Saints are all but done for the January transfer window with Ronald Koeman reiterating that none of his star players will be sold this month.

The signing of Charlie Austin from QPR for £4m was the major piece of business done as far as Saints are concerned.

Koeman has insisted from the start of the window that he was targeting one striker, and that nobody he wanted to keep would leave the club.

There have numerous reports linking Shane Long with a move to Liverpool over the last week, while Graziano Pelle has also been the cause of speculation.

Koeman will invariably get asked the same questions again and again over the next week or so, but insisted his answer will not change.

“The same answer,” he shrugged when asked about Long.

“We brought one player in and nobody will go out. I keep that until the 31 of January.

“You know my answer. Nobody will go out but maybe I have to repeat 80 times more but if you like I will do it.”

The situation is somewhat different with Gaston Ramirez.

The £12m man is out of contract in the summer and Koeman confirmed: “I spoke to Gaston and I mention to him there is no future in the club at the end of your contract and if you really like to play football then you have to go somewhere.”

Ramirez remains a Saints player for now though, despite interest from former club Bolgona.

Reports in Italy have suggested that the move is stalling over the length of a potential deal, with Bolgona wanting to sign him for the remainder of the season initially, and on less money than he would be paid by Saints, while representatives for Ramirez are pushing for a two year deal.

Koeman though is not getting involved.

“It’s not my job. I have to prepare my team for the weekend,” he insisted.

“He knows his situation and that’s the case between the board of the club, Southampton, and the player. I’m away from that.”
