Saints duo James Ward-Prowse and Matt Targett are in the England squad for this summer's Under-21 European Championships.

Ward-Prowse and Targett made the cut as Young Lions boss Gareth Southgate cut his provisional 27 man party down to the final 23 to make the trip to the Czech Republic.

Another Saints academy product, Calum Chambers, who joined Arsenal last summer, is also included.

Tottenham defender Eric Dier is the highest-profile omission with Wolves striker Benik Afobe, Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford and Cauley Woodrow, of Fulham, also left out from the original squad.

Tottenham's Harry Kane and Saido Berahino, of West Brom, and Burnley's Danny Ings are all included in a squad which will see England play against Portugal, Sweden and Italy in the group stages.

Saints loanee Filip Djuricic is also heading to the tournament with Serbia.

The squad will train at St. George’s Park over the next two weeks before they face their final send-off for the Euros with a game against Belarus at Barnsley’s Oakwell home on Thursday, June 11.

After that, the players will fly out to their Czech base in Olomouc  on Sunday, June 14, ahead of their Euro Group B opener against Portugal in Uherske Hradiste on Thursday, June 18.
