Southampton sign Brentford leftback Ryan Dickson, subject to tribunal fee

Daily Echo: RYAN DICKSON RYAN DICKSON

SAINTS have signed Ryan Dickson but are heading to a tribunal over compensation for the defender, the Daily Echo can reveal.

Sources have confirmed the Brentford left back has joined the club, on what is understood to be a three-year deal, after completing a medical last week.

However, the two sides are at loggerheads over the compensation owed for the 23-year-old.

Dickson is out of contract at Griffin Park this summer after turning down a new deal with the Bees.

As he is under 24, Saints must agree a compensation package with the London club.

It is understood Saints have offered less than £100,000, with Brentford wanting as much as £500,000.

The full story is only in today's Daily Echo

Don't agree with that. Harding is technically very good. Good crosser, pops up with goals and is hardly ever beaten for pace.
.
I don't see Dickson as a signing to replace Harding, more to add to the strength of the squad and keep the pressure on Harding to be at the top of his game.

Can that happen if we have to go to a tribunal to settle the fee?

Technically we can't parade him as a signing until that happens, surely?

(Maybe we can, and stop calling me Shirley!)

Good if it happens though! Time to wear out the F5 key again!

If he has signed Shirley (and I'll await official confirmation of that), then we have accepted the tribunals decision before it has been made. The fee is therefore no longer in dipute. He is therefore a Saint and can be paraded if we want.

I think.

Yeah I think the Echo is a little premature with this story...they haven't really learnt yet that nothing is ever completed and true until it is released on the Saints website.

He would give good competition down the left side not just for Harding but for Lallana in left midfield. It's more options for AP! It will be interesting if he only brings in 1 new right back with Murty being allowed to train with the squad to hopefully earn himself another contract!

Normally a tribunal screws the club selling, i remember Palace a few years ago turning down 3 and 4 million pound bids for Jon Bostock, Sprus signed him on a free as he was 16 and tribunal gave palace £700K. Hopefully we can pick him up for around the £100K mark. I think Brentford are being optimistic hoping for £500K for a player in League one who is out of contract.

If you remember at home against Brentford ,Dickson ran through from left back, beating about 5 players and crossed it for Taylor to score the equaliser. This cancelled out Dan Harding's goal for Saints

A little premature here Echo!

I have emailed the club for confirmation which has not yet arrived.

Probably a good idea to wait for confirmation before jumping the gun!

Deal have been known to collapse if a compensation figure is not agreed, or can result in lengthy delays in the deal being completed.

Will update you all if the club get back to me.

St Marys Mush- it is you that has no class-you must know that genuine Saints fans only give to the lie about Benali and others. It is why, in the past, countless managers have overlooked signing Frannie, whilst the same number of Saints bosses have had the pleasure of his committment, dedication and under-valued skills. Frannie was one of the best exponents of the quick crossfield ball while breaking from the left, setting up instant attacks down the right.
There is a bit of the Nick Holmes about Dan Harding too, and he has looked a bit decent when played in the right-back role.
I'm still smarting from reading a "Saints fan" knocking a legend in a piece about a Championship player.

I do hope we are not going the way Liverpool seems to be going-cant see them being a force any more for the forseeable future. Lets start a campaign for more, frequent and free news from the official site - after all the Boss man can't need our pennies , or can he?
Maybe the official site just report things when they actually happen and don't just post pointless rumours! - they can easily leave that to someone else to try and fill their pages!!

At the end of the day, when something happens it will be on the OS......until then (and whatever you read here!!) assume nothing has!!

But football doesnt work that way does it ?
If your preparing to take money from punters ,is it rocket science that you should be trying to generate interest?
I understand the spat between echo and saints, but Ive a feeling that theres an ego that needs massaging.
Waiting for the OS to announce something is like waiting for the general to say "fire" at an execution.
I repeat (as previously) this is a PR exercise that is going t***s up.
Get the kit out, start cranking it up,its getting boring now.
The standard of football next season better be good.
I think its called "setting yourself up for faillure" .

O.K so we are now nearly through the middle of June and still no official new players? no news on new kit? NC upsets loyal supporters by announcing season ticket prices and deadlines and scraps monthly payment plan? player turns Saint's down to stay at Brighton? as well as players who were offered new contracts with Saint's still not signed them? Now I am seriously worried what is going on something is not right, NC dis-likes AP for some reason so is he denying the manager new players by a way of stabbing him in back so he has an excuse to sack him! NC is a total idiot and is clueless about football as has shown so far in his short time at Saint's

Nice to see we're signing players...now what about season tickets? Has anyone had a renewal letter yet? They want money by the end of June, but still none of my group have had any communication from the club at all, which is absolutely disgraceful. I tried to get online and pay for my ticket and the stupid website won't accept my card. I write to Sam Ettridge by email but they can't fix it, it seems. They want me to phone, but I refuse to do that, and I certainly won't pay a booking fee on top of my already inflated ticket price. Then they wanted my card number via unsecure email- having a laugh!!! Has anyone else experienced this joke of a renewal system (that doesn't seem to exist)?? I can't believe I am the customer, ready to part with £393, yet the club have made NO effort to get that money out of me....this is worse than the old days. Do they want the money or not?

Gary did you read the chairman's statement on the OS totally supporting Alan Pardew?

Nicola Cortese's vision for the club sold the idea of resurrection to Markus Leibherr and you call him a total idiot?

I do believe a payment should be in place but read what you are saying and ask who's got a knife in whose back?

This club has a network of people working to line up players through agents etc... most players are reported to be on holiday but I'll assume all the ones we want probably have appointments at sms.. No news is just that No news it isn't call for slandering the chairman.

Remember exactly what you said as Saints get the L1 Championship this season.

Did you know that Saints have left the topsoil from last seasons pitch which was the best pitch in any division, outside the stadium for anyone to take home? I've got my 100 litres which will be going on my red and white rose bushes. Check out Saints web site for details, basically it's in the South Car park, remember to take a shovel!

Remember exactly what you said as Saints get the L1 Championship this season.[/p][/quote]since Nicola saved our club, i've got nothing but good things to say about the man, the people down the road would trade anything to have him as their chairman, roll on the new season, its going to be a great one! Good morning, I see New Zealand are the tournament outsiders at 2000/1 to win the World Cup, good luck though! Gosport Saint how are your tomatoes? Did you know that Saints have left the topsoil from last seasons pitch which was the best pitch in any division, outside the stadium for anyone to take home? I've got my 100 litres which will be going on my red and white rose bushes. Check out Saints web site for details, basically it's in the South Car park, remember to take a shovel!
Tomatoes have gone into liquidation, even sms's first class top soil won't save them.
Roses doing well, got the manure from Fratton, a lot of sh1t going free there.
New kit tomorrow, yes/no.

Whilst shovelling my topsoil which was clearly 90 percent horse poo (my car needs a good hoover) 2 x Saints staff appeared on the scene to collect some soil for themselves. I asked them if the new Saints kit would be white, with a red diagonal stripe and the girls replied
Yes

no, no erm yes, yes, oooh shouldnt have said yes, no. Remember where you heard it 1st!

my brother in law lives in Cosham and is a Portsmouth fan, his garden consists of 3 sq metres of grass (now covered with Fortress St Mary's topsoil!).

It's great that Saints can relay their pitch, which was A1 last year, not because they have to, but because they bloody well can!

Clearly you have forgotten that we nearly lost our club.

We owe our owners endless support. If you don't want to...why not support another team?.

The future is Southampton FC....whether you like it or not.
