Ramirez worry for Adkins

GASTON RAMIREZ GASTON RAMIREZ

Saints’ club record signing Gaston Ramirez is a doubt for this weekend’s match against Reading after returning to Uruguay this week.

The 22-year-old, pictured, was granted leave by the club to fly back to his homeland after last Saturday’s defeat at Liverpool for what is understood to be a family matter.

His absence casts into doubt his availability for the meeting with the Royals, as two of the Premier League’s bottom three sides go head-to-head at St Mary’s.

Manager Nigel Adkins will be questioned today about when the forward is expected to return, as he faces the media ahead of the Reading match.

Adkins is also likely to be quizzed on Ramirez’s long-term future.

Reports in Italy this week suggested that Fiorentina are keen on luring the player back to Serie A this January and have made contact with his representatives.

The stories emerged after Ramirez told an Italian publication that he would be open to a move to the club in the future.

In the same interview, however, he also stated that he was happy and focused on playing for Saints.

Ramirez only moved to St Mary’s from Italian top-flight side Bologna in August, in a deal worth about £12m.

Should any approach be forthcoming for him, it would be met with stern resistance by Saints.

Despite having been registered for two clubs already this season, Ramirez is technically able to make another switch in January.

If he's not come back when he said he would that's a big fine and then he'll either buckle down or get petulant.

Ramirez is undoubtably a class act but I get the feeling he's using SFC as a stepping stone towards a move to a bigger premier league club, he wouldn't be the first, or last to do that but we should treat him in the same respect, appreciate what we get whilst he's here but don't put too much faith in his long-term commitment.

Well as good as he is, he'll need to step up if that is what he really wants as currently Michu (Swansea) will beat him to that.

We are going to need to show our sensitive, compassionate and sympathetic side to our pet skunts in the coming days. The end is nigh and those with the double brain cell have realised it. The others will get there soon. Now is when they will turn to us. We must be kind and caring - it's not for long.

I think we should set aside the sssssssssssshhhhhhhh

I think we need to be proactive on this one and each pick a skunt to be chummy to. (Obviously we will need to share skunts due to the Fewness of them).

Remember your skunt will naturally spit, bite and scratch but I have faith in us all to be able to handle that without negative reaction and show the patience required.

From what I've seen of him in games he not only sparkles going forward, but tackles back and tries to win the ball back; I believe he will be the "Tackling Le Tiss", and the longer we keep him the better.

Going home because of a family crisis is not exactly a crime; if his Dad is dying, say, of course he should go, and what kind of heart woujld he habve for the club if we stoppd him?

The Fiorentina story is ridiculous; he was asked by an Italian paper if he would go back to Italy, and he said "sure, why not, one day?" - perfectly reasonalbe answer, and again, what is he supposed to say? "Never?" Players & Managers get asked these stupid questions all the time, and try to be diplomatic in their answers, and get crucified for it by nobwands. It's much easier to spot someone like Voldermort swearing blind he's got nothing to do with Blackpool....

Paper talk is just the attempt to sell papers, and should be ignored, just like kent 141. plus, I think the shhhh campaign is the best thing we;ve ever had on this site!

Sorry for changing the subject, but has anyone read this about the new training complex on the OS?

I would love for all the "people in the know" who were telling us this was a "payment issue" to explain where they got their "facts" from. If you haven't seen this, I have pasted below.

"Building work at the Club’s Staplewood Training Ground continues to progress at an impressive rate as we approach the turn of the year.

With the steel framework and roof of the main pavilion now in place, the shape and size of the eye-catching building has started to dominate the site.

As part of the initial plans for the project, the existing ‘Dome’ building – originally constructed in 2006 – was due to undergo a sensitive renovation to help integrate the existing facility into the new build.

However, during construction of the main pavilion the Club was informed by our contractors of concerns regarding the stability and strength of the Dome structure.

