There is no doubting that Victor Wanyama, or ‘Big Vic’ as he is more commonly known to those who admire him, is a significant influence for Saints.

It’s been another season of influential displays from Wanyama, who has been his usual powerhouse self in the heart of the Saints midfield.

While much credit has deservedly gone to the back line and the goalkeeper for the club’s strong defensive displays this season, Wanyama is a key factor.

His ability to shield the back four puts him amongst the very best in the league in his position.

With clubs increasingly playing a lone striker, and then a player in a number ten type role, Wanyama’s position has become all the more important.

Daily Echo:

When it comes to his positional sense he is focussed and disciplined.

If you were being honest though, there are a couple of blots on the copy book. One is that he has yet to sign a new contract, and with just a year left on his current deal there is an increasing danger of him moving on this summer.

The other is three red cards in a season, and more specifically the bans they have brought with them.

Daily Echo:

You could probably forgive him a couple, it was really the one at Norwich that was seriously frustrating.

However, if you try and tame Wanyama you surely lose some of his purpose and bite, and, ultimately, that’s why we all love Big Vic.
