Ramirez worry for Adkins
8:00am Thursday 6th December 2012 in Saints News
GASTON RAMIREZ
Saints’ club record signing Gaston Ramirez is a doubt for this weekend’s match against Reading after returning to Uruguay this week.
The 22-year-old, pictured, was granted leave by the club to fly back to his homeland after last Saturday’s defeat at Liverpool for what is understood to be a family matter.
His absence casts into doubt his availability for the meeting with the Royals, as two of the Premier League’s bottom three sides go head-to-head at St Mary’s.
Manager Nigel Adkins will be questioned today about when the forward is expected to return, as he faces the media ahead of the Reading match.
Adkins is also likely to be quizzed on Ramirez’s long-term future.
Reports in Italy this week suggested that Fiorentina are keen on luring the player back to Serie A this January and have made contact with his representatives.
The stories emerged after Ramirez told an Italian publication that he would be open to a move to the club in the future.
In the same interview, however, he also stated that he was happy and focused on playing for Saints.
Ramirez only moved to St Mary’s from Italian top-flight side Bologna in August, in a deal worth about £12m.
Should any approach be forthcoming for him, it would be met with stern resistance by Saints.
Despite having been registered for two clubs already this season, Ramirez is technically able to make another switch in January.

Ramirez is undoubtably a class act but I get the feeling he's using SFC as a stepping stone towards a move to a bigger premier league club, he wouldn't be the first, or last to do that but we should treat him in the same respect, appreciate what we get whilst he's here but don't put too much faith in his long-term commitment.

Going home because of a family crisis is not exactly a crime; if his Dad is dying, say, of course he should go, and what kind of heart woujld he habve for the club if we stoppd him?
The Fiorentina story is ridiculous; he was asked by an Italian paper if he would go back to Italy, and he said "sure, why not, one day?" - perfectly reasonalbe answer, and again, what is he supposed to say? "Never?" Players & Managers get asked these stupid questions all the time, and try to be diplomatic in their answers, and get crucified for it by nobwands. It's much easier to spot someone like Voldermort swearing blind he's got nothing to do with Blackpool....
Paper talk is just the attempt to sell papers, and should be ignored, just like kent 141. plus, I think the shhhh campaign is the best thing we;ve ever had on this site!

I would love for all the "people in the know" who were telling us this was a "payment issue" to explain where they got their "facts" from. If you haven't seen this, I have pasted below.
"Building work at the Club’s Staplewood Training Ground continues to progress at an impressive rate as we approach the turn of the year.
With the steel framework and roof of the main pavilion now in place, the shape and size of the eye-catching building has started to dominate the site.
As part of the initial plans for the project, the existing ‘Dome’ building – originally constructed in 2006 – was due to undergo a sensitive renovation to help integrate the existing facility into the new build.
However, during construction of the main pavilion the Club was informed by our contractors of concerns regarding the stability and strength of the Dome structure.
These concerns led to a recent temporary pause in the project whilst specific aspects of the best way forward were agreed. With that process now complete, work restarted two weeks ago.
During this brief hiatus it was agreed that the Club’s contractors would demolish the existing Dome building and then rebuild the structure from scratch. Architects are well into the process of redesigning the Dome and planning documents for the new structure are set to be submitted within weeks.
This decision will require significant additional investment in the project than was initially anticipated, but it is felt this investment will guarantee that the state of the art facility meets the precise requirements of the Academy going forward.
The new Dome will seamlessly integrate into the main pavilion building and primarily act as an Academy hub, housing the Academy education centre, medical centre and gymnasium, along with a 3G indoor pitch.
Despite this dramatic new development to the site, there has been no impact to the progress of the rest of the project, with the outdoor 3G pitch one of many new facilities to have already been completed."

Just think - by next weekend there will be no Portsmouth Football Club. That must be absolutely awful for them. Worse than that, in fact. I mean, Portsea Island has little enough going for it at the best of times.I know it was only a bit of fun for them but if you take their little football club out of the equation then what is there left for them? Sorry for changing the subject, but has anyone read this about the new training complex on the OS?

