Marcus Liebherr's bid to buy Southampton completed

Swiss deal complete Swiss deal complete

SOUTHAMPTON Football Club has finally been bought.

Marcus Liebherr's bid to buy the club - which is believed to be around the £13m mark - is now complete.

Almost 100 days after Southampton Leisure Holdings were placed in administration, Mark Fry told the Daily Echo: "I am absolutely delighted the takeover has been completed.

"I am not only delighted that it has been completed but also that it has gone to who we feel was the right buyer.

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way - the fans, staff, players and all the media for all their coverage."

Markus Liebherr will now install a new CEO and board of directors.

Below is a statement released by the club:

Southampton Leisure Holdings Plc Joint Administrator Mark Fry today confirms that DMWSL613 Limited has acquired the Company's assets, principally Southampton Football Club for an undisclosed sum.

The purchaser is owned and controlled by Markus Liebherr, 61, who is a Swiss national. Markus Liebherr also owns and controls the Swiss-based Mali Group, which consists of five companies engaged in technologically advanced engineering.

Mark Fry and his team from Begbies Traynor who have been in talks with a number of interested parties, were impressed by Markus Liebherr and his team's commitment and plans for the Club.

Joint Administrator Mark Fry commented: "The sale of the Saints to Markus Liebherr is a fantastic opportunity to rebuild the Club.

Markus Liebherr was attracted to Southampton by a number of qualities which include the Club's rich sporting heritage, loyal fan base, first class stadium and training facilities and the potential for the Saints to regain their rightful place at the higher echelons of English football.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all Saints' fans for their support and patience in what have been uncertain times for the Club. I would also like to wish both Markus and the Club well for future success."

The money transfer in itself is pretty much instant via CHAPS or other computer transfer methods, but at each stage, there needs to be written confirmation that funds have been received into the specific bank accounts, such as Begbies Traylor and then into Barclays, Aviva and any other creditors.

All needs to be signed and authorised by officials of those companies before Mark Fry can close the books on the business and declare all debts paid.

When the morning skies grow red

And o'er us their radiance shed,

Thou, O Lord, appearest in their light.

When the Alps glow bright with splendour,

Pray to God, to Him surrender,

For you feel and understand,

That He dwelleth in this land.

In the sunset Thou art night

And beyond the starry sky,

Thou, O loving Father, ever near.

When to Heaven we are departing,

Joy and bliss Thou'lt be imparting,

For we feel and understand

That Thou dwellest in this land.

When dark clouds enshroud the hills

And gray mist the valley fills,

Yet Thou art not hidden from Thy sons.

Pierce the gloom in which we cover

With Thy sunshine's cleansing power

Then we'll feel and understand

That God dwelleth in this land.

Towards us in the wild storm coming,

You yourself give us resistance and stronghold,

You, almighty ruling, rescuing!

During horror and nights of thunderstorms

Let us childlike trust Him!

Yes, we feel and understand;

Yes, we feel and understand

That God dwelleth in this land.

As much as Wotte has shown loyality hes rubbish, so he must go.

Would be nice if new owners invited Tiss in to the fold somehow, he must feel a fool for being sucked in by the tyre kickers.

Davis must stay, was awesome last year, and deserves to be rewarded for his patience.

Finally season tkts must be kept at a minimum, lets fill the stadium every week, the 13000 that went to every game last year, the 10000 rupert lowest of the lowe haters, even the prawn sandwich brigade from prem days.

Oh Happy Days !!!

Well done to the creditors,in appointing administrators they effectively got shot of the previous owners. Bless you.

Well done to Mark Fry who did a good job even when faced with a bunch of half wit bidders who were sharking around trying to get a stake in a club to asset strip.

Condolences to Matt Le Tiss, you backed the wrong horse there. You remain a legend to all Saimts fans but your post retirement judgement is once again proven to be highly suspect.

Condolences to the Echo for publishing some outright sensationalist drivel on so many occasions. Other than announcing the administration arrangement in April, and publishing todays news, most of your stories have not been worthy of a pre-school literacy test. Surely there are lessons for the Echo in all this.

Huge congratulations and best wishes to all Saints fans and people who posted on this site. (Even the wind-up merchants, liars and those who still don't know what a CVA is.) It's been lively entertaining and shows just how much passion there is for this club.

We have the result we needed, a financially viable club.

Who knows what will happen next, but it cant get any worse then we've seen already. The only way is up.

See y'all.

As a Saints fan since the playing days of Mick Channon and Co; I am delighted with news that we have now been taken out of administration by a guy who has clearly got his head screwed on the right way. I also like the way he is being portrayed as someone who expects the staff, players and fans to all play their part in making our club do it's part. I suspect that if he sees success on the pitch he will do his utmost to back that success. I am a very happy Saints fan.

