Claude Puel has issued a statement after his sacking at Saints.
It reads: "It has been tremendously enjoyable to manage in the unbelievable and unique environment of the Premier League. However, today marks the end of the current chapter in my management career.
"I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to all the players, staff at the club’s training ground and at St Mary’s, and all others who gave their very best on a daily basis for Southampton Football Club.
"I also say a very big thank you indeed to the Southampton fans, who gave me their tremendous support and backing over the course of last season.
"I also give my gratitude to the club itself for the opportunity to manage in the Premier League, and be part of a very exciting season for the club, players and fans in reaching a cup final at Wembley and also participating in a European campaign.
"Finally, I wish everyone at and associated with Southampton Football Club all the very best for the future."
