Winchester threatened Teddington’s 52-game unbeaten run but were unable to prevent the south west London side claiming a 24-15 victory at North Walls Park.
Winchester full-back Rory Lillington kicked a penalty three minutes after the start but, in what proved to be a ferociously-contested game, Teddington quickly replied with an unconverted try.
Ground conditions were poor, handling errors were common and both sides committed numerous offences that went unseen.
In a punishing and match-settling flourish of card waving, the referee reduced Winchester to 13 men on the half-hour.
Teddington were then awarded a penalty try and, taking full use of their advantage, they added a further try, both converted and carrying them to a 19-3 interval lead.
Restored to full strength, Winchester controlled the second half and scored two fine tries.
Lillington converted after Campbell Ettinger forced his way over for the first and centre Matt Woods claimed the second. Teddington’s only real attack of the second half gave a match-winning try to the unconvincing league leaders.
Ellingham & Ringwood found second-placed Camberley too hot to handle at Parsonage Barn Lane.
The visitors kept up their chase for leaders Teddington with a 67-5 success.
Fordingbridge’s scheduled home game with Old Wellingtonians was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