The most important thing that needs to come out of this whole painful episode isn't the money we might have to spend but that we never, ever take the club for granted again.
totally agree, but also that we never allow the likes of Mr Lowe to darken the door at SMS.God I am happy,I can hold my head up again,be proud to proclaim I support SFC-What a feeling.Yesterday is todays history.

And what will you do if Wotte doesn't go? Boycott? Boo the team?

Those days are behind us and for a season, just one whole season, couldn't we all support the team, the staff, the coach and the new owner. I know it won't last, but for goodness sake........

Anyhow, it's all down to our new owner and if he's good enough to save our Saints, he's good enough to pick the manager. I'd support his choice even if he brought Harry back. Well.......hmmm gritted teeth maybe.

Just need to ensure the prices reflect the level and quality of football. A winning team helps and that comes from building strong at the back and not conceding goals.
Great news day...now what's a reasonable price for League 1 football? £15 for an adult and £8 for a junior?

It's 9.00am here in Santa Rosa, California and have just logged in to my work pc and YES!YES!YES! This is fantastic news (especially after the Pinnacle debacle). I feel so relieved as well, as well as incredibly excited about the future. If it wasn't for Pinnacle, we would most probably have a new manager as well as some new players, and the pre season all sorted. As it is, Saints have some serious work to do in the next few weeks, and I'm concerned that that we will suffer from lack of preparedness. But without a doubt, this is the best news that us long suffering Saints fans have had for quite a few years, and I just cannot wait for the new season to start. I hope that the stadium is nearly full every week to show support for the new owners, as well as the new(ish) team. Lastly; I hope that all Saints fans will be patient with the team and management. Thank you Sir for buying ouy lovely club. I hope one day it will come to mean as much to you as it does to us.

Right-on Fides and St Retford.

Someone one here spoke of holding their head up. Sure thing. Being a fan entitles you to that, nay encourages you to. Being a 'fan' defines you.
Someone thought there was a time when anyone held their head low or thought we were the 'laughing stock' to other fans and of course the hundreds of thousands of our neighbours that have no interest in Saints. But if that was so it was because collectively we let the club down rather than hold it together (whoever was on the board) and was willing to play Russian roulette with it. Not because of the laughing stock of one individual.
Here's to the future, A future.

Excuse me, but when did Clive Foley and Nick Illingsworth become the voice of supporters. I have never asked them to speak for me. I have just heard both on Radio Solent, Foley bleating on about how long this has taken and the players that have gone. I understand where he is coming from on that, but this time last week we were looking into an abyss. Be grateful we still have a team. Also I pay for my season ticket, not like Clive who goes free either by taking his tyro team or his kids school. Cheap skate! I could of done this on either score but chose to still renew my ticket over the last 4 years, and I know this has got up alot of season ticket holders noses. I don't have a problem with kids going cheap, as they are the supporters of tomorrow. But at least make it more than a MacDonalds Happy Meal. But lets not forget the supporters of today and yeasterday!

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?

A beautiful sight, we're happy tonight
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

Gone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is the new bird
He sings a love song as we go along
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

In the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say, "Are you married?", We'll say, "No man
But you can do the job when you're in town"

Later on, we'll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid, the plans that we've made
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

Oh, you gotta keep walking
Oh, I'm walking, oh, I'm walking

They got me walking

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?
In the lane, snow is glistening

Gone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is the new bird
He sings a love song as we go along
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

In the meadow, we can build a snowman
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with Mr. Snowman
Until the other kids knock him down

When it's cold, ain't it thrilling?
Though your nose gets to chilling
We'll frolic and play the Eskimo way
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

Later on, we'll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid, the plans that we've made
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

Oh, you gotta keep walking
Oh, I'm walking, oh, I'm walking

They got me walking

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight, we're happy tonight
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

Gone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is the new bird
He sings a love song as we go along
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

In the meadow, we can build a snowman
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with Mr. Snowman
Until the other kids knock him down

When it's cold, ain't it thrilling?
Though your nose gets to chilling
We'll frolic and play the Eskimo way
Walking in a Liebherr wonderland

What a wonderful feeling! Was logged on most of the day at work but unable to comment. Had tears in my eyes and had to walk away from pc to make sure I didn't make a complete prat of myself. Had a beer on the train on the way home. Another one now I'm here. I gave up my season ticket years ago partly because of family, youth football coaching and lack of funds but mostly because I had become disheartened by the Lowe regime and the lack of ambition. Now I am just so pleased that we are debt free with a sensible head at the healm. If I can scrape the money together I will buy a season ticket. The good times are coming back!

