handling in their own 25 gave the Exiles a converted try. A series of injuries, a player in the sin bin and some erratic refereeing further disrupted Whitgift and the Exiles scored two more tries, one converted, to give a score of 24-19 in favour of the Croydon team.

A wonderful effort by the forwards in a rolling maul, progressing 30 yards up the pitch, gave veteran Andy Glynn a try near to the final whistle and Whitgift were the winners 29-19.
