Saints fans still backing Nigel Adkins

NIGEL ADKINS NIGEL ADKINS

Nigel Adkins has again received the support of the Saints fans despite fresh reports suggesting the club are reviewing his position.

Roberto Di Matteo, who has been regularly linked with the manager’s post following his departure from Chelsea earlier this season, is said to be one of two names being lined up for the job by St Mary’s chairman Nicola Cortese, should Adkins be sacked.

The other is former Spurs manager Christian Gross, who is currently out of work after being sacked by Swiss side Young Boys in April last year.

Adkins came within a whisker of the sack in early November, following a 2-0 loss to West Brom that left Saints rooted to the bottom of the table.

But he has since overseen an impressive upturn in form, leading the club out of the relegation zone ahead of tomorrow’s crunch visit to fellow strugglers Aston Villa.

Throughout the season, he has retained the backing of the overwhelming majority of Saints supporters, with chants of “There’s only one Nigel Adkins” regularly belted out home and away.

Nick Illingsworth, who runs fans’ website theuglyinside.net, reaffirmed that support in light of the latest rumours.

He said: “I haven’t found many Saints fans who would want to see Nigel sacked.

“All the supporters are grateful for the work he has done over the last few years and, given that, he deserves his chance.

“Having dragged us out of the bottom three after a baptism of fire at the start of the season, he’s shown he has got the nous to steer us clear of relegation if we can make some crucial signings.”

Di Matteo is a good friend of NC and suggested this club would be worth looking at for an acquisition which he did and is why we are now here. ... However, Di Matteo in my opinion lacks real experience and I think would struggle with what we have for here quality wise. He was good with Chelsea but look at what he had at his disposal. Not sure this would be a step forward if it happened ..

There will always be speculation, as far as the management is concerned, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Two clever signings and all will be on the road again, but there is not a lot of time in this window, the sooner the better.

been a learning curve for them all. Nige will have picked up a lot and, if allowed to continue I believe will be all the better for it.
I am concerned as to how hands on he is with regard to transfers - and his possitivity, "fantastc point" can be a bit annoying but i cant see anyone ese better for the job.
Just need to tighten up at the back - 19 points given away from winning positions is not good enough especially againts clubs that you must hope to beat.

Stick with Nige. He's doing ok with a central defence that wasn't strengthened when it should have been. It's pretty clear that NC does the deals and for one reason or another it didn't happen. Nige has a record second to none for getting promotions and if the worst were to happen there is no one better qualified to get us back to our rightful position in the Prem.

Was I impressed when NIgel joined us after Pards? No. Has Nigel got it all right this season? Off course not. Do I agree with everything he has done.. especially some of the substitions? NO. Am I sure about the buys he has made? NO

No to all the above... but.. I think his man has the potential to be one of the great managers. We play great football. We are united as a club again.

And this may be heresey but even if the worse happened and we dont stay up the lessons learned this year will be invaluable for the future.

Look what happened to West Brom. It took them a few years up and down. But see what they are doing now.

Stick with Nigel. Lets see the project through.

Take the long view and for the sake of another cliche... look at the big picture.

Lets stick together and remember what it was like only a few years ago. Managers in and out. The Dark Lord in charge.

Villa tomorrow. Another away day sell out.

You're not wrong. What happened in November is that Nigel and Nicola had a constructive meeting to discuss ways to improve things. The result was a change in routine and funds released for a two-day stay at a top hotel. Results improved as a result.

Nicola rates Nigel highly and has backed him at every step - not in the media but where it matters.

Now, enough of such nonsense. Who's off to Villa? I have some very distressing news about Birmingham: the best restaurant in Britain, Mr Egg, has sadly closed down.

I have no idea what the pecking order is in the Transfer system at St.Marys, I understood that it was done by a Committee, but can only speculate. Presumably Nigel decides where we need players to address a shortfall in any particular position, it is submitted to whoever is in charge of scouting, once targets are worked out, it would be put into the hands of NC and co. to negotiate a sensible deal and then to rubber stamp the purchases, but I assume that all of the Committee would working together and I am sure that NA would have a strong influence on the end result. Conspiracy theorists would have you believe that NC picks the players, I can't see that, as he has no expertise in the subject, but still has the final word whatever happens.