These concerns led to a recent temporary pause in the project whilst specific aspects of the best way forward were agreed. With that process now complete, work restarted two weeks ago.

During this brief hiatus it was agreed that the Club’s contractors would demolish the existing Dome building and then rebuild the structure from scratch. Architects are well into the process of redesigning the Dome and planning documents for the new structure are set to be submitted within weeks.

This decision will require significant additional investment in the project than was initially anticipated, but it is felt this investment will guarantee that the state of the art facility meets the precise requirements of the Academy going forward.

The new Dome will seamlessly integrate into the main pavilion building and primarily act as an Academy hub, housing the Academy education centre, medical centre and gymnasium, along with a 3G indoor pitch.

Despite this dramatic new development to the site, there has been no impact to the progress of the rest of the project, with the outdoor 3G pitch one of many new facilities to have already been completed."

Think come the Transfer window we will see some good signings, still unsure about Remirez and whether he will stay or not. But again like people have said this is not much of an issue. The italy talk is stupid given he left italy because of the lack of money in the italian league. Would be more likely he will hold out for a prem club to come for him, where he will earn much more than he would in Italy. so it would be a step backwards for him.

But hope we sign another quality midfielder as a fail safe, so when things like this do happen we have another player to cover who can create chances like remirez.

But see some big changes in the squad in Jan, some going and some coming in, just hope there actually worth there money!.

You know what? That is a GREAT idea. I'll get the drinks in and maybe even treat us to some crisps. Do you play pool? Let's shoot a few frames and, y'know, just talk. I know it's not easy for us blokes to open up (it's just not the done thing in today's society, is it?) but I think it would be really helpful if you just spoke about how it must feel to be losing something so precious. It must be like the arse is falling out of your entire world. I just want you to know that I'm there for you.
First class St Retford, absolutely first class!

See everyone, what a fabulous start we are making.
It's like Morrissey once said, "It's easy to laugh and it's easy to hate; it takes guts to be gentle and kind."

Just think - by next weekend there will be no Portsmouth Football Club. That must be absolutely awful for them. Worse than that, in fact. I mean, Portsea Island has little enough going for it at the best of times.I know it was only a bit of fun for them but if you take their little football club out of the equation then what is there left for them? A rain-lashed boarded-up funfair? They must be genuinely suffering and we need to be samaritans as well as saints.

So everything written in the Echo was a complete load of tosh! So the delays were all because the Dome had to be redesigned . Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story, ay! Probably the same with this story and the Lallana story!!

Most of the sensible people were able to read between the lines and figure out the truth, but it is the old problem of lack of communication from the Club itself, that leaves things open to innuendo and rumour. The papers need something to print and if they haven't got the facts to hand, they have to make it up. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Like Chelsea Celtic have been extremely lucky and if "parking the bus and hoofing the ball up to score goals makes you a top 16 club then on this basis you are a top 16 club.,
I think in beating Barcelona both Celtic and Chelsea had about 20% possession and to me this is indicative of how outplayed both teams were.

Fact or opinion?
Fact. UEFA have us listed as one of their best 16 teams........
Sadly we don't and that is what is important.
Sorry to disillusion our Celtic supporter but the fact they are in the last 16 does not make them the illustrious team he makes them out to be. Using the same argument Chelsea were the best team in Europe last you season. Like Chelsea Celtic have been extremely lucky and if "parking the bus and hoofing the ball up to score goals makes you a top 16 club then on this basis you are a top 16 club., I think in beating Barcelona both Celtic and Chelsea had about 20% possession and to me this is indicative of how outplayed both teams were. Celtic are the best team in Scotland but only just and we are talking about a league that would struggle against championship teams. Just being realistic ....Barcelona are a class team and if parking the bus wins games both Chelsea and Celtic are great at doing this
Maybe Saints should be parking their bus ? Bet it's an open top one though.........
Seriously. If someone still has the bus from 76, I would get the council to buy it and put it in a museum, They would make loads of money from it. They could get cardboard cut outs of Mickey Channon and Nick Holmes, and make even more money from charging fans to get their picky taken with a legend. Maybe the council could even lower parking charges in the city. Its def a good idea. Are you listening the echo?