Oh Happy Days !!!
I don't much care who is manager at the moment. That is not a priority. The priority has been to save the club from extinction. Anything else has been secondary. Now it looks as if we have a serious sensible owner who is here for the long term and has the cash if it is needed. We now need a period of stability. Get out of contract players signed and a few decent new faces in on the playing side before the season starts. Build solid foundations and away we go!!!!

the following is on sky sports website

Southampton have not ruled out handing Matt Le Tissier a role within the now secure club, according to chief operating officer Andy Oldknow.

On Wednesday, the League One side's future was secured after Swiss businessman Markus Liebherr completed his takeover.

The news came as a major relief to Saints supporters following the serious threat of liquidation.

Southampton legend Le Tissier had been involved in a takeover attempt with the Pinnacle Group, but the bid was withdrawn.

However, Oldknow has confirmed club officials are to meet with Le Tissier over his views on the South Coast outfit's future.

First-class
Oldknow told Sky Sports News: "Matt's fantastic. He's been brilliant and nothing but first-class in terms of his engagement with me.

"In due course we will be meeting with him to listen to his views. We don't have anything in mind for Matt. Let's see what happens."

Oldknow went on to explain that a thorough investigation into the running of Southampton will take place, including talks with current manager Mark Wotte.

He said: "We went through a considered process and it has been tense, with the timelines involved.

"(The future holds) stability. We will be making appropriate finances available to make us competitive at this level.

Wotte
"Subsequently, as we go forward, we will be reviewing those finances. We're not going to get carried away.

"We've already formulated plans for the off-the-field and on-the-field operations. We will be reviewing certain aspects of the business and taking the appropriate action.

"He is part of that review. We have a meeting scheduled with him early next week where we will look at the tools he feels the first-team squad needs."

Oldknow also outlined that new owner Liebherr will enjoy a distanced approach, adding: "As I understand it, Markus wishes to be a hands-off owner.

"He will let the executive run the club and report back to him on a timely basis."

Great that the takeover has been completed, I'm absouluty chuffed.

Bu we need to do a few things now that the takeover has been completed:

1) Sign up kelvin davis, stern john, jason euell etc...

2) get a new manager, mark wotte doesnt know nothing about english football, get in a traditional english manager like kevin keegan or nigel pearson.

3) Buy at least 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 strikers which are experienced so that we aren't all youth like last year. To put youth and not enough experience.

4) Get rid of Paul Wotton he's a rubbish midfielder, what did he do last year? nothing just a pay check that got saints into administartion.

5) Get in Graeme Murty, not tessem.

6) get in some quality champiuonship players so our new strenthen squad.

Since Mark Fry was appointed I've always said "expect the un-expected" and "they'll be a twist".

I never could have dreamt that we now have a geniune owner who has a strong SOUTHAMPTON HEART.

Thank you again Markus....you're name is now written in Southampton's history. You have given us repect, love and our life back. I would like to nominate you with the "freedom of the city".....but you have that already as far as I'm concerned for what you had given us.

Finally, as I quoted yesterday may I say "Thank You" on behalf of ALL Saints fans who are not here anymore in person but are in our HEARTS.

The whole thing was a nightmare turned into a dream come true.

Looking back Mark Fry has really done a brilliant job.

Many on this site were slagging him for getting sucked in by Pinnacle but can you imagine the outcry if fans found out that he turned down a 15.5 offer from a Matt Le Tissier backed bid which wanted exclusivity. He would have been lynched.

The very second they went out of time he got Markus back at the table had he delayed things could have been very very different.

Mark Fry and no doubt his back room team and co-administrator are heroes in this saga.

Matt and Pinnacle got egg on their faces but should not be slammed for genuinely trying to save the club. I for one fully supported their bid and stand by their efforts. Matt is a hero Saint many times over and will always be.

Marc Jackson was curried in the postings. Some of the terrible things said were uncalled for. Whether or not he had the means to pull off a deal was not reason to treat him as badly as he was in the threads. I hope one day he finds a club... Maybe Pompey could use a rescue pack.

Every good tale leaves the readers wandering. Here we wander who was behind The World Wide Financial Group represented by Keith Harris. Oldknow used to be Marketing Director of Everton before coming to us as Commercial Director. He was one of the 3 paid directors who left after the debacle with the unpaid non exec directors who started to over-push their weight around in the boardroom - Leon Crouch being one of them. He must have been anti-Lowe or he would have stayed, I guess.

First time on here since 1.30am this morning (had to sleep and go to work). So can I just echo what everyone else has been saying all day... I AM SO HAPPY WE HAVE A FUNDED CLUB AGAIN AND FEEL REALLY OPTIMISTIC THAT WE'LL SOON BE BACK UP WHERE WE BELONG. COYR!

I don't really like to cast dispursions about other clubs but surely Fratton is only worth about a hundred quid its smaller than the dell and has blue paint all over it. Oh I think they cleaned the loos last month.
