Mystery group waiting in wings for possible Southampton takeover

Mystery group poised for 11th hour Saints bid
A MYSTERY overseas group could be poised to make a dramatic 11th hour bid for control of Saints.
The Echo understands that the consortium are waiting in the wings if the Matt Le Tissier-backed Pinnacle bid fails to meet administrator Mark Fry’s deadline extension today.
We revealed last Wednesday that an overseas group had made contact with Pinnacle’s Tony Lyeham a few days earlier with a view to possibly combining funds.
But it is now believed the group are keen to take control of the financially- stricken club by themselves.
The group have been in discussion with Fry for over a week but have yet to table an official bid.
The Echo reported on Saturday how the Pinnacle consortium – who have been dealing with the administrator for around a fortnight now – failed to meet Fry’s initial deadline of the previous day.
The delay centred on an exchange of legal documents setting the wheels in motion for their bid.

Talk of getting more for the stadium on its own seems to be doing well on the rumour front.

I'd hate to see another scenario where we have 2 or 3 people with different views splitting the club down the middle again, meaning that the club never goes forwards only backwards.

Is there any good news out there.
Surely we have got to be a good little deal for someone, SMS, Staplewood, Jacksons farm etc. Regardless of being an SFC fan, froom a business point of view it has to be a deal to be snatched at.....hasnt it?

Southampton sale 'unlikely'- Fry
Fry says the Pinnacle consortium has not yet delivered what it promised
The administrators in charge of Southampton say finding a buyer for the club now looks "unlikely".
Mark Fry of administrator Begbies Traynor told BBC Radio Solent: "It's very unlikely a transaction will be completed."
The Pinnacle consortium, backed by Saints legend Matt Le Tissier, has had its deadline extended until late on Monday afternoon.
"They haven't delivered what they said ," Fry added.
Pinnacle managing director Tony Lynam remains optimistic, however.
"I'm still working on it and if I wasn't confident, I think I would have packed my bags by now. But I'm pretty sure there will be a bid fairly shortly," he said.
Other parties are understood to be in the running to rescue the ailing club, which has just been relegated from the Championship.

I suspect that a 'foreign' buyer would have more funds to invest in the club following a takeover than the Guernsey people. That said, the administrator's legal duty is to get the best deal for the PLC, regardless of how much money is subsequently available to invest in the football club.
The delay is worrying because there are bills to pay (wages, VAT etc) and there's a serious risk that players will have to be sold (at firesale prices) not just to raise cash but because they will be anxiously looking to their futures.
Once a preferred bidder is chosen, it will take another 2 weeks to get the approval of the PLC's creditors. I can't see that the preferred bidder would put in any money until the creditors'approval is obtained.
If there is any default by the football club in paying any of its debts, will there be an additional points deduction imposed by the Football League?

I personally would like to see Pinnacle pool their resources with the overseas investors! I can see the takeover going through otherwise...but I would expect it will then be revealed that there is little money in the transfer market until players are sold!
The more last minute that this takeover is though and the better the deal the investors will get for the club...and therefore, the more money that we can use for the team!

Pompey fans would not travel to Southampton and Southampton fans would not support Pompey playing at St Marys.
Net result?
Another club in administration, faster than it took Saints.

These suggestions, backed up – often hysterically – by “readers” letters continued non-stop until Michael Wilde’s rapturous reception to the chairmanship. Remember good old Mike Osman at St Mary’s for the first match of the 2003-04 season? “Thank you! Thank you Michael Wilde, for giving us back our football club!” Cue standing ovation.

If you are looking for evidence of my claim, check out the back page of the 23 June, 2006, edition, beneath the bold headline “GAVYN: I’M BACKING WILDE” Under which it is stated: “The multi-millionaire former BBC chairman , a lifelong Saints supporter with a personal fortune of at least £100m, leaves open the tantalising prospect of him investing in the club if Rupert Lowe loses his grip on power at St Mary’s.” and so on.
These sentiments were supported by countless thou- well, handfuls of those “in the know”, such as Lawrie McMenemy, Mary Corbett, Lawrie McMenemy, Keith Wiseman, Lawrie McMenemy . . . Need I go on? The point is, the Echo was conned by a very pricey public relations campaign, and the Echo conned its readers. As a result, we are going to be very lucky to have a football club to support next season (quite possibly for some time) because of gullible morons like you Invidia.
Still, no more Rupert! Happy?
