SAINTS will tomorrow be aiming to halt the club’s worst ever start to a home league campaign.

The 0-0 draw with Plymouth at St Mary’s recently ensured that Saints have taken only seven points from their first 10 home league games of 2008/09.

Never before in the club’s Football League history – which started back in 1920 – had Saints started a season with only one win, four draws and five defeats in front of their own supporters.

Back in 1969/70 Saints only won one of their first FOURTEEN home games at the Dell – drawing nine and losing four.

But in the first 10 games of that season they actually won one, drew six and lost three, a better record than this season.

Talk of their struggles at home has been kept to a minimum within the Saints camp as Poortvliet feels that mentioning it too much only puts more pressure on his players.

“For myself I wouldn’t talk about home or away anymore because the more we talk about it the more difficult it will be,” he said.

“Saturday is a big opportunity to do it and hopefully we will because we promised our fans."
