SAINTS remain hopeful of finding a buyer for the club that will stave off the threat of extinction.
In among reports that Saints could fold as early as this time next week if a new owner is not found, talks continue to take place between Southampton Leisure Holdings administrator Mark Fry and parties interested in a possible move to buy the football club.
It has been common knowledge, and frequently reported in the Daily Echo, that the survival of Saints is on the line beyond the end of the season if a new owner is not found.
But Saints’ relegation from the Championship and the ten-point Football League deduction has pricked the national consciousness in recent days and, given the saga, a much-needed higher profile which might even encourage another new party out of the woodwork.
Saints’ financial state remains perilous and, with the last dribbles of income from this season set to dry up after Sunday’s final game of the season at Nottingham Forest, there is not enough money to sustain the club during the summer.
The common football problem of paying wages over the summer months with little income is only exacerbated by the fact Saints cannot sell season tickets for their League One campaign until the club’s future is secured.
However, with a potential benefit game for the club due to take place on Sunday, May 17, the hope is that the administrator will have longer than one week to conclude a deal – if it is required.
The Daily Echo understands that the club are hopeful of a deal being completed in the very near future but, with all these things, nothing can be taken for granted until it is actually signed and sealed.