Interesting and informative post from randre on Staplewood.
Seems as though the architect and or the structural design engineer made a big error.
The suspension of work on any large building project by two weeks, is a major disruption and invariably brings with it, significant financial claims for breach of contract.
Those responsible for the error must be breathing a sigh of relief that Saints Chairman is a nice kind of guy who wouldn't dream of suing them for damages.
Seems my views on over priced, over rated Gaston are shared by many.

What have Spike Milligan and SFC got in common?

The last time they played in Portsmouth in the big league, they both died a death, hence the resentment.

I seem to remember Paul Merton not allowing SM to put the town into room 101 though.. You see - resentment, it just doesn't achieve anything.

We haven't stopped crying since.........
I know times are tough in the Scottish Premier League and that the financial situation is very precarious, but surely you dont need to start hounding us rich English Premier League clubs already, certainly not this far South?!!
Money is the root of all....relegation.

As your waste of around £30m is just about to prove.

PS We have a few more reserve players you can have. And an old bridge in London may be available........

For what is is worth, I think Ramirez is a class player and getting better every week. For those who watch more than 6 minutes of highlights would know this. He puts a **** in as well and covers a lot of the pitch.

Above all, he is a good footballer and getting better as he adapts to the Premiership. I think 12 million could be seen as a bargain if he keeps progressing.

I know our poor little Skunty friends (bless and care for them) would not agree, but 12 million for a player is not much of a gamble in the current Premier League climate. I know it would be enough money to give the Skunts a home and future, but for a player like Ramirez, it is not a lot of money at all (in my very humble opinion)!

Here is a tangential change of subject. Have you heard the rumours about your late MP from Eastleigh. Not joking here. I was given some inside information years ago which came from a high level Policeman. I clocked it, and almost forgot it

What with all the dodgy stuff in the papers lately, this story is now starting to run, and the story makes more sense.

If NC has the opportunity to sell Ramirez and JR in the January window he should seize it with both hands.
He probably won't get anything like the money he paid but can use whatever he gets, to sign a good goalkeeper and two or three seasoned pro's to build a team that will keep us in the PL.
Teams like Norwich, Stoke, WBA don't have prima donnas and may not be that exciting to watch but they grind out results week after week and that is what the Saints need to do to survive and establish themselves in the PL.
I'm encouraged by the news of Duncan's appointment, I hope he is his own man and doesn't have to get every item of communication approved by NC before it is released.
On Ramirez's flight to Argentina, I hope the family problem is not serious, but surely even if he does return in time for the Reading game he will not be match fit owing to jet lag and lack of training?

What you clearly lack in quality you try and make up for with mass volume over-compensating mediocrity. That has to change, you must be exhausted and for what? Sadly the world is laughing at you and not with you. You see, before we got in the Prem and you poor jealous skunt upstarts arrived it was old school. We had Poopey Peado Phil turn up once in a while, spout it off in his own sweet adorable poopey scummer style. He did exactly what it said on the tin. He was class, in a **** caravan type of way. You grasshopper and your girlfriends need to go back to skunt school. Poopey Phil could teach you all a trick or two.
Sorry for preferring Agnetha and Donna, What else can I say. You'll get over it.
What else can you say? indeed, Feck ALL, but I’m sure you will spend the next 12 hours on here trying and failing to articulate it. YAWNING GLORY that fits.
Sugar. What I seriously don't understand is that as a WUM yourself, you used to spend hours and hours, and days on the News site, yet a few posters come on here, and you get jolly wound up. Why? Life is too short.
As this is the last direct response you’ll get from me skunter boy, let’s clear up a few of your paranoias (only a few though, I haven’t got all day). I’ve never visited / participated on the News site, you all really do mean nothing to me apart from an old rival who I love to hate. Life is indeed too short, but you of all people don’t seem to realise it, judging by how you demonstrate yours as to be such a lonely insignificant one to your peers on here. If you spend the same amount of time on the said skunt site then blimey I do confess the following: It must have been me that punctured Mrs Glory, as you would not have found the time to do so ...
Well,as a friend of mine working for Solent Interiors said to me -- what goes around comes around!
WHEN your views have some balance others may agree with you, however it is only the skates and their troll's that do at the moment. Just as well they play "AMATEUR" football at League 1 level then.........
Get back under your rock .... I hear your squad is so poor, even the skunts turned down taking loan players off you Jimmy and they’re a league 2 team
"your squad is so poor" and yet one of the best 16 in UEFA. Officially.