The DE has reached a new low in cheap journalism. Quoting speculation churned out in various trashy tabloids in an attempt to put pressure on and undermine the club shows the local press has no interest whatsoever in supporting SFC .

Events over the past couple of years have shown that journalist will do anything to produce a headline; clearly the team at the DE have some sort of agenda against our club. What they can’t stand is the way the regular supporters continually give Nigel Adkins 100% support despite the venomous rubbish regularly spewed out by this ailing local rag.

All this started because we got hammered by chelsea. No lambert, Ramirez, Llana, Clyne. Cork played out of position etc etc. The score was a bit of a bummer but the loss expected.
The thing is we have to be prepared for Villa, they don't often turn up but when they do they can be awesome. Liverpool's next home game after they beat us reasonably comfortable was Villa and they put 4 past Liverpool.
Their tails will be up after getting humiliated by Bradford and we have to be prepared to fight it out. We cannot afford to let them get ahead, if we can score first I think we can win.
Fonte will be missed I am afraid. Al ot will depend on Hoover on the deck and how we close Benteke down. He can be a handful when he is up for it.
But it is do able.

I dont want to be Anti-Adkins as he is a good man who has done a fantastic job, his enthusiasm and character is infectious, but i do feel he has made some huge tactical errors this season. Ignoring the cup as it would of been a club decision not to 'give it a go' last sat. The latest tactical issue occured at Stoke when winning and having the opposition down to 10 men, Nige takes off any width we have and went 5 at the back inviting pressure, when the done thing is to normally keep the ball and make the pitch as big as possible for the oppo, in the same game he also only used 2 subs with SRL and Jay Rod both run into the ground and a game in desperate need of pace! This added to flaws in summer transfer window and further tactical errors against Utd & Wigan and ongoing goalkeeper farse, I would love nothing more than Nige to lead us forward into NC's vision, but could Adkins be out of his depth?

I'd prefer Di Matteo to Nigel if i'm honest! Nigel is older than Di Matteo but simply hasn't got the experience the Italian would bring. He's won big trophies as a player and as a manager, he's played with some of the best players and also managed them. Nigel is no where near the same calibre as Di Matteo. That's nothing against Nigel because he's done the best he can, he's been great. But now we need better! And if Mourinho, Ferguson, Mancini or Guardiola aren't available than I reckon Di Matteo's a great shout. And he wouldn't command millions of pounds a year!

If, like anything, he's within our budget then it would be a travesty if we didn't take the opportunity to get him and improve our club even more. The ultimate aim is to win.

I think Nigel Adkins has been badly let down by the recent signings in the transfer market. With the exception of Nathaniel Clyne, i think we've spent shed loads of money....and got sod all in return. GR. Saints fans can chant his name all they want, but for £12M; i was expecting a good deal better than this. if he wants a move back to Milan, I,ll drive him to the airport. JR. Another £6M down the toilet, TL. SdR. JH....none of them Premier League. All our best players Lallana, Lambert, Schneiderlin, Shaw, Puncheon, Cork ect have been with us long before we signed all this other tat; and i haven't even got round to our two new quality goalkeepers.....I think Nigel Adkins has done wonders for us since he took over and he deserves a FULL season as manger. I'll be at the Bridge on Wed, will be hoping for a point and praying at least to escape a hammering. Must win game to Villa, if we get a lead we must hold out ....wer'e running out of points to throw away ...

Nigel is not in charge of transfers. Sid Littles interview made that perfectly clear. I'm sure they consult him but it certainly isn't his say.
You're absolutely right and I've been saying this for some time NA has no say whatsoever in transfers NC in any event isn't talking to him! Its wrong for fans to keep asking NA where the signings are - he doesn't have a clue because he's not consulted. is this a way to runa football team? I think not.
What a load of old tosh Saintly, how do you know that NC & NA arent talking? And do you really believe that NA has no say what so ever on transfer targets? Never heard so much cr@p! We are a Premiership football team, run as a professional organisation, we have a scouting network across the world so of course NA doesnt go to games across the world thats what we have scouts for, players are identified by the scouting network, potential targets are identified, watched, then team SAINTS, NC/LR/NA and all the other coaches decide if that particular player fit the bill, age, attitude, past history, fitness ect, ect, then if any deal is to be done NC does the business, that is how every Premiership football club is run, professionally!
dont let the truth and facts get in the way of saintlys dislike of NC its becoming a bit of an obsession. reminds me of another poster who used to say carp about NC on here, havent seen theboorer for a while though.

