Adkins set to tinker with formation again?
8:21am Friday 9th November 2012 in Saints News
NIGEL ADKINS
NIGEL Adkins will again have to make a call on Saints’ formation tomorrow.
Adkins started at West Brom with a 4-4-2, which allowed him to play Adam Lallana and Gaston Ramirez on the flanks and Rickie Lambert in tandem with Jay Rodriguez up front.
He could keep all those four in and change the shape against Swansea tomorrrow, but that risks exposing the wide areas.
However, with Saints in such desperate need of a win, and playing at home, he may decide it is worth the risk.
“The manager of the football club picks the team,” said Adkins. “I am the manager of the football club, I pick the team.
“My objective is to win games of football. You talk about tactics, previously you've seen the different formations we've employed.
“We have not just employed one formation.
“We’ve changed formations, we've changed tactics with a desire to win a game.
“We've done that very successfully over the previous seasons and will continue to do that."

Although this is just a rehashed story! According to Echo sources it is also thought it may be medical condition brought on by managing, Fox and Guly. Guly has a multitude of TAXI hotline numbers to share with Nigel, BUT none of those taxis are taking him or us back to the championship!

Seems ironic that most of formations have been variations on 4-3-3 yet when NA buckles to public opinion and plays 4-4-2 (I think it might have been more like 4-1-3-1-1 actually) it's one of our most disappointing games of the season. Maybe NA does know what he talking about after all.

we need a solid back four, playing in position. Both full back go missing, & Maya in particular leaves the flank unprotected. Aigel must know this - its been happenng all season. Time to realise it has to be rectified.

Gazza, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Shaw, JWP, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Gaston, Punch, Lambert
Another mistake from Fonte and I would have Jos back in for him was very intersting when watching Nevilles analysis other night of our goals conceded how many of them he is at fault for. Also its time for a performance from Lallana COYRs

And we'd get the added benefit of preventing Clyne and Puncheon playing on the same flank - someone else said here a couple of weeks back that it doesn't work. Don't know why, but they just get under each others feet. Hesitant going forward, and confused when defending.
If it's to be 2 up front, play Rickie and Mayuka. At least you have a contrast of styles, and at last some pace up front with genuine threat at this level. We can't send out a team that has no pace, or crucially without anyone who has the ability to change pace explosivelyhope to prosper at this level.
If Rickie blows out early, then send on Rodriguez. Tell him to hold the ball up and link play like Rickie does.

It is good to see that you came back onto the site again you help to bring a bit of sanity on here.
I admire your stance against some of the abuse that has been thrown at you at times.
We need well considered posts for debates.
Unfortunately too much **** and abuse sometimes spoils the threads.
A bit of fun and p1ss taking can only enhance it.

4-2-3-1 I feel we played our best football when using this at home against Villa and Fulham with Gaston in the Le Tiss role behind the striker.

I think Swansea have a few injury concerns at the moment. Their keeper is out, which is a big plus as he single-handily kept them in games last year! Plus Gary Monk is playing at CB!
Fingers crossed for tomorrow, should be a good game!

Comments on here about the chapel being quiet this season. The very very slow saints go marching in gets destroyed by the acoustics. We should sing up tempo so the team can respond in kind. And as an afterthought maybe the chapel should climb off their knees and sing a song or two!!!

As a previous poster stated how many different pictures of Adkins has the Echo shown in the past month ? It has to be at least 30 as we had 2 new ones today and rarely a day goes by without all of us seeing a diffent pic of Nigel.
Surely as bad as things are it is high time the Echo needs to give Nigel a break ....I can't imagine how Nigel must feel seeing his picture in the Echo on a daily basis.
I am sure he has enough stress trying to turn things around and it would make him less stressful if the Echo would give him a break from their obsession with Adkins stories.
Nigel has done wonders for the Club and needs all the encouragement the Echo has the capability to give him ....not the negative articles that we read daily .
Come on Mr Sports Editor use some creativity in writing some stories of interest l for your readers such as a story about Ramirez and how he is adapting to life in Southampton and his hopes and dreams for the Club.
Give Nigel a break..Thank you!

I know that the one thing the aunts need is the support of the whole crowd for the whole of the game. Did you hear/see the support at WBA it made me proud to be a saint.

Drat it seems the programme sellers story broke weeks ago .. if only we were kept constantly reminded of the plight of those poor devils whose jobs were simply slashed. Amazingly the Echo did a story on it .... how come they haven't mentioned it again and again and again and again and again and again? I just don't understand it a story packed with pathos, ethos, Porthos and probabaly D'Artagnan .. .and a political hot potato, with elements of unemployment, redundancy, profit margins, the end of an era. Let their plight be heard, again and again and again and again and..... oh you get what I mean.
