Andrew Surman’s wait to face his former club is set to continue after the Norwich player was ruled out of this Saturday’s match against Saints through a knee injury.
Surman is yet to face his old side following his departure from St Mary’s in 2009, having missed the clash between the teams earlier in the season, writes TOM SMITH.
The left-footed midfielder has struggled to cement a place in Chris Hughton’s Norwich team this term.
Surman, 26, has made only seven appearances for the Canaries in the club’s current campaign, with a persistent knee injury limiting his chances.
He has played in just four Premier League matches this season, the last of which was the 5-2 home defeat against Liverpool at the end of September.
Surman has not featured at all since starting in Norwich’s humiliating home defeat to non-league Luton Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup in late January.
But, while struggling to make an impact in East Anglia this year, he has caught the eye of the South Africa national team.
Born in Johannesburg, Surman is eligible to play for the international side and was approached by his country last summer.
Although he declined the offer of featuring for Bafana Bafana, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of playing for them in the future.
Saints Academy graduate Surman made more than 146 appearances during his time at St Mary’s, before making a £1.2m switch to Wolves in 2009. He lasted just one year at Molineux, and was signed by Norwich in 2010.