Agree with this. May of us demanded that Nigel should adapt or go. He adapted. If he keeps getting the "must wins" like villa away, he should be safe enough.

I also agree that di Matteo would likely struggle here. No blockbuster trades (not like he is used to), plus he is Chelsea through and through -- he wouldn't bring the same passion to saints that he did to Chelsea.

were not the only ones with injury problems,

Here's some Aston Villa team news from BBC Sport's Pat Murphy:

"Paul Lambert says Darren Bent's knee injury is not as bad as first feared after the Bradford match - but he won't be fit for tomorrow's match against Southampton. Nor will Marc Albrighton or Chris Herd (both foot injuries).

"Shay Given is struggling with a hamstring strain but Brad Guzan will return. Ron Vlaar is back in training (calf) after missing the last six months with a calf injury but will miss out tomorrow. Richard Dunne expects to resume training next week after a groin operation and could be available at end of January."

What a load of cr-p. Of course they are talking . If they wern't NA would be long gone. This whole setup is the vision of NC. He persuaded Marcus to buy the club and he has a vision to take it all the way. Nobody is going to get in his way and there is only ever going to be one winner in any conflict. The fact is both are great for the Saints and long may it continue.
Think you have hit the nail on the head, i can not see Nigel as a yes man. Remember his stance when we were trying to get him from Scunny ??. I believe he is his own man and do have an input to who comes through the front door but, all the the talking to close any deals is solely done by Nicola. This is the reason we hear nothing about transfers while other clubs seem to be buying up all the best players. This will never change so get use to it. We do need players and we need them in now but Christmas has gone but our chances of staying in the premiership have not.

For me NIGEL is the man to take our club forward. We had a five year plan to get where we are and we done it early. So dont expect to win this league in the spare time that Nigel has created, we hav'nt heard the next plan or time scale of when we will be at the other end of the table.

Between 2004 and 2010 our club was in a spiral of decline under very poor directorship and minimal investment. During this period, on no less than eleven occasions salvation was sought by getting rid of the manager.

Since September 2010, under wise control and with substantial infrastructure and squad investment and under one manager, we've enjoyed a spiral of success.

Supporters are behind Nicola and Nigel for very obvious reasons.

Markus planted an excellent seed in well prepared soil and a strong tree is growing. Those who want heads to roll are rather like those impatient gardeners who keep pulling up the plant to see if the roots are growing.

They should throw in the trowel.

I was made aware that NC did consider whether it was best to look for a new manager but decided he had a good team and evolving the team he had was better than going back to square one with new coaches, new tactcics, different players etc etc.

I think there is still a question mark over Atkins at this level but to me there would be bigger questions matks over the new two names mentioned in this thread.

Its a tough call for Cortese to make either way, as the objective is to stay up. and is that best achieved via stability or chchange.

I think it's definitely him. The pics also show Clyne's in full training which means he'll start against Villa which means Cork can get back to doing what he does best which is sitting in front of the back four which means Jos will have more protection than he did at the start of the season which means we shouldn't miss Jose too much which means our defence should be miserly which means a couple of goals will almost certainly be enough for the three points.

Pools forecast: away win. Happy days.

We are now in a grinding position where we have to fight for our very survival, of which is not new to us, we have been the "Great Escapers" in this league many times before.
If all the responsibilities for "Hire and Fire" have been in the sole hands of the manager then we should be looking for another A.S.A.P and more cash to be spent before is it to late?

But how else can one insinuate that one is connected and mixes with the Zeitgeist facilitators? If one is not permitted to alludiate that one sits down with those that have huge testicles then it might render ones observations somewhat lesser in the eyes of a typically interspazz viewer. Nigel is not in charge of transfers. Sid Littles interview made that perfectly clear. I'm sure they consult him but it certainly isn't his say.
You're absolutely right and I've been saying this for some time NA has no say whatsoever in transfers NC in any event isn't talking to him!

Sacking Nigel Adkins would be ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

Even if you think he's not done a good job (I think he's done very well and is on target to achieve what he would have been asked to do) now would be totally the wrong time. We are on the up.

