Saints look set to hold on to head of scouting and recruitment Ross Wilson with Rangers ready to turn their attentions to his predecessor at St Mary’s, Paul Mitchell.
Wilson, highly thought of in the corridors of power at Saints, had been targeted to take over as director of football at the Scottish giants.
However, it is believed he has opted to stay with Saints instead, leading Rangers to look elsewhere.
It has been reported that Rangers are now considering Mitchell for the job.
Mitchell was a huge success at Saints, recruiting the likes of Graziano Pelle, Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic before switching to Tottenham.
His time at White Hart Lane is coming to an end, though, after he handed in his notice, with rumours suggesting he is being allowed to leave the club early.
