Saints fans backing Gazza for QPR test
8:10am Thursday 15th November 2012 in Saints News
By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter
Paulo Gazzaniga
Saints fans have backed Paulo Gazzaniga to continue in goal for Saturday’s basement battle with QPR.
As of last night, supporters had registered more than 3,000 votes in an online poll asking which of the club’s three keepers should play at Loftus Road this weekend.
Gazzaniga, despite being the least experienced, claimed 50 per cent of the vote, with Kelvin Davis second on 38 per cent, and Artur Boruc trailing well behind those two, on 12 per cent.
The fans’ backing will come as a welcome boost to 20-year-old Gazzaniga, who committed a costly error in the 1-1 home draw with Swansea last Saturday. The Argentine’s poor pass out of goal was miscontrolled by Maya Yoshida, allowing ex-Saint Nathan Dyer to pounce on the ball before firing in the equaliser.
It was an unfortunate moment for Gazzaniga, who had performed well in the previous match, a 2-0 defeat at West Brom.
Whether manager Nigel Adkins chooses to keep faith with him for what promises to be a pressurised and tense encounter between the Premier League’s bottom two sides this weekend remains to be seen.

If you don't have a story please don't make one up by putting some spin on an online poll.
Maybe you should be investigating things better or actually getting into the clubs good-books so they can feed you proper news instead of making tid-bits up?

As for the keeper, I've honestly not seen enough of Boruc to make a judgement. I like Gazza though - he's young, gifted and good-looking, which means if we ever struggle to fill our exec bosses then we should open them up to hen parties - there wouldn't be a dry seat in the house.

Timmy Flowers and Shilts weren't born England goalkeepers. They fluffed their lines early on. This is lad who probably had a paper round when he was at Gillingham, going by what that club pays. Come on guys, give the lad a break!

Jose Fonte is finally stepping up to the mark, and good on him for doing so, but only because Yoshida is taking all of the ball playing responsibilities from him - you'll notice that the keeper never rolls the ball out to Jose! Giving him the armband just as he is finding his feet is not the way to go.
For my mind, let's leave it as it is, not unsettle the players with moving other things that dont need to be moved.
All we need to do is keep solid and focussed until January - then look to sign a couple of new players to help out.
As for Buttner, he didn't want to come here after Man Utd came in for him. AND, if we had signed him then Luke Shaw might have just slipped through our fingers, and he looked class on Saturday!

These polls are a little bit of fun, but do we realy think that team selection is actually affected by the votes of mostly uninformed posters on an Internet Forum. I like to think that the Club listens to its supporters but not to the extent of influencing team selection. I am sure if the team picked matches the fans opinion it is because it is the right option, not the popular opinion.

I think he needs to play his own game. He bring accurate long distribution that can get teams on the hop and always looking backwards. If he is forced to do continual short delivery the team will miss out on new opportunities to attack and errors like the last one will happen again.

As for the keeper, I've honestly not seen enough of Boruc to make a judgement. I like Gazza though - he's young, gifted and good-looking, which means if we ever struggle to fill our exec bosses then we should open them up to hen parties - there wouldn't be a dry seat in the house.

I like to think that the Club listens to its supporters but not to the extent of influencing team selection. I am sure if the team picked matches the fans opinion it is because it is the right option, not the popular opinion.

He's an untidy player who has the touch of an elephant. He's quick and he's good going forward but can't defend. He's a wing back, really. We bought him to make Evra better and it's worked so I doubt we'll see him again."

Clinical Insanity! After last weeks comedy of errors, which cost us three points, we are going to end up destroying the confidence of a decent young keeper by asking too much of him too soon. Kelvo has experience, loves the club, communicates with the defence and must be hungry for another go. Boruc should just go, my granny would stop more shots and she's been dead for ten years.

Goalies? As mentioned above, we're not the only Prem team struggling to work out which one should play. And the contrasting views as to who Nigel should pick (not just between the sticks) emphasises what many of us regularly say, the best-placed person to pick the team is the one in the hot seat who watches the players day in day out, not us. So, whichever one Nigel picks on Saturday will have been selected for good reason and will have my full support.