You only have to look at clubs who have stupidly replaced managers who were doing a good job to see that it simply does not work if you are banking on quick results.

Blackburn, Forest and Chelsea have all just managed to either create a bad atmosphere from disgruntled fans or have absolutely zero impact.

The only benefit of sacking a manager mid-season is the initial surge it can bring in optimism and spirit.

Sacking Nigel would create the opposite.

Of course the interesting thing would be (as happened with Pardew) that most people on here supporting Nigel to the hilt today would likely resort to the 'in NC we trust' response if anyone questioned the decision to sack him.

Whether the decision kept us up or not, I'm more of the opinion that the life-blood and soul of a club is about doing the right thing.

That is why sacking Nigel couldn't be justified in my eyes, apart from the fact that it doesn't make sense from a footballing perspective.

Nigel and the team have turned things round in recent games. The team believe in Nigel...now is not the time to wobble. If a team are unhappy and lost, a new manager can sometimes turn things round, but Saints are not playing like a team in disarray. They have improved in defence which has increased confidence.

Fonte is a loss, but time for Jos to step up. COYR

Our Nigel is staying, what a job he has done.

Also, with all this about transfers, I believe this club is run like most and Nigel himself said something along the lines that he gives the chairman a list of players he has identified, a list is also submitted from the scouting staff etc. They then collectively identify who are possible signings and who are not. Then it is down to NC and his recruitment team to make the enquiries and deal with the finances and contracts. I don't think this varies a lot across the football world.

There is disquiet in the camp. Yes chairman and manager aren't talking, Kelvin been treated badly by NA, this has rubbed off on other players resulting in the majority of players wishing NA would leave and can't wait to see the back of him. The captain is injured and won't be back until late February / March, Fonte who replaced Lallana as captain is injured and out for 6 weeks. Who will be captain now? Not Davis as he won't play so who will lead the team? There is no leader! No new signings. None likely. Defence now weakened and NA who is under enormous pressure to win causing him to make what are frantic substitutions.

Now stand back and imagine you're a player in that ethos will all that going on around you. Disharmony, unhappiness and despair but you're asked to honour and perform for 90 minutes and win a game. It's asking a lot isn't it? No, I think it's asking the impossible.

Until this mess is sorted and it needs to be sorted by the chairman as the captain of the ship it wont go away. It will get worse and the result? Bye bye Premier League!!!!

Saintly, I'd be happy to discuss these issues further with you if you furnish some evidence to support them. You may think people here are burying their heads in the sand but until you prove these things they are not worth discussing, they are merely hearsay from you, just like Rafa becoming our manager a short while ago, so put up or ....

That's pretty much all rubbish, sorry. I can't see any signs of disharmony or uncertainty or anything for the players to use as an excuse.

I think you could say that at Villa, but this is still a tight unit based around players who have been together through thick and thin.

I don't think anyone who has been dropped can honestly look at their replacements and say they are better.

Remarkably, we seem to have a complete set of players without one trying to rock the boat.

Nigel doesn't strike me as someone the players would fear, but have you ever seen Lambert or Ramirez shaking their heads and throwing a strop when they get substituted? They'd have more right to than the likes of Balotelli, but they don't.

That's because they respect the guy and buy into the idea of the squad system and know he is doing the best he can.

I don't even see him being under any pressure. If we were 8 points adrift maybe or at a club like Villa when you have Bent, Given and Nzogbia on the bench, maybe, but not when you have the backing of the fans.

The only thing that potentially undermines Nigel's position, if true, is not having full control of transfers. And that is the only area we've struggled on this season.

Likewise I agree with Milton Road about the Pompey fans.

In my opinion it is a far easier to win a cup (an easy cup run really helps) in comparison to staying in the top flight for 27 years.

I would far prefer to have a successful league season than a cup run.

If Pompey think they are a bigger club the easiest way to compare is by looking at our attendances when we were in League 1 to that of the attendances Portsmuff are currently getting at Notarf krap...... No more needs to be said!

