It’s not all been smooth sailing for Pelle this season, but once again he is set to finish as the club’s top scorer and there is no doubting his talismanic talents.
He will of course always be judged on goals scored, and with 13 to his name in all competitions it has been a decent if not utterly spectacular season.
A little dip in form here and there didn’t help.
But with Pelle you get so much more than often meets the eye.
While to many he is about the goals, actually that belies his all-round contribution to the team.
He is a great link-up man for Saints, strong in the air, always occupying centre halves.
He combines well with those around him and his five assists in the Premier League alone prove he is no one trick pony.
Pelle seems to thrive as the main man, and the emergence of Shane Long, the return of Jay Rodriguez and the arrival of Charlie Austin has threatened that status.

Whatever the future holds for him, he has responded in the best possible way, by reminding everybody of his best qualities and once again pushing his case to be the first striker since Rickie Lambert four years ago to lift the Daily Echo Player of the Season award.
