Saints keeper Gazzaniga puts Norwich nightmare to bed

Daily Echo: Paulo Gazzaniga makes a save at Anfield. Paulo Gazzaniga makes a save at Anfield.

Paulo Gazzaniga put his Norwich nightmare behind him at Anfield.

The 20-year-old keeper was thrust into the spotlight once more after his midweek howler, his third mistake in four games, cost Saints two points against the Canaries.

However, Nigel Adkins kept faith with his young stopper for the match at Liverpool and was rewarded with some good saves.

Adkins, though, insists the shot stopping has never been an issue.

“He made some good saves,” said Adkins.

“We know he can make saves, it’s the other aspects of a young goalkeeper’s development which is the decision making process when you’re very young and he’s only 20.

Decision making “We have a very young side out there but we allow him to go out there and make saves but the decision making process you are only going to get better on by being in the situation to make those decisions.”

I think the lad is better than our other option of Kelvin,,,,Boruc? I'd rather play Borat in goal,,,the problem with goalkeeping errors is that there is nowhere to hide so they get highlighted much more,,,,he has made some quality saves that have kept us in games but his howlers is highlighted,,,keep the faith with the lad,,he'll come good

I didn't see the goal that Gazza let in until Saturday. Beforehand, it sounded as if it was a complete howler, according to the so called "experts". From what I could see, it was a fierce shot, he was possibly a little unsighted and it did take a slight deflection. Over the weekend I saw many other shots not saved, by much more so called experienced and not a lot was said about them. Yes, he is young and inexperienced. Surely some of the responsibility should be shouldered by the rest of the defence.
.I have no idea why NA isn't using KD at the moment. There again I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.
I am convinced we will improve and survive in the Premiership. Next season will see an even greater improvement.

He is still young. When he has to play instinctively (reflex saves) he is excellent, but when he has time to think the doubt creeps in which it would do with any 20 year old playing in this league.
If he was a 20 year old left back and the ball went under his foot nobody would bat an eyelid, but because he is in goal it counts.
As the team settles in front of him his confidence will grow.
My money is on him.

Isn't it nice that there is thoughtful comment and discussion about the rights and wrongs of SFC on here today.
Up to this point in time the site hasn't be bombarded by inane comments from our resident POMPEETROLWUMS.
They achieved their objective of totally dominating the previous disscussion points all weekend.
This could and should have been stopped by the Shhhhhhhhhhhhh campaign.
It has been quite noticable that many of the varied posters on here have declined to post.
Wonder why?
By continuing to acknowledge these people by replying to them creates the tit for tat rubbish that is continually infecting this web site.
The sole intention to deny interested Saints supporters any breathing space.
These people either "support" the now defunct Portsmouth or have no allegence to any team or any aim in life other than disruption.
We are giving them the air that they breath,we have to learn this or our web site will be as bad as the reportedly, Portsmouth one.
Deprive these people.

SAINTS FANS WILL WANT A WIN AGAINST READING !!

The Players and Manager must know that this means a lot to the fans after last years mugging.

6 POINTS against reading and sunderland and we must all fight for victory.

Agree with Seed that if 4 points up for grabs - then beating sunderland will be really good and help the fight for survival.

fulham tickets will probably make general sale and if not there is always the neutral stand.

Let's change up gear and pick up the pace ... liverpooool was not really good enough in terms of performance - although defensively there is progress.

Being honest - I read the back page of the Echo today and read that the occasion got to the players - it's a sickener as anfield is a shithole and it did not affect any of the fans ....

To be fair to the players 4-5-1 is damage limitation and they are not to blame for that. Lack of composure was a problem ......

LET'S GET BEHIND THE TEAM AND SORT reading OUT and then sunderland ....

NO FEAR !!
NO SURRENDER !!

(no drinking with those plastic wannabe reading fans before the game with their blue army chant ...)

The famous quote was that the great PETER SHILTON was worth 10 points a season to whoever he played for. That was back in the days of only 2 points for a win.Now he would be worth 20 plus points a season.
The 3 keepers NA has played this season have all blundered and let in soft goals so we need a proven premiership keeper to help keep us in the top flight.
Come january i would try for Brad Friedel. There is talk that he is wanted back at Blackburn. If that is a case how about going in for the current Blackburn keeper PAUL ROBINSON.
Talking keepers i see TOMMY FORECAST actually got a start for Gilingham this weekend. They lost 2-0. Oh well we can forget about Tommy then.
Gazza's display on saturday was ok in my book so i expect him to start on saturday unless Nigel feels that so much is at stake in the READING match that he brings back old hand Kelvin D.

And who instructs Gazza to waste time at goal kicks? (some times in the first half!).
Kelvin Davies is brave and one of the main reasons that we gained promotion. Get him back.
Gazzaniga is the worst first team goalkeeper in the Premier League. He is not brave in a 50/50 challenge and his decision making is poor. Is any Premier League club playing a goalie on the basis of "one for the future"? Nigel, may we have "one for now" please. And who instructs Gazza to waste time at goal kicks? (some times in the first half!). Kelvin Davies is brave and one of the main reasons that we gained promotion. Get him back. Roperdon

Sweeping statement of the day.. Cos you have analized and assessed every first team premiership goalie haven't you?
This has to be the most uninformed post ever in the history if echo posts (another sweeping statement)

You're good at being a critic, but not so good at coming up with anything insightful or funny. In other words, you're a bore! A little more effort, Max!

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

MEANS be quiet.

Means they give up.

As I cannot bring myself to comment directly to the 2 decenters who both have made "Comments" on this post.
I feel justified to have posted it, because it obviously made a direct hit in both cases.
I may bore them and may be an oaf but at least I have got a life.
COYS.

Is this the same Given who can't get into an Aston Villa team which we beat 4-1? No thanks! As for Butland he's been over-hyped, mainly due to the England goalkeeping coach being the Birmingham coach, so he's been put in the spotlight. It's not as if Butland doesn't make mistakes, for England he ended up kicking the ball straight to the striker, and he also conceded 5!! against Barnsley. Gazza is just as good, if not better than Butland, but didn't get the hype because of the above and not being English.
