SAINTS have terminated the contract of club-record signing Dani Osvaldo.

The Italian international moved to St Mary’s from Roma, in 2013, for an initial fee of £12.9m – with the deal having the potential to rise to £14.6m.

However, Osvaldo proved to be a major flop on the south coast and was suspended in January 2014 after head-butting teammate Jose Fonte in training, never playing for the club again.

Loan spells at Juventus, Inter Milan and Boca Juniors have since followed, but Saints were unable to move the 29-year-old on permanently.

They have now decided to cut their losses on him, agreeing an early end to the player’s contract, which still had two seasons to run.

Osvaldo ends his Saints career having scored three goals in 13 Premier League appearances.
