Alan Pardew is anticipating transfer movement both in and out of St Mary’s in the final week before the window shuts.
The Saints boss, whose side host Birmingham in the Carling Cup at St Mary’s tonight, believes there is still plenty of business to be done.
Pardew admitted that, in some ways, it will be a relief come September 2 when he knows who exactly is in his squad – and that it may help to focus some minds on the task in hand.
He said: “I think there’ll be movement in and movement out.
“I hope so. We are working on a couple of issues coming in and there are a couple of areas where we feel players are going to go out.

“We have a scouting network in place, we’re getting much more information available on who is available at other clubs and now we can focus on recruiting the right players for Southampton Football Club.
