FRESH from masterminding an incredible victory in the America’s Cup, Sir Ben Ainslie is to lead his own crew against some of the world’s best sailors.

Sir Ben will skipper a crew in the Bermuda Gold Cup, the penultimate event of the World Match Racing Tour.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist will be racing alongside best friend and fellow Olympian Iain Percy in memory of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, who died in a tragic accident while training for the America’s Cup.

Sir Ben, from Lymington, is a previous winner of the event with his Team Origin crew – but this year will be racing under the banner of the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.

He said: “We are returning this year to focus attention on the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, that has been established since Bart’s tragic death in San Francisco this year. “The Ben Ainslie Racing Team, called BART, is racing in the Argo Group Gold Cup to raise awareness for this worthwhile cause in memory of our late friend and fellow sailor. “Bart and the charity are the reason we are racing, as well as the reason we are getting the band back together.”

The event starts on Monday (Oct7) to October 13.