Jeezz. Wonder what Saints are then..............

Apart from shortly to be relegated that is Mushie.......
Fact or opinion?
Fact.

UEFA have us listed as one of their best 16 teams........
Sadly we don't and that is what is important.
Saints fan's opinions more important than UEFA's etc.

Yup. Just about sums up your delusional state. And why you will never.. EVER.. be as successful as the mighty CELTIC.

Keep making us all laugh though eh .....?
Celtic play in a league where there is no opposition and previously there was only 1 competitor so it's hardly surprising that they win everything in Scotland! (It would be like Man U playing in L2) and they have a large following because there are no other teams to support!
To get a real value on how you are doing, perhaps you should check out UEFA's ratings on your league opposition then you may get some perspective!!
Trust me you are the one who is providing the laughs...

Let’s recap scumpty:
You are an underwhelming erection in life.
Give me a kiss and a cuddle scummer.
You and your odd skunt friends (Blue Few) are fecked each and every way to the ultimate reality - liquidation.

You are full of hot scum air and Mrs Glory is losing it.

And here is one for all the academics on the SAINTS pompey debate.Fed up with all the verbal diatribe then how about wrapping your minds around this one.On a different thread yesterday it was mooted that the salvation and progress of both clubs would be best served if the 2 clubs UNITED.
Well here is my team for PORTSOUTHAMPTON UNITED consisting of former players of both clubs.
DAVE BESANT,
IVAN GOLAC,JON GITTENS,MALCOLM WALDRON,MICK MILLS,
BARRY HORNE,NIGEL QUASHIE,ALAN MCLOUGHLIN,
MICK CHANNON,RON DAVIES,PETER CROUCH.
Playing 4-3-3- with fullbacks GOLAC and MILLS OVERLAPPING to provide the crosses for DAVIES and CROUCH to feed on.
ON the subs bench we could pick from BOBBY STOKES,PAUL GILCHRIST,IAN BAIRD,TREVOR HEBBERD,BRIAN HOWARD,HARRY PENK,GEORGE LAWRENCE and even ALF RAMSEY who was signed to pompey on amateur forms in the 1940s and MIKE WILLIAMSON bought by SAINTS from torquay for a 100,000 pounds and never played.later bought by Pompey from watford for a couple of million pounds and again never played-was back on the south coast a couple of weeks ago for the TOON.
ALAN BALL can manage the side with KEVIN BOND defence coach and JOE JORDAN forward coach.HARRY REDKNAPP can be bucket and sponge man with the added job of bringing on the club mascot ROSIE REDKNAPP to water the pitch.
WHAT A TEAM-Not only would they whop the current pompey side i think they would even give the current SAINTS side a good hiding.Cant see FONTE and YOSHIDA being able to cope with CHANNON,RON DAVIES or CROUCH in their pomp can you.

You can use ancient history, like Bolton, Preston, Burnley if you wish...were are they now, funnily enough comparably grotty towns to yours.....

but i digress in the big scheme you can never be as magnificent as us, a poverty stricken. backward episode of Life on Mars is the best portsmuff can offer, we may be a trifle middle class but hey the view is good up here..