When all is said and done one must have a certain sympathy with fans of the blue shirted cub.Think kindly on those who go to their away matches, firstly they invariably get beaten which must be disappointing, but what is absolutley soul destroying is they then have to go back to Portsmouth.

five trophies I am so disappointed with this post.

surely you can do better than this?

or is it that you have finally realised that you have nothing to say?

your last few posts on this thread have been bizarre and clearly demonstrate a lost argument (or a very very poor attempt at winding people up)
Mind you, maybe its that your frustration is showing through and you are just lashing out in anger because Saints are in the Premier League, playing great football and so continuing their proud history in the top flight of football. Your club, in comparison, well its not really even a club any more is it. Just a bust entity, taking up a league position that it doesn't deserve. An administrator who is clearly milking every last penny he can get out of it all and a Trust who don't have the money to make it even a going concern. Not only that, you still don't know what the judge is going to say and the situation gets worse every day - don't even have a training ground anymore.
Oh but apparently they are going to keep the academy going because 'that is integral to the future'. I heard that the Trust want to make it like our Academy (bet that hurts, to admit that you want to be like us)
I wonder. When there's no money in the pot, no future, no ground and no possible way of surviving.... what's the point of trying to save the academy when it's not even that good?

Anyway, you keep bleating about your history, we'll keep looking to that lovely bright red and white future.

In their short time together, NA and NC have presided over more success than Saints have had in donkey's years.
Winning promotion is a great achivement in itself, winning two on the trot is outstanding!
Never-the -less, this season, the pair have had a rude awakening, they have discovered that the Premier League is the toughest and certainly the fastest in the World.
NA has had to adapt quickly and under pressure and he has done a good job with limited resources.
How can people criticise him, when many of Saints opponents, have on their substitutes' bench, players with combined transfer fees, three or four times the value of the entire Saints squad!
I don't believe the claims of some posters that NA doesn't have any say in who Saints buy and sell, no man with any pride and guts, would accept that.
Hopefully NA's and NC's experiences in the first half of the season, have opened their eyes to the quality of player they need to sign this January,
The signings made last summer were, IMO a waste of a golden opportunity and money.
Saints future in the PL and NA's at the Club, will depend on who Saints buy and sell during the next few weeks, let's hope for all our sakes they choose wisely.
For NA to state he's not interested in signing a goalkeeper, is hopefully a ploy on his part to confuse other clubs and agents, if it is his genuine belief, then he is signing his own and Saints' death warrant.

Yet another prediction! What will you do if you're wrong again this time?

And so they face the final curtain
Chainrai, he'll say it clear
He'll state his case, of which he’s certain
He’s lived a life that's full
He’s travelled each and every highway
And more, much more than this, he’ll do it his way

Fans, they had a Few
But then again, too Few to mention
They did not do, what they had to do, without exemption
He planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, they did it his way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When they bit off more than they could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
He ate it up and spat it out
He faced it all and he stood tall and did it his way

We loved, we laughed and cried
We had our fill, at their losing
And now, as tears subside, we find it all so amusing
To think they did all that
And may we say, not in a sly way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not us, they did it his way"

For what is a skunt, what has he got?
If not a club, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels are now the words of one who kneels
The record shows they took the blows and did it his way!

Yes, it was his way

There is disquiet in the camp. Yes chairman and manager aren't talking, Kelvin been treated badly by NA, this has rubbed off on other players resulting in the majority of players wishing NA would leave and can't wait to see the back of him. Not Davis as he won't play so who will lead the team? There is no leader! No new signings. None likely. five trophies I am so disappointed with this post. surely you can do better than this? or is it that you have finally realised that you have nothing to say? your last few posts on this thread have been bizarre and clearly demonstrate a lost argument (or a very very poor attempt at winding people up) Mind you, maybe its that your frustration is showing through and you are just lashing out in anger because Saints are in the Premier League, playing great football and so continuing their proud history in the top flight of football. I heard that the Trust want to make it like our Academy (bet that hurts, to admit that you want to be like us) I wonder. When there's no money in the pot, no future, no ground and no possible way of surviving.... what's the point of trying to save the academy when it's not even that good? Anyway, you keep bleating about your history, we'll keep looking to that lovely bright red and white future.

By Monday morning Roberto De Matteo will be in place and later in the week a couple of major signings will be announced. Meanwhile NA will be appointed manager of Blackpool. Paddy Power have Michael Appleton down as 2/1 to have accumulated more clubs than you have points by the end of the season. I'm getting some money on.
Done deal, wonder if he'll be in the stands at Molineux?