Like Chelsea Celtic have been extremely lucky and if "parking the bus and hoofing the ball up to score goals makes you a top 16 club then on this basis you are a top 16 club.,
I think in beating Barcelona both Celtic and Chelsea had about 20% possession and to me this is indicative of how outplayed both teams were.
Celtic are the best team in Scotland but only just and we are talking about a league that would struggle against championship teams.

Seems as though the architect and or the structural design engineer made a big error.
The suspension of work on any large building project by two weeks, is a major disruption and invariably brings with it, significant financial claims for breach of contract.
Those responsible for the error must be breathing a sigh of relief that Saints Chairman is a nice kind of guy who wouldn't dream of suing them for damages.
Seems my views on over priced, over rated Gaston are shared by many.

PS We have a few more reserve players you can have. And an old bridge in London may be available........
Anyway, you can't come on here just because you want warmer weather, go on, be brave, trundle back to the snow and ice.

The last time they played in Portsmouth in the big league, they both died a death, hence the resentment.
I seem to remember Paul Merton not allowing SM to put the town into room 101 though.. You see - resentment, it just doesn't achieve anything.
Hi seed. Who are you planning to bond with?
I think we need to work on your style though.
What you clearly lack in quality you try and make up for with mass volume over-compensating mediocrity. That has to change, you must be exhausted and for what? Sadly the world is laughing at you and not with you.

Interesting and informative post from randre on Staplewood.
Well,as a friend of mine working for Solent Interiors said to me -- what goes around comes around!

Above all, he is a good footballer and getting better as he adapts to the Premiership. I think 12 million could be seen as a bargain if he keeps progressing.
I know our poor little Skunty friends (bless and care for them) would not agree, but 12 million for a player is not much of a gamble in the current Premier League climate. I know it would be enough money to give the Skunts a home and future, but for a player like Ramirez, it is not a lot of money at all (in my very humble opinion)!

Here is a tangential change of subject. Have you heard the rumours about your late MP from Eastleigh. Not joking here. I was given some inside information years ago which came from a high level Policeman. I clocked it, and almost forgot it
What with all the dodgy stuff in the papers lately, this story is now starting to run, and the story makes more sense.

There must be more information from your end of M27.

He has appointed a Director of Communications, Julius Duncan, sounds half Italian and half Scot, no doubt in part to my frequent critical posts that NC treats people like mushrooms -- kept in the dark and covered in sh*t.
If NC has the opportunity to sell Ramirez and JR in the January window he should seize it with both hands.
He probably won't get anything like the money he paid but can use whatever he gets, to sign a good goalkeeper and two or three seasoned pro's to build a team that will keep us in the PL.
Teams like Norwich, Stoke, WBA don't have prima donnas and may not be that exciting to watch but they grind out results week after week and that is what the Saints need to do to survive and establish themselves in the PL.
I'm encouraged by the news of Duncan's appointment, I hope he is his own man and doesn't have to get every item of communication approved by NC before it is released.
On Ramirez's flight to Argentina, I hope the family problem is not serious, but surely even if he does return in time for the Reading game he will not be match fit owing to jet lag and lack of training?

Interesting and informative post from randre on Staplewood.
Well,as a friend of mine working for Solent Interiors said to me -- what goes around comes around!

Just as well they play "AMATEUR" football at League 1 level then.........
Jeezz. Wonder what Saints are then..............
Apart from shortly to be relegated that is Mushie.......
UEFA have us listed as one of their best 16 teams........
Yup. Just about sums up your delusional state. And why you will never.. EVER.. be as successful as the mighty CELTIC.
Keep making us all laugh though eh .....?
To get a real value on how you are doing, perhaps you should check out UEFA's ratings on your league opposition then you may get some perspective!!

And here is one for all the academics on the SAINTS pompey debate.Fed up with all the verbal diatribe then how about wrapping your minds around this one.On a different thread yesterday it was mooted that the salvation and progress of both clubs would be best served if the 2 clubs UNITED.