Think of Saints as Villa and portsmuff as the scruffy end of Birmingham city zulu warriors and all..same type of fans same fan base..I know which I want....the villaa... well except I am SFC through and through..

Whoops forgot about EYAL BERKOVIC he was mega for saints before deserting us for west ham.guess that was why harry took him to pompey. We never saw the best of BERESFORD because he got injured pretty early on in his saints career. There again you never ssaw the best of MICK MILLS thanks to George Smiths radical policy of scrapping the pompey reserve, A and B teams plus the youth teams in 1966..He was a winger in his Pompey days competing with the likes of TONY BARTON-ANOTHER SAINTS connection there albeit on the management side. Also JOHN MORTIMORE served both clubs in a managerial role.
I never saw BILLY FARMER BOY HAINES although my father who was in the royal navy used to rate him.
AS for Johnny Westwood nice hat shame about the tattoos. He is meant to be a bit of a book worm so could give him a job as a programme seller. Then count nicola call me dracula cortese could sack him.

Over the past few weeks of posting, I have inserted the odd deliberate mistake, for other posters to seize on and chew over, such as £33m spent on transfers, instead of £19m.
I know many of you read my posts with great interest, some even checking and commenting on the time of day I make them.
Surely this bit of banter must make better reading than the endless crude, lewd and offensive exchanges between so called Pompey and Saints supporters.
Those with a brain, intelligent, loyal, knowedgeable, true supporters, of either team, are above all this, so who is doing the postings? -- do you know --- reading this back --- I realise I've answered my own question!

IMO anyone who makes or condones crude, lewd, offensive postings on here, either from Pompey or Saints must be beyond civilised help.
The DE should set up some sort of internet blockage system that immediately recognises and deletes such inane words as skate, poopey, stains, farton and all the other mindless crap.
This would leave the column open to the many experienced posters, like me, who wish to debate the real issues affecting Saints.
We may not always agree, strangely not many seem to agree with my views but that shouldn't stop healthy, sensible debate with the civilised option to agree to disagree.
Crude, offensive, abuse lowers the standing of this otherwise excellent column and the DE should implement control measures to stamp it out.
Those beyond civilised help should contribute to the Dandy, I understand that it is now available on line.

Afternoon Ian,

Well I have had an interesting day off. The Stepford wife malfunction actually culminated at 3.44 with wife No2.

However, I am actually reconsidering whether subclone No2 is a actually really a 2nd subclone of No1.

Anyway the big news is I have found out all their names.

And the big news is that the controller (Dr Know - from the Artificial Intelligence film - Seed brought that on himself - see above) won't be going saturday - so potential for a calming weekend unless Dr Know decides to up the rate before he goes away for the weekend.

The other thing is that he is using a daily countdown technique, which may result in him nicking their car keys next thursday - and is using the PFC salvation day as the cover story. A cunning strategy from Dr Know; but what else would you expect?

He'll be gone in January. Be honest - did he ever really arrive? You'll take a loss of £3 million - £5 million on the transfer fee. Still, good business if you can avoid paying his £70K a week wages in the Championship next season and for the rest of his 4-year contract.

i'm just turning on all my lap-tops , they'll be here soon ........... i'm the only one here don't you know "slugger's site" .
Very droll sluggo!
Afternoon Ian, Well I have had an interesting day off. The Stepford wife malfunction actually culminated at 3.44 with wife No2. However, I am actually reconsidering whether subclone No2 is a actually really a 2nd subclone of No1. Anyway the big news is I have found out all their names. Belinda Sugar Agnetha Poppy Donna And the big news is that the controller (Dr Know - from the Artificial Intelligence film - Seed brought that on himself - see above) won't be going saturday - so potential for a calming weekend unless Dr Know decides to up the rate before he goes away for the weekend. The other thing is that he is using a daily countdown technique, which may result in him nicking their car keys next thursday - and is using the PFC salvation day as the cover story. A cunning strategy from Dr Know; but what else would you expect?
I think that Bill is Agnetha. Last night they both came on the site, holding hands, within a couple of minutes of each other. Can droids have dual personalities? Regardless, the personalities in question are rather vomitus!
You have to watch out for Agnetha,

She is a bit sneaky.

