Surman completes Norwich move

Andrew Surman Andrew Surman

FORMER Saints star Andrew Surman has joined Norwich City, ending hopes of the 23-year-old moving back to his old club.

Surman has made the switch from Wolves on a three-year-deal for an undisclosed fee, becoming the Canaries' fifth sumer signing.

Saints had been reportedly interested in brining the midfielder back to St Mary's, but he has instead opted to move to the Championship.

Norwich boss Paul Lambert said: "I watched him progress with Southampton, he's got a terrific left foot and is very good on the ball.

"He will give us balance and like everyone else he will come in and compete for a place.

"He certainly knows the Championship and I'm sure he'll do well for us."

Shame... He would've have been a great boost for us, Maybe AP has other ideas!? Good luck for the coming season Andrew Surman - Norwich City are a good championship side.

Coming back would have been good for fans, however for him and his career, it's the right the move.

We have a smashing rumour thread but these should go in one called who's not coming tot he party. lol

Faith is strong that we will have a few super additions to the squad and I hope after the criticism of the pre-season games last year that we get another game announced on that front too.

Anyone any thoughts on what part Mills and Holmes will play this year? The inference has been that Holmes hasn't been at peak but should be now.

Norwich are welcome to him. He obviously did not want to come back to us. We need to get some new names on our books soon though if we are going to have a fully competitive squad for the coming season.

Yes Dan, do have some thoughts. They are both useless and can play for someone else.
A.P hopefully back from hols, so some great new signings very soon.
Seen a fairly good player on tv tonight called Messi, he'll do

I doubt AP even wanted to talk to him. So it was probably his best option!

He's average.

gutted for Drew really. Though that he had potential and that he played for the shirt. Norwich is a bit of a negative move for him. They weren't as good as Saints last year and Saints will overtake them in 3 years.

Still I am sure that whoever we sign will be cracking. we nee dot get a move on hough

He was sold to keep the club alive financially, amazing how short peoples memories are.

The fact is there would have been a sell-on clause insisted on when he went to Wolves thats why Saints havn't attempted to resign him as they wouldn't get that money from Norwich.

I'm 100% sure he would have prefered to come back here, its a total financial decision not a footballing one.

It is a footballing one for Saints! I do not believe we wanted him and that he would have given much to the team.

Are you telling me Norwich would have offered him more than us? You have got to be kidding, Norwich are completely skint!!!!

Are you retarded hedge end bob?

We were on the verge of being liquidated and there wouldn't have been a SFC if any player who had a re-sale value wasn't sold, things are different now, you can't compare him to Le Tiss, Matt stayed because he genuinely loved the club, it ticked every box, and he was 1 in a million, we'll probably never see another player with that ability and loyalty again.

Good luck to Andrew he's a good, not great player, it would have been nice to see him back, but it really isn't the end of the world.

Lot of sour grapes going on here. If we'd got him everyone would be pleased, because we didn't he is suddenly a waste of space. He had to leave us because we needed the money so good luck to him. I think he was probably considered as much as any other available player. He may have turned us down for a chance in the championship or we may not have wanted him. We will never know, but don't slag the guy off.

What is going on in the club, from outside it seems a shambles !!
1. Surman never wanted to leave and wanted to come back but club did not make an offer
2. Harding and Mills are good left backs but we buy another but do not have any right backs
3. No move for proven forwards / wide players Antonio or Waigo
4. Backroom staff a mess with Henderson gone, Mo Gimble in question, Medicial staff decimiated.
Does anyone know what Reed does or is he just a yes man to AP as he was before at CP
5. It appears that NC and AP are not in harmony, both with conflicting egos and directions
6. Unusual mix of decisions &/or lack of them could be as destabilizing as the RL era if not sorted quickly

So come on NC & AP - Training starts in couple of weeks so there is a lot to do and at least six players to sign who must be better than we have got. Two rightbacks, a centreback, a midfield general, a winger & a big Striker.

NC PLEASE reinstate the half season tickets &/or stage payments as this decision is a shot if your own foot.

So how would you run the club then Mr Knowitall?

Why don't you drop in a CV because you're obviously the man for the job!

If things are really that terrible, have you ever considered a change of club because Saints obviously disappoint you at every turn, if what's going on now is so depressing what were you like when Mr Lowe was at the helm?

I understand your worries, but Saints have it all in hand. Dixon is a good utility player down the left, can play left midfield or left back, Harding can play at left or right back, so both positions covered, and will be strengthened. Mills I reckon will go.
Still 10 days till pre-season, so plenty of time for new blood to come in, watch out for Lines and my outside bet of Mullins.
Antonio I hope will be back, and I wouldn't be surprised if Papa isn't as well. Think his agent was trying to bump up his fee. But if he isn't, well A.P will have it covered.
I think we could see Murty back as well, as right backs go, he is probably the best in the Division. Just have to wait on his injury.
Forget the half season ticket, it aint going to happen, nor the payment plan, been and gone. People are finding ways, and I can see bigger crowds this season.
This is going to be the best season since 84, COY sashes

On the Surman thing, suggest do what he did-move on!
Were you looking in the mirror, or did the Echo photo get developed the wrong way round. As I suggested previously, the most authentic versions will be the plain white tee-shirts( or a grandad vest?) worn with a loose sash, I think this pre-dates Umbro too!
