Former Southampton striker David Connolly signs for Portsmouth

David Connolly David Connolly

Former Saints striker David Connolly has signed a one-month deal with Pompey.

The 35-year-old had been without a club since being released from St Mary’s at the end of last season.

However, League One strugglers Pompey have completed a move for him, subject to Football League approval.

“This is an historic club with a great tradition,” said Connolly. “I’m very honoured to become a Portsmouth player.

“I had a couple of offers in August from clubs in the top half of the Championship, but nothing happened for a variety of reasons.

“But I’m delighted to be here now – I consider this a great club and I’m proud to have it on my CV.”

David Connolly is an excellent striker - no less than Adam Lallana said so - and he played an important part in back-to-back promotions for Saints. I'm happy to see him able to continue his football career.

Was great for us, now he's a dirty skate!

Good luck DC, you're going to need it down there. Top quality for us when he was 100% fit, unfortunately he was never fit enough for long enough. Doubt he'll get booed down there before he's kicked a ball unlike ex-skates do here like Crouch and Fuller etc.

I hope Saints fans are not negative about this move.
.
Connolly was a good player on his day for Saints, but has had injury problems.
.
Even at his age I thought that he would probably get a club in the Championship, and he should find the standard in League 1 fairly easy
.
I wish him well.

Ryan Dickson should also join him, he isn't doing anything at the moment, good luck DC hope it works out for you, certainly did your stuff for us while you were here and we are grateful. Hope the skates don't give him a bad time because of his past he doesn't deserve that.

O.K. Agent Connolly, now you have infiltrated the enemy remember pleny of hand balls in the box and a few O.G's should help us be rid of them forever.
p.s. well done on getting such a long contract, in fact one of the longest this season.
Over and soon to be out.

He didn't do much for Saints, being injured most of the time, so now he's older hopefully he'll do even less for the Skates, now in the relegation zone even before they get docked 10 points...

Keep up? They're booing the team at half and full time, not before anyone's kicked a ball, unlike some halfwits we have, or have you forgotten about booing Crouch, Fuller and others before they actually played for us? Our lot boo Guly before he comes on and he's not even an ex-skate!

Such a shame for a great player to have to resort to this. My deepest sympathy to DC on the passing of his self respect.

Of course you are gonna wish him luck. Spose he's had a far better career than you have had Darren Kenton

Can't blame anyone for taking another paycheck. Hope his agent has asked for payment one month in advance cos the 15th is looming large. So that's 4 weeks pay due. Wonder what he's gonna spend the 4 hundred quid on?

Add to that the fact that when the team most needed support, most of the fans left the stadium when they were beating us 4 - 1.

At least their fans did not leave at half-time, and were there to cheer them off at the final whistle, even though they lost.

Go & support the Skunts then if you think they're that lovely.

Booed off at half-time by the few remaining fans - yeah, great support.

We averaged more than 20,000 in League 1, not 12,000.

A club's support shows itself at its best when times are rough. We stepped up to the plate, whereas The Blue Few are exactly that, & disloyal.

COYR!

whatever.

this is a sideshow story and not really worthy of our passion.

I wish the lad well in what he does, however I am more interested in the Premier League than the clown car sideshow down the road.

Take the game to them today Saints!

It must be undignified for anyone to become so desperate to the point where they sign a monthly deal with a club heading for League 2 and/or liquidation. He's 35 and at the end of his career so I guess he's at the right club.
