Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Artur Boruc will be fit to play for Saints against Manchester United tomorrow despite confusion over whether or not he has suffered a hamstring injury.

The Polish international was left out of the side to face England at Wembley with what the team’s physio was quoted as saying was a hamstring injury.

Boruc himself also posted a photo online of his right leg in what appeared to be a protective cast.

However, Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino insisted the man who has only conceded two goals in seven Premier League games this season was completely fine.

“He is OK,” said the Saints boss.

“Artur is OK. There is some news that has come out that is not true regarding his fitness.

“He has been training well and we are hoping he is going to be perfect for Saturday’s game.”

He added: “I haven’t seen that writing, piece in the press or that photo.

“Our medical services have looked at Artur Boruc and he’s fine and he’s been training fine so I’m very much surprised about this news.”

Pochettino also reported that Luke Shaw would be available for the game after he dropped out of the England under-21 squad and that the rest of his international stars had returned unscathed.

“The last few days he has been training well,” he said of Shaw. “He has been OK.

“We hope that he is going to be perfect and physically fit for the game against Manchester United.”

Saints are hoping to make it four league wins on the spin with victory at Old Trafford and go into the match in fourth place, five spots and four points ahead of the champions.

A result would surely lay down a clear marker for the rest of the division and Pochettino said: “It’s clear that Manchester United are a great side.

“They have shown in the last few years that they are one of the best sides in Europe.

“It’s a game we are looking forward to playing and it’s going to be a very difficult test for us.

“One thing is to be confident, another is to be complacent.

“We have to be confident but not complacent and work very hard to get something out of this game.

“It’s clear that we have won three. Teams are already looking at us in a different manner and respecting us a little bit more.”