She did the same with St Retford yesterday.

But I think that St Retford is just another Seed - sorry Dr Know clone

The thing is Agnetha admitted to me the other day that she doesn't work anymore.

Three options here.

1. Genuine different poster.

2. It could actually be a clone of Sugar who has admitted to having an army pension on the News site.

3. It is Seed. Who has a few companies allegedly - ie some corner shops, or some sweat shops in and around the locale

Fact or opinion?
Shhhhhhhhh, Osprey.
Sorry, I thought it was cuddle a skate day, I would much rather cuddle a scorpion, but beggars can't be chosers.
lol "cuddle a skate" ? .... i think not , far too slimy ............. looking forward to tebourba's next deliberate mistake though ....... priceless !
Slug, where are the rest of the wives? In the workshop getting reprogrammed?
i'm just turning on all my lap-tops , they'll be here soon ........... i'm the only one here don't you know "slugger's site" .

This is really positive stuff to hear. I guess your biggest worry right now is what on earth you'll do to fill the gaping hole that will be left when your club finally withers and dies through the apathy of the fans.

Well it turns out you've got a real enthusiasm for problem solving. If you send me your address I'll pop a selection of word searches, crosswords and sudoku in the post to help you while away the hours on a Saturday afternoon. Merry Christmas.

Mr Teboura let me tell you a little story
During our last season at the Dell I met Mr Lowe not once but twice in a social context I found the man to be so obnoxious that I vowed never to put a penny into that mans pocket
To that end the only time I attended SMS was when, on 3 occassions, I was given a ticket. Through out this time I followed the fortunes of my team without attending games Immediately after Lowe was ousted and the club went into administration I started attending and purchased a season ticket at the start of our first season in L1
If you dislike/hate or have a massive personal problem with NC then I suggest you take a course of action similar to mine

That's an interesting point and it reminds me of that question raised in Kill Bill: what ire have you got?

Is it the ire of what happened to your club and how it was let down by its own fans? Is it the angst brought on by the all-consuming void soon to engulf the part of your life where football used to be? Or is it the ire of knowing your children will grow up supporting Southampton?

Do tell us because they do say a problem shared is a problem halved.

I dont think no one would follow saints with the back lash and dissapointment would hang around for years . Someone will start up another club even two clubs may spring up from former fans to anything is possible .
Mate, you won't find any answers at the bottom of a glass. Seriously, put the gin down and think of all the positives you have to live for: you've got a lovely tower; you've got handy ferry access to, erm, Calais and you're about to get a brand new Tescos. These are great times for you.
Oooohhh....that's sounds like a lovely place to errrr....mutate. Don't the Navy play Ruggers there as well?

We poor fans finance these clubs and players to live in a privaliged life style and ramirez may not come back ! its disgraceful alot of people in both southampton and portsmouth are short of money and recently lost their jobs .
Portsmouth case as you know previous owners and people steal money from the club from the finance genarated from the Fans and creditors services
looks we are all losers ! .

They are! I know a bloke who flies all the way from Jersey to Manchester to see every United home game (even that really rubbish one last night). The lucky Pompey kids can be at a Premier League club within about half an hour. They are literally loving it.

Yeah, it's uncanny how we're both in exactly the same boat. Next weekend we don't even have a game because our opponents are instead playing in the world club cup. When will they think of the fans?

Sorry i think you club and players will let you down the dream is good but with the three crucial games coming up ramirez has disapeared and the pompey kids would not see a 12million rated player this weekend ! they would stay away.