I ask because suddenly people seem to have come to the conclusion that he needed urgent replacement and is no longer even second choice, despite arguably being a key figure in our return to the Premier League.
At Leeds in particular he didn't seem to be that past it and the players certainly seemed to value and trust him.
I'm not his biggest fan, but just seems odd that we wanted to de-stablise that position and make it clear he wasn't going to be No.1 from early pre-season on. Surely he earned a chance and surely he adds assurance to that back line?
If Gazza is the choice, fine. But it is a tough baptism for anyone, especially with that defence in front of him.
For those people saying he was crap in the first few games I really don't think he was anything like as bad or at fault as the majority of our back line, particularly Jos, Fox and Fonte, plus he saved two ridiculously conceded penalties.
Gazza looks good I have to say and very composed for his age, just seems odd to make one of your most senior players the fall guy.

What's more, can anyone remember one single goalkeeping error that Crispin's granny (God bless her) has made these past six years?
It reminds me of my mate’s granny. A pillar of the community, she was known for the many good deeds she did; visiting the sick, helping the elderly with their shopping etc. Alas, she got severe arthritis in her legs and the last few years of her life were spent in a wheelchair. But what an amazing woman! As the priest remarked at her funeral, 'a wonderful servant to everyone in the community; who, legs apart, was fantastic.' Well, he'd have known.
My mate never spoke to the priest again.

I like to think that the Club listens to its supporters but not to the extent of influencing team selection. I am sure if the team picked matches the fans opinion it is because it is the right option, not the popular opinion.

He is a good goalkeeper who is going to be a great assist to us,But his inexperince cost us last week & will 100% cost us before the season is over,Boruc is a top class GK he was just selected too soon & was servely lacking match practice,Also he maybe the voice we need at the back,I've never seen Gazza shouting at the back four ? Also never seen Lallana clapping his hands getting the players morale or shouting at them ? Isn't that a captains role ? Our squad has so little experince it is acctually scary,We need some good solid experinced pro's in January for example here is my list - Given,Dunne,Gallas,D
awson,Andreas svensson
As for the keeper, I've honestly not seen enough of Boruc to make a judgement. I like Gazza though - he's young, gifted and good-looking, which means if we ever struggle to fill our exec bosses then we should open them up to hen parties - there wouldn't be a dry seat in the house.

I like to think that the Club listens to its supporters but not to the extent of influencing team selection. I am sure if the team picked matches the fans opinion it is because it is the right option, not the popular opinion.

I'm getting really fed up with everyone blaming Gazzaniga and Yoshida for the equalising goal for Swansea. The fact is the ball was in the opposition's final third in an attacking position, with plenty of players to pick and it was Jack Cork who decided to pass a meaningless backwards ball to the defenders that then led to the mix up. Far too often our midfielders squander attacking play and pass the ball sideways and backwards. That's what we need to work on - finding people in spaces. And don't get me started about wing play...if I could have a quid for every time our wingers inexplicably decide to cut inside instead of getting to the bye-line and crossing it in (a much better goal-scoring opportunity), I'd be a rich man.

If Boruc hadn't had his little water bottle misdemeanor he'd have played v Swansea and we'd have got 3 points. I think a bloke with Champions League experience who hasn't done anything wrong so far should be our first choice keeper unless the majority get their way and we get relegated with NA in charge but miraculously bounce back straight away again as if we're West Brom reincarnated. A lot of people seem dead keen on players and a boss who have made several mistakes already this season. I think there's more skates on here than we suspected.

as for keepers, i think that the fa, uefa, fifa and ball manufacturers have progressively made life harder and harder for keepers. balls are lighter, rounder and move in the air alot move in the last 10 years. the idea is to make football more and more attacking biased, more goals and more shots. i feel this has been done to make football more `USA friendly`, the yanks do not like 0-0 draws, and the authorities are trying to create more goals per game because of this. they changed the offside rule to give the advantage to the attacking side, they created the backpass rule. all of these changes have made life harder for keepers and so they dont look as good as they used too. i am not saying that the changes have been a bad thing, but we have to remember that we cant compare the keepers of today with the likes of shilts, flowers or seaman. this is the reason that clubs are struggling to find `great` keepers. it wouldnt surprise me if the next change is to make goals bigger.
as for who should be in goal for saints, i like both gazza and kelv, not seen anywhere enough of AB to comment, whilst KD is a great shot stopper and is very vocal, i feel that PG is a better overall keeper and is the way forward, he fits the saints ideal. i do worry about his confidence but think that if he were dropped that might be a bigger knock to him. stick with him for now and see if he can prove his worth.