Personally, I quite like him - he must have a temperament of steel to have stayed at Pompey as long as he did

As I near the end of my life it is a time of reflection and to ask some questions. I would like to share one such question with you all, by firstly telling you a tale.

I grew up in a fairly poor area and had a fairly tough upbringing. I made friends with a boy of similar age who lived about 20 miles away but came from a similar background and we have remained in touch throughout our lives. Just before the war, when most of the country were concentrating on bigger issues, I was awarded a certificate which I have kept in a frame and has remained my proudest achievement. In the1970s my friend was awarded the same certificate, so that in terms of qualifications we were equals. But while he thrived and made progress in his life, both financially and socially, I am ashamed to say I fell off the rails, ran in to financial difficulties and resorted to crime and misguided deals to try and survive. My friend on the other hand enjoyed regular holidays to Europe and always set aside provision for his family to have a proper future. Several of his offspring went on to achieve international success. I travelled little, apart from a couple of embezzled trips to Europe in the 00s, and made no provision for the future of my family, never considering it important.
I am now homeless, living rough, but still have in my big bag the framed certificate plus another that I stole to make me feel better. I have very few friends left, although those that are can be vociferous in their support for me, and am generally despised by society.

My friend lives a comfortable existence, despite only having one certificate. He has loads of friends and family, is respected in society and his grandchildren have a promising and secure future. I am very jealous of him.

My question is - which of us is the bigger man ?

Thank you for your patience

Talking of towers. I see your council will be making their own architectural statement soon. To be seen visibly from the M27. Wow.

A HUGE dome containing 30,000 tonnes of salt is to be built in the Hampshire countryside to help keep the roads safe during icy weather.

The massive structure – more than 70ft tall and almost 140ft wide – will occupy part of a Highways Agency site next to the M27 at Ower.

The dome will be visible from miles around and critics claim it will be a blot on the landscape.

Come on Southampton city council, you can do better than that. I know you like our tower, but if you are going to try to make a kind of copy, at least make it a bit bigger. Maybe then, people would even take it in as part of the tourist circuit.

I think you are being far too humble, and you could even talk about all those post war certificates. People like hearing about success. At least you could write a book about your life.

I heard your friend got into trouble, and was bailed out by the authorities and they gave him an almost free house - what a lucky chap.

Apparently he now has a rich benefactor who has been generous with his wallet - but I wouldn't necessarily trust him, as he looks a bit dodgy - and you can't always trust these business people can you?

I think you are the bigger man for being so honest about it, and I think that will win you lots more friends when they fully realise the truth.

I've also heard your friend hasn't been telling people about his free house - how unsporting; especially as he has been talking about you behind your back. Still - that's envy for you.

You stated that

"I don't believe the claims of some posters that NA doesn't have any say in who Saints buy and sell, no man with any pride and guts, would accept that,"

so If todays Daily Mirror is to be believed Alan Pardew is quoted as saying "He hopes Newcastle can delver two new players in the January window while making clear he sticks to coaching duties not striking deals.
But he says managing director Derek Llambias and chief scout Graham Carr are being as aggressive as any rivals in pursuing targets

I believe that answers a good few questions being asked on here don't you think?

American bison (buffalo) tend to graze more, and browse less than their European cousins, and thus have a different anatomy including having shorter legs and keep their heads lower. The European Bison are therefore a bit loftier. The American buffalo is a bit sad about this, and therefore like to tell everyone that they are just bigger and better. However the bison is better adapted to fighting whereas the buffalo is easier to tame. The European bison also has much more history about it, and as such there are more stories to tell about the European Bison. From memory the European bison still exists in four or five countries today, whilst the Buffalo is only seen in one.

The spelling mostly. The American Buffalo is the Bison, the African / Cape Buffalo a totally different animal altogether, as is the Water Buffalo. Did you know Buffalo Bill Cody is reputed to have killed 4,280 of the species? However the Birmingham Bison is spelt basin. No idea how they spell Buffalo. You can however get a cheap flight from Birmingham to Buffalo from just over £500, why you would want to, is beyond me..

