SAINTS have signed Reading defender Alex Pearce on loan until the New Year.

The 19-year old has made eight first team appearances for the Royals this season, having come into the side after Ibrahima Sonko left the Berkshire club.

He has one senior goal to his name and also has one cap for the Scottish U21s.

He has had previous loan spells at Norwich City, Northampton and Bournemouth.

He will remain at St. Mary's until January 1, 2009.

Pearce will not be eligible to play against his parent Club when the two sides meet on November 22nd.

Well we need to shore up the defence, but there must be more experienced defenders out there.

i think i speak for all saints fans when i say who the f***? Wake up Mr Lowe you are clearly not the football man that David McGoldrick claimed you were on radio Hampshire the other night. We dont need more centrebacks just to get a settled defence playing together. New faces wont help at this stage in the season. Particularly if thats another wage drain on the club who we dont wn and so get zero benefit from in the long run.

He's actually quite good - I saw Reading play (sorry, lose to, ahem) Spurs in the FA Cup last year and he was one of the brightest players there.

Yes he's young but if he's as good as Alan Bennett, I'll be happy!!

Strange that the Echo (and the official SFC website) says he can't play against Reading when we meet on Nov 22nd but they never said anything about Stern playing against us next weekend......

Bit old isn't he? I'm waiting for the 16 year olds to be introduced as we won't need to pay them minimum wage :)

What is the point in this?
WE NEED A RIGHT BACK!

What I dont understand is this:

If we cannot afford Rasiaks wages, why are we letting his contract run down by loaning him out to Bolton last year and Watford this year, why not sell him?
The same with Saganowski and John! Does it not make better business sense to sell them while they have a contract and we get a good fee or let them go for free?
I dont understand the logic behind it.
We are obviously not going to have them play for us due to their high wage so why bother loaning them?
Far better to ship them out and get a million for each!

We now have Smith, Pearce, Cork, Pekhart, Robertson, Gasmi all on loan and cant play more than 4 in a match so why not buy them? Where are we going to get a starting XI if they are all loan players.

Alan Bennett has been told he's surplus to requirements at Reading and I believe he was on loan at Brentford. He's certainly worth looking at in January. Let's give Pearce a go, Cork has been a good signing so why should he be no different?

I think he meant with reguards to what i wrote earlier. Unfortunatley radio hampshire don't keep very good archives on their site so it's impossable to give you a link easily. I'm sure it was something that McGoldrick only meant as a way of sucking up to his boss and you can't blame him for it. But it did make me laugh when he said the Mr Lowe was a real 'football' man. I think it must have been the first time i'd heard somebody mention RL and football man in the same sentance before.

One of the reasons we can't sell Rasiak, Saga and John is that we are paying them so much more in wages than anybody else is prepared to. If we agree a fee with another team the player will just refuse to move on because they won't take a substantial cut in wages (a la Skacel and Ipswich). Other teams will pay the wages on a short term loan basis because there is no transfer fee involved plus they are not committed to paying the wages for 3 years like we are. The people to blame for this situation are the guys who agreed to pay the players extortionate wages on long term contracts when they gambled the £7M on getting promotion.

Thanks for the BBC link above. It's nice to have an external source of Saints information, other than Pravda, particularly when the Echo seems to be cutting and pasting whole stories from it, without adding anything extra (like this one)

He is indeed on loan at Brentford and is doing very well for us.

Leave him alone!

StDave, you can not make statements like that on this web-site, players brought in on high wages that were no good and other clubs can not afford their wages, so will not buy them and Crouch not lowe was in charge.
Dear me, you are really taking sense, which is not allowed, as it contradicts all the anti-lowe brigade's propaganda and UTS will probably have indigestion after reading that.

I might be wrong, but I thought Wilde was in charge when the high wage deals were thrshed out, not Crouch.

I thought Crouch jumped into the hot seat when Wilde bottled it.