Shame really, it was probably the only helpful suggestion on here.
Neither the --- sack him now brigade--- or ---- Nigel for ever, even until the end of time, happy clappers, --- were sensible suggestions in my book.
Had Cortese brought someone in, whether the move was successful or not, it would have at least demonstrated to the supporters that Nigel was being given every possible help to turn things around.
If Nigel does get the chop, he will be in good company, it wouldn't be the first time a previously successful manager, adored by 78% of the fans, has failed and paid the price.
The PL and Championship yoyo of clubs promoted and relegated is littered with managers who have failed the grade at the highest level.
The only successful club managers
to make the grade, after being promoted to the England job, were Alf Ramsey and possibly Bobby Robson in a period spanning nearly 50 years!!
The inexperience of both NC and NA was demonstrated in the transfer window, for God's sake, even before a ball was kicked this season, how many supporters pleaded with NC and NA to strengthen the defence, if they could see the need, why the hell couldn't NC and NA?
Nothing significant has been done to change tactics etc. and new blood cannot be brought in until Jan so I can't see the results changing, which will mean NA will be gone by the end of Nov.
The pressure on NA to go will be immense when Saints lose to QPR on Saturday as seems inevitable.

The pressure on NA to go will be immense when Saints lose to QPR on Saturday as seems inevitable.

can we all ignore the idiot who currently calls himself branfoot!
as for keepers, i think that the fa, uefa, fifa and ball manufacturers have progressively made life harder and harder for keepers. balls are lighter, rounder and move in the air alot move in the last 10 years. the idea is to make football more and more attacking biased, more goals and more shots. i feel this has been done to make football more `USA friendly`, the yanks do not like 0-0 draws, and the authorities are trying to create more goals per game because of this. they changed the offside rule to give the advantage to the attacking side, they created the backpass rule. all of these changes have made life harder for keepers and so they dont look as good as they used too. i am not saying that the changes have been a bad thing, but we have to remember that we cant compare the keepers of today with the likes of shilts, flowers or seaman. this is the reason that clubs are struggling to find `great` keepers. it wouldnt surprise me if the next change is to make goals bigger.
as for who should be in goal for saints, i like both gazza and kelv, not seen anywhere enough of AB to comment, whilst KD is a great shot stopper and is very vocal, i feel that PG is a better overall keeper and is the way forward, he fits the saints ideal. i do worry about his confidence but think that if he were dropped that might be a bigger knock to him. stick with him for now and see if he can prove his worth.
I generally agree with you. Although personally, rather than all the ball-design changing and the pass back rule (except from deadballs), I would have increased the goal size marginally. That would (marginally) increase the number of goals and (marginally) favour the side which has the most attempts on goal.

She also fails to realise that there are more than two opinions about NA, there are many and not divided into two camps but then her opinions are based largely on supposition and obsession and lack intelect, pertinence or fact. Hence the lack of answers when you ask her a question, just rhetoric. Safer that way.

here we go then;
Fact: No one at SMS has PL experience= wrong, davis, kelv (thats 2 players who have pl experience)
Fact: The players signed are no better than what we had= wrong, gaston and clyne are far better than the players they replace!
Fact :We've loaned better players out this season than what we've kept= wrong, billy is not better than rickie.
Fact: Bookies make QPR odds on favourites for Sat, they don't always get it right but not many of them go bust= wrong, bookies do go bust ask mccririck! oh and they got it wrong for our promotion last season!
Fact: Out of possible 33pts we have chalked up 5= yes but we never expected points against manc manure arse and spuds before the games.
Fact: Many successful managers have failed when promoted to PL= whats the point, just as many if not more have succeeded!
Fact: Only one club in PL history has escaped relegation after a start as bad as Saints= whats your point, you have just said it can be done.
Fact: Cortese as fallen out with practically everyone, is he right or is everyone else wrong?= wrong, NC may have fallen out with some but nowhere near `practically everyone`.
Fact :NA is out of his depth proved by team selection, substitute

Fact: the Saints defence is the worst ever --- if the opponents find it difficult to score then we help them out with OGs and presents= worst ever? i can remember worse, yes some mistakes and og`s but which team hasnt.
Fact: Even the happy clappers say Saints have only played well against Swansea and for 45 mins against AV and Spurs --- a max of 180 mins out of 990?!=couldnt be more wrong, manc manure were both good games in which saints played well, so your maths is out there then.