DAVE BESANT,
IVAN GOLAC,JON GITTENS,MALCOLM WALDRON,MICK MILLS,
BARRY HORNE,NIGEL QUASHIE,ALAN MCLOUGHLIN,
MICK CHANNON,RON DAVIES,PETER CROUCH.
Playing 4-3-3- with fullbacks GOLAC and MILLS OVERLAPPING to provide the crosses for DAVIES and CROUCH to feed on.
ON the subs bench we could pick from BOBBY STOKES,PAUL GILCHRIST,IAN BAIRD,TREVOR HEBBERD,BRIAN HOWARD,HARRY PENK,GEORGE LAWRENCE and even ALF RAMSEY who was signed to pompey on amateur forms in the 1940s and MIKE WILLIAMSON bought by SAINTS from torquay for a 100,000 pounds and never played.later bought by Pompey from watford for a couple of million pounds and again never played-was back on the south coast a couple of weeks ago for the TOON.
ALAN BALL can manage the side with KEVIN BOND defence coach and JOE JORDAN forward coach.HARRY REDKNAPP can be bucket and sponge man with the added job of bringing on the club mascot ROSIE REDKNAPP to water the pitch.
WHAT A TEAM-Not only would they whop the current pompey side i think they would even give the current SAINTS side a good hiding.Cant see FONTE and YOSHIDA being able to cope with CHANNON,RON DAVIES or CROUCH in their pomp can you.

The DE should set up some sort of internet blockage system that immediately recognises and deletes such inane words as skate, poopey, stains, farton and all the other mindless crap.
This would leave the column open to the many experienced posters, like me, who wish to debate the real issues affecting Saints.
We may not always agree, strangely not many seem to agree with my views but that shouldn't stop healthy, sensible debate with the civilised option to agree to disagree.
Crude, offensive, abuse lowers the standing of this otherwise excellent column and the DE should implement control measures to stamp it out.
Those beyond civilised help should contribute to the Dandy, I understand that it is now available on line.

I suggested they get on a football forum in an attempt to make themselves feel a little better about their dire situation. It seems to work for a few.
Alas...they will still wake up a sorry bunch, much like their club will still be a sorry state.

Well I have had an interesting day off. The Stepford wife malfunction actually culminated at 3.44 with wife No2.
However, I am actually reconsidering whether subclone No2 is a actually really a 2nd subclone of No1.

And the big news is that the controller (Dr Know - from the Artificial Intelligence film - Seed brought that on himself - see above) won't be going saturday - so potential for a calming weekend unless Dr Know decides to up the rate before he goes away for the weekend.
The other thing is that he is using a daily countdown technique, which may result in him nicking their car keys next thursday - and is using the PFC salvation day as the cover story. A cunning strategy from Dr Know; but what else would you expect?

IMO anyone who makes or condones crude, lewd, offensive postings on here, either from Pompey or Saints must be beyond civilised help.
Only joking. Happy xmas to you too x

To that end the only time I attended SMS was when, on 3 occassions, I was given a ticket. Through out this time I followed the fortunes of my team without attending games Immediately after Lowe was ousted and the club went into administration I started attending and purchased a season ticket at the start of our first season in L1
If you dislike/hate or have a massive personal problem with NC then I suggest you take a course of action similar to mine

Is it the ire of what happened to your club and how it was let down by its own fans? Is it the angst brought on by the all-consuming void soon to engulf the part of your life where football used to be? Or is it the ire of knowing your children will grow up supporting Southampton?

Saintsayer II wrote:Spot on. I did the exact same thing along with my mates, old man and sons.
Mr Teboura let me tell you a little story
During our last season at the Dell I met Mr Lowe not once but twice in a social context I found the man to be so obnoxious that I vowed never to put a penny into that mans pocket
I've been a season ticket holder ever since the slimey toe rag f@cked off.
Fair play to you and countless other Saints fans who also did the same.

I have just watched the Adkins press conference on Saints Player GR will be back in the country to-morrow and he may be available for selection He has trained in Uraguay this week
He further added that GR is very happy and that the press misinterpreted his comments about wanting to play in the sunshine Who wouln't want to play in that weather He has along term contract
A lot of posters want the 14th to come around quickly For me its the 16th Flying to Moscow for treatment
Keep us posted...we're right behind you in spirit mate COYR

Sorry i think you club and players will let you down the dream is good but with the three crucial games coming up ramirez has disapeared and the pompey kids would not see a 12million rated player this weekend ! they would stay away.