You can't make custard in a buffalo!
You can't wash your hands in a Buffalo
You can't make the anagram 'O! A bluff!' out of bison. Grief! This waiting for Messi to role into town and sign up is really dragging on, isn't it?
American bison (buffalo) tend to graze more, and browse less than their European cousins, and thus have a different anatomy including having shorter legs and keep their heads lower. The European Bison are therefore a bit loftier. The American buffalo is a bit sad about this, and therefore like to tell everyone that they are just bigger and better. However the bison is better adapted to fighting whereas the buffalo is easier to tame. The European bison also has much more history about it, and as such there are more stories to tell about the European Bison. From memory the European bison still exists in four or five countries today, whilst the Buffalo is only seen in one.

I agree with your comments. Providing we stay up this season i believe we will go onto bigger and better things. At present we do not have enough quality in the squad to compete at this level, therefore it is vital that we strengthen and do so quickly.
How I wish for the mediocrity of mid table.

Staying up..every game a potential decider only way...

As posted before, with some experiance and our style of play (when we do not panic) premiership next year will be a **** site easier to survive in than trying for promotion, particularly when we do not have last year's 'suprise' element.

You can debate team selection all day but subject to injury most of the team picks itself. The one position that is a nightmare is keeper. Nigel is critised on here over that but at the same time we all variously come down in reasonably equal amounts with all 3 of them proving the impossibility of the choice!

That's awfully kind of you, but I have seldom gone in for team selection, as I have no ITK gen, and you need to know a lot more to be any good at it. Opinions are OK but are worth diddly squat. I agree with the GK conundrum, we should back whoever is chosen, have to opt for Boruc, I am sure he will improve in time. As will Gazza, but he will need a bit longer, KD is getting a bit long in the tooth, but what a servant he has been.

well I leave it for a few hours and look what happens.
Once again 5 trophies, you really really disappoint me.
clearly my post must have touched a nerve since you couldn't respond to it. Instead you chose to make some inane comment about 'wanting to win' (I confess I didn't give it much attention - it wasn't worth it)
But ok, lets think about 'wanting to win'
you seemed to think that this is not a good thing to want. Strange. you are a football fan so wanting to win should be something you are very familiar with - especially this season since wins for your team are.... rare.....
So I need clarification really - are you saying that wanting to win is wrong somehow? that it lacks ambition?
but surely this is the very bedrock of what being a fan is about? wanting your team to win?
I want Saints to win - of course I do. I've supported them since my Grandad used to take me to the Milton Rd end of the Dell. (i had to stand on a stool to see! great days, shame its not like that any more)
And all through the '80's and '90's I supported my team and do you know? I always wanted them to win (how weird is that?!)
But it didn't matter if they lost a match because there was always next week or next season. And we stayed up there. for a long long time. And it was great. And when my friends who sometimes supported other clubs questioned me about my team and asked why we hadn't won anything I would always respond by mentioning that, perhaps, our continued existence in the top flight was winning in itself. That winning trophies is a nice thing, but it does not relate to success. Or at least not permanent or long term success. Because , you see, it's easy to win a trophy. It's far harder to stay at the top for any period of time.

So... I'm sure you would agree Mr Trophy person, wanting to win isn't actually that bad an ambition - its what we all want for our clubs.
However you choose to come here and make silly comments and attempt to get a rise out of it, clearly for your own personal amusement. I'm fine with that although some would say that gaining this kind of enjoyment makes you a lesser person.
But when you are met with reasoned argument (or the hard horrible truth) you clearly cannot handle it. You avoid the question, you avoid the truth. And that my fishy little friend shows you up.

shame really, but then what else is left when you have no club to speak of?

You can't make custard in a buffalo!

Well once again silly Kunt you prove that there is a level below stupid...

There is no way you would ever make such remarks if you thought you would get caught...hence why you will not tell us were you live, or drink...chicken, coward, wànker...indeed all apply to you..

When I next come over I will tell you exactly were I am and you will bottle it.

I'd have Boruc in there. I don't have a problem with him and game by game he's very definitely settling. I speak as one who thought he was AWFUL after his first two games but I reckon he'll be fine tomorrow and then onwards.
He was very shakey against Arsenal but was rightly given a further chance in the cup. He didn't take it, mishandling and not making any notable saves despite lots of opportunities!

I wouldn't see a mistake by any player as the managers' fault ....... a mistake is just that , no amount of training can eliminate it . the trick i suppose is picking the player least likely to make a mistake whilst being confident he'll be brilliant as well ...... like i said .... glad it's not my decision .