I must admit to overlooking the over the hill goalkeeper who is so good he has been replaced by an equally over the hill goalkeeper and a 20 year old novice and the addition of an average at best, outfield player.
Neither has helped NA in the past 11 games and are unlikely to in the future, I don't blame them,it is not their job and they have neither the experience or talent to do this.
I do blame omnishambler for not recognising that NA is drowning and not throwing him a lifebuoy

what you need to do is read when people correct your `facts` and learn/understand that you are not always right! so come on, you said as fact that saints had not signed anyone better than what we had, so are gaston and clyne worse than those they replaced? you said as fact that saints have loaned out better players than they kept, so is billy better than rickie? you said as fact that Many successful managers have failed when promoted to PL, so how many? and compared to howmany have succeeded? you cant just guess! i know you wont answer these questions, but then you are never wrong, as i just proved!

FACT: Tebourba has never been abusive to anyone who posts opposing views to his, he is too experienced, educated, knowledgeable of football, to do so, preferring the wisdom and accuracy of his posts to do the talking for him.
FACT: To illustrate the depth of his knowledge of the game Tebourba predicts that Saints will lose by at LEAST TWO CLEAR GOALS at QPR , if he is wrong he will never post on here again --- but if he is right, as he certainly will be --- Saints lose and NA gets the chop, then all you happy clappers will be eating your words !

"The 2 players with PL experience at SMS are not respected, experienced PL coaches as I have always called for" you said as a FACT that no one at sms had prem experience i showed you to be wrong (again) so all you do is change your statement! oh and if you dont think we have a respected coach with prem experience at sms then i guess you have never heard of a player who played for saints in the prem, and is now a saints coach, i will let you google the answer but as a gift for your leaving do on sat i will give you a clue! JD
oh nearly forgot, i pointed out to you the other day when you decided to call NC "the Omnishambler" what the word ment! remember omni=all so everything that NC does is a shambles? well i guess saving the club, winning the jpt, getting promoted twice in 2 years and getting saints back to the prem in a stable financial state whilst breaking the transfer record twice must be a shambles!

The only difference betwen us, is you appear to be a happy clapper--see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil about Saints, whilst I am the best supporter Saints can have-- a critical friend.
Let me put this in to context for you, a happy clapper, when asked by his friend on going out for the evening --do I look OK? -- will answer yes you look great, fantastic, wonderful, a million dollars, even though he looks a mess.
A critical friend will answer --- well maybe if you considered changing your tie and wore black shoes instead of brown you would look even better.
You may dot the i's and cross the t's and point out where I am wrong but the fact remains that there is no one at SMS who is a respected, experienced PL coach who could help Nigel transcend from successful Championship management to PL management and omnishambler hasn't seen fit to appoint one.
I think that this is a gross error and as a result NA will be axed, which will be a shame.
One last point, forgive me if I am wrong, no doubt you will correct me, but I thought Markus stumped up the cash to save Saints not the omnishambler.
Anyway it's all words, in my experience if nothing changes, as nothing has changed with Saints since the start of the season, then neither will the results and Saints will be hammered by at least two clear goals on Saturday.
That is the opinion of a critical friend it may not be a FACT but let's see who's right at 5pm on Saturday!

