Saints are closing in on the signing of Sporting Lisbon right-back Cedric Soares, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
The publication says that the 23-year-old is nearing a transfer to St Mary’s, for a fee in excess of €5m – a bid that Stoke recently failed with for the player.
Cedric, a Portugal international, has also been linked with Arsenal in the past.
Elsewhere, the Daily Mail says that Manchester United’s “positive relationship” with Saints will help pave the way for them to sign Morgan Schneiderlin in a £25m deal.
The paper says the clubs are on good terms after the transfer of Luke Shaw last summer, adding that Louis van Gaal wants to sign a holding midfielder to reduce the workload on Michael Carrick.
