SAINTS’ average attendance is down by 22 per cent on 2007/08 following the new record low league gate at St Mary’s on Tuesday night.

The current stadium average for this season is now 16,661 – compared to 21,253 last season and 23,556 in 2006/07 (a 30 per cent drop on the 2008/09 average).

As the statistics show, Saints are by no means alone in suffering a large attendance drop this season.

But, of the clubs that were in the Championship last season, they have lost more fans than any.