Sadly did that list rather quickly as was busy today. BTW - Our site is getting more interesting again, so you might find a few of us dissapearing, but then again, some might be enjoying it I spose and stay a bit longer. You do seem a bit unhappy today. Grade yourself accordingly 10. Tuh borer (dead boring and needs some valium). Probably right about a lot of stuff - but would you want someone to show you how to correctly flush the same toilet every single day of your life. 9. Strasbourg. Lives in France - but he's not ohh la la. Needs a garlic enema really. 7. Anus Mc Coke up. Angus can have a bit of a crack - but often just breaks up when he is in need of his next fix. 6. Seed. Loves Lew who can be depressing, but is often going on about Mr Saville. Don't know what to think of this chap really. Has he been buying dodgy photos and changing his wikipedia entry. Loads of multiple logons on this site and down the road. 5. Village Bob. Blows hot and cold depending on whether he understands the issues being discussed and if he has been out of the village recently. 4. Osprey. Mostly jovial. But can get more distressed when he has to correct your spelling, or when he has to use his other 'Don' computer. I bet it has sticky pads, and has got a crap screen.. 3. Bad Belly Bill n Slugger. Both fairly happy but Slugger can get wound up when you mention the word "docks" A sore point somewhere there. Bill wants to be a comedy Simon Cowell, but obviously gets wound up thinking about how he could possibly tuck his jumper in. Thinks he is very clever. 2. SheilHa. Almost always jovial apart from when he gets technical. I think he is on valium with all those ha ha's 1. Kent, Scooter. Dead happy all the time - until Village Bob decked them I'm sorry if I missed anyone out.TEBOURBA wrote: As the season ticks on it seems my campaign for Cortese to bring in some PL coaching help for Nigel has been ignored. The only successful club managers to make the grade, after being promoted to the England job, were Alf Ramsey and possibly Bobby Robson in a period spanning nearly 50 years!! The pressure on NA to go will be immense when Saints lose to QPR on Saturday as seems inevitable.I read all your post, never read one before, and yep your one depressing peanut. Defenders were chased in the window and like liverpool fc who we beat ramirez to,we were,nt successful. Neither you or I or jack fly know why. On your "unique" suggestion that a coach could have been bought in,NA is man enough to admit if he needed help,he,s the boss ,he,s got the shout and thank god for that. Whoever is boss of saints I support, theres no other way,is there ? Unless your just lonely,in which case please accept this cyber-hug. By the way you could re-hash that post before every game for attention-but why bother?
Don't go to the Snooze site today. It'll not cheer you up at all. Its been a great day for Pompey
To be fair...if the PST does keep you lot afloat, I'll take that as a positive for financially struggling lower league clubs everywhere.
I wouldn't hold yer breath though...gonna be a long haul.

101-- I enjoy our banter you are obviously a keen Saints fan as am I.
That is the opinion of a critical friend it may not be a FACT but let's see who's right at 5pm on Saturday!

against NC on a football forum set up so that saints fans can discuss the good and bad around their club. we enjoy debating with each other and know that at the end of the debate we are all still saints fans! to claim that saints will lose by 2 or more goals makes you no fan or supporter of the saints! no fan would ever say that leading up to such an important game. you say you will not post again if they do not lose by that margin, is that a promise? does that mean you wont come back with a different login name?
ML did stump up the cash yes but if NC hadnt put the deal infront of him he would never have realised the club was for sale! NC then brokered the deal with the admin. ML trusted and respected NC`s views and dealings and he is good enough for ML then he`s good enough for me. why you have a problem with a ceo who shys away from publicity and would rather have one who was a media whore like the dark lord, beggers belief.

I must apologise when I stated there is no one at SMS with PL experience I meant, as my many previous postings will confirm, an experienced, respected PL coach to assist NA.
Dream on happy clappers, enjoy your life in the sand pit.
QPR to win by at least 2 goals which will prove who's right the happy clappers or me!

I just don't understand....... you said No PL players at SMS was fact! But the fact is that it wasn't a fact! Infact it was wrong! But you're never wrong and thats a fact!
This is why every one tells you (but you don't listen) to get your facts right before you post. Glad you have admiited about overlooking KD, and that you were wrong, now perhaps you can go away and check on the playing record of Steven Davis and Know you were wrong again!

FACT : Saints have the worst defensive record in the HISTORY of the PL
FACT: Only ONE team has survived in the PL after a start like Saints
FACT: That makes the Saints favourites to be relegated
FACT: The 2 players with PL experience at SMS are not respected, experienced PL coaches as I have always called for
FACT: Many successful managers have not live up to their reputation on being promoted either in the league or into the England job and have been sacked
FACT : Omnishambler has made no public statements to support NA.
FACT: NA is out of his depth and needs support unless anyone really believes that 5 points out of 33 isn't being out of his depth
Everything Tebourba has said will have been proven RIGHT and all the happy clappers will have been proven WRONG!
RYRIHF --- especially at 5pm on Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved the start of the previous post you made.... I must apologise to my readers ............

Notice one of your previous FACTS has dissappeared !!

You see us happy-clappers (aka fans) know that you can't always be right (half-full glass) whilst the incessant repetitive moaners/critical friends (aka theborers) are always poised with their next moan and unstable (half-empty) support.
In two words =Go Away
1) the positive happy-clappy reponse is to attend an away-game soon and feed off the positivity of the support.
2) the negative answer would be for you to disappear-which would be your loss-but not us Saints!
