EX-SAINTS Association manager Roy Beazley described his golden wedding celebration at St Mary’s on Friday as one of the most memorable days of his life.

More than 130 guests, including many former Saints players, turned up to honour the 71-year-old and his 50 years of marriage to wife Sheila.

In more than 40 years with the association, which he founded, Beazley has helped raise more than £4m for charity.

Guests enjoyed dinner, dancing and speeches, with ex-Saint Nicky Banger among the speakers.

Beazley said: “It was an unbelievable night.

“Apart from getting married, it was probably the best day of my life.

“There were some lovely speeches and it was just superb.

“For Sheila and me, it was the most memorable day, it meant everything.

“My life flashed in front of me several times when I saw some of the people that were there.”

Although he was unable to make the night, former Saint Terry Paine, who Beazley rates as the club’s greatest ever player, paid tribute to him.

“It’s 50 years of marriage and, as I said to him, you would get less for murder,” joked Paine.

“He’s been a great stalwart and was always there supporting us.

“It has always been a pleasure to come and be in his company.

“He is a very special man.”
