Ryan Dickson signed finally confirmed by Southampton FC

Ryan Dickson Ryan Dickson

SAINTS have finally confirmed the signing of Brentford's out of contract left back Ryan Dickson.

The 23-year-old, whose arrival at St Mary's on a three-year deal was revealed in last Thursday's Echo, becomes manager Alan Pardew's first close season purchase.

"There were Championship clubs interested in me, but I can see the potential here," Dickson said.

The player's fee will be decided by a tribunal, with Brentford believed to be wanting around £500,000 and Saints offering around a fifth of that.

Must admit - dont know much about this guy as didnt see him play against us, but people on here seem happy with this signing and sky sports says he is one of the most promising left backs outside the premiership, so this on paper sounds a really good bit of business, hopefully we can get him for closer the £100K mark, meaning more money to spend for Pards

What I like are Dickson's comments
about the Club - the enthusiasm he
found from NC and AP leaving him in
no doubt about choosing us over
Championship clubs.He wants to play
in a higher league and believes he will
get there by joining us. Similar comments to Fonte's when he joined us. It is now up to us -THE
FANS- to get behind the team.
I am confident we will gain promotion
but it will not be easy because every
team will raise their game against us.
There will be one or two sticky patches and this, especially, is when
the team will need our support.
Looking forward to the other
signings that appear to be in the
pipeline. COYR>

Good young signing, haven't heard too much about him, but if Brentford fans are sad to see him go, then that can only be good news for us, building a great squad now, Alan Pardew has got what it takes, with a little bit of patience from the fans and his employers to get us back into the Premier League, and we should have a very strong and competent team when we get there, unlike when we left.

This is from the saintsfc.co.uk website:

Reliable news first on the Official Website

With heightened speculation surrounding the Club during this transfer window, the Club urges fans to take any rumours with a pinch of salt.

"We remind all Saints fans that news will appear first exclusively on our official website. We have already seen a number of cases where agents publicly link their players with us for no other reason than to strengthen their position when negotiating contracts with other Clubs. That even extends as far as certain players declaring that they have been offered a contract by the Club when they have not" explained Club Spokesman Jordan Sibley.

"The Club has identified clear targets with the view of strengthening the side further and the people in charge know what they are doing. Fans can rest assured that any signings will be exclusively communicated on this website as soon as there is an announcement to be made." Sibley added.

Think they might be taking a bit of a swipe at the recent tabloid speculation there, concerning Mr Pardew?

And the spanish guy at Brighton!

Will SFC ever rebuild their relationship with the Echo?

Do bigger clubs like Liverpool and Manchester Utd have such a poor relationship with their local papers?

Someone needs to sort this out, because fans just want to buy their local paper and trust what the journalists write is unbiased, and will not be misleading towards its readers with petty in-fighting and point scoring!

Bury the hatchet and move forward because the paper survives and has thrived over the years due to the thousands of Saints fans buying it regularly.

Big welcome Ryan. Fast track to the Prem with Pards Red Army and the mighty Southampton Football Club.

For once glad the league tribunal is there to sort this out.. for a change it seems amiable and sensible. Anyway Ryan we hope you enjoy every second, every goal and every tackle in your pending three years.

This is definitely a signing ready for the Championship,Just like Fonte.
Unfortunately I don't think many of our current squad will be good enough when we go up. This includes Harding.Good enough for League 1,but not enough for the Championship

Oh dear, we seem to have signed the best player from another club! We really should stop doing this as we will end up awfully unpopular! Anyway NC made a tidy packet (2 season tickets & 3 shirts!) out of me yesterday and I demand more signings now!

Nick bailey from charlton. He scored I think 10 or 12 goals from CM last season. Pardew has links with him anyway as he signed him when he was at charlton. Best bet

Mrs Mills has more talent. I think you will see Mills on his way now, he would struggle to get in the Bournemouth team.

I want to comment on something different, I read the article on the Saints official site about Dixon signing and at the bottom of the article was a snipe aimed towards the Echo, about only believing story's from the Official site.
Well I actually read the Echo Saints pages 20-1 over the Siants official site, I feel the Official site is extremley poor for news and speculation and offers absolutley no inrteractivity with the readers. So I for one actually am proud to say I prefer the Echo website over the Official one by a country mile.
Feel free to comment on this..

Well said, I also love this facility, something saints don't offer. They have even stopped individual topics on their new facebook page.
The Echo site is much better than the News site, which is to easy to delete from.

Absolutely but lived in NZ since '74.
Ricki's trial Jan 1982 was 3 reserve games and a friendly against IFK Gothenburg.. lol didn't go well but at least he got 90 mins in a Saints Shirt at the Dell. I doubt if many Sotonians could name every trialist or reserve squad member but hats off to those who can recall that sort of stuff.. always good on a quiz team.

Don't slag off Dan on this one - if you had lived in NZ in the 70's and 80's you would realise that any news on football was a weekly one hour highlights show one week late, and any news on saints was when family back home sent you the odd newspaper cutting....