I remember one of the managers (can't remember which one as we used to change them like the skunts change their players) telling me that some players can be outstanding in training but freeze in a match and others can be mediocre in training but lift their game on match day. I suppose it depends on how much you like to perform in front of a big crowd. If we've got some that are nervous of big crowds we could lend them to poopey.

From memory the European bison still exists in four or five countries today, whilst the Buffalo is only seen in one.
what a load a bullocks....
Doesn't explain why the put cowbells on the cattle in Switzerland, can't be that their horns don't work.
Never heard that one before I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even worse why would anyone go to Birmingham from Buffalo..they would think they are in Portsmouth.
Ref 8.54 post as well: Buffalo Bill. His last public appearance was at Portsmouth just two months before his death. Wow - that man had taste
....did he die due to the fumes he inhaled there? ;O)
The good taste was dying, no.one would willingly live there ..although pigs do wallow in their own filth.
Pigs are really very clean when you look at it in detail. A bit like our fans. Oh and very intelligent; much more than say Ponys
Maddest thing you've ever said ....... we all know it isn't true though .
as mad as you agreeing with me that you'd like Villa to win 7-6 perhaps
LOL ..... i was only agreeing with a Rickie double hat-trick ........ 4-8 saints !

We are allowed to say what we want whereas NA has to be upbeat - no matter how moronic it makes him look.

Whoever is repsonsible for our transfer policy - and that does not seem to be NA - is the one that needs to lose their job. I don't think for one second that NA is blind to the faults that all, but poor deluded happy clappers, can see.

A more experienced manager is unlikley to have have the same "diplomatic" qualities as NA and that is likely to lead to conflict and mean that we would quite quickly be looking for another. NA may not be the best manager but he has proved to be the best man for the job as it stands at Saints.

another `i can see it why cant others` know it all having a go at fans for supporting our team! why is it that just because we support the chairman the manager and the players, and disagree with people who post carp about the team etc, how many times have we all read some nomark say how he has inside info and knows the intricate workings of the club and even what NA or NC are thinking?

I can't see Adkins getting chopped with just half a transfer window left.

Unless we plan to bring in more of a coach than a proper manager.

If so we'd be doomed, guy Whittington style.

That is a good post....Well done

Far go! I Respect your right to comment as you see fit and you are lucky to be able to follow them every week as I can only follow on the box or these threads as I live in Australia. I do however get depressed with all the doom mongers on here who call for NA's head as soon as we hit a slippery patch, I have been following the Saints since 1969 and have endured all the ups & downs & the frustrating Saints habit of winning a lot of the games that they are slated to not have a chance & then going down to teams who should be a walkover! (usually from in front in the last minute or 2).Yes I agree that NA has made some glaring tactical errors but as various other posters have pointed out he is learning as are the rest of the team and for me I am just over the moon to be where we are now from where we were a few short years ago! Apologies for inferring that a true Saints supporter may have been from the "wrong end of the M27.

he wont be .you remember all the skunts on here at the end of last season saying we wont make the top 2 or lose in the playoffs .the comments from tebeourba are only what you expect from portsmouth fans .none came on here when we were in league one just bha fans ,and they did not in the championship only near the derby days december and april .and later as we stayed in the top 2 all season .they come on here in numbers now .because were in the premier league now .and they just dont like that.and whats going on with there club, there is nothing for them anymore so there just spending there time on here ,some with various logins .as the end comes near you can feel there desperation ,as the fear of disapearing away while there close rivals is .allowed to do with its own means which they just could not afford .what sad blew few ,and the few is getting fewer all the time .even some go to stmarys .more will, later once it folds ,not long now

Fortunately football welcomes all kinds of fans but a forum does demand some cerebral facility beyond the myopic otherwise it would be very boring. Obviously no one knows what anyone is thinking but actions speak louder than words and opinions can be formed based on events. If you are saying that NA is responsible for the transfers then simply he should go now. However I cant see how any football manager would have wanted to take the bulk of our "back five" from last season into the Premiership. This is not hindsight. It was obvious to many others who may also be termed no-marks (what does that actually mean?) back in August. I don’t think for one minute NA is so stupid as not to have noticed these shortcomings. Perhaps some intended transfers did not work out but that is another matter?
