Southampton sign Frazer Richardson from Charlton

Frazer Richardson Frazer Richardson

SAINTS have signed Charlton right back Frazer Richardson in a deal worth £450,000.

The 27-year-old, who was named in the League One team of the year last season, has moved to St Mary's on a three-year deal.

The former England Under-20 international previously captained Leeds.

His signing addresses a key need for Saints, who have been without a recognised right back since the end of the season.

"Southampton expressed an interest in me and then made an offer to Charlton that I don't think they could refuse," said Richardson.

"I'm thoroughly delighted to be here."

A great signing, now well set for the wing backs, with a solid centre setup, so thats the back line sorted, just need a strong holding midfielder to compete against Hammond, re-sign Antonio permanently, dont let the Leeds scum have him, maybe another attacking midfielder, and then a strong forward, bit concerned that the renewal of Connolly's contract might mean we have given up the ghost on buying a quality striker (although DC is still a quality player)... just bought my ticket for Plymouth, only 32 days to go and counting...

I called this one weeks ago when I said that AP would only be going after the very best. L1 team of the year, clubs players of the years etc. Otherwise he would of kept people like John Ossembor/L James.

This is a quality signing and only proves my point the second right back will be in the form of Simon Francis of Southend (Player of the year). I would think we havent had signings in the last three weeks is that we were in for people like Surman and Bailey - Bailey I feel we could still be in for - something is holding up move to borough.

Things will start moving now I would think. I would assume AP is after the following to give us two quality in each position:

RB - Simon Francis ( I believe he or the player he brings in will also be able to be a quality cb).
MID - Surman missed, Bailey missed - well not quite he hasnt signed yet for middlesborough (I wonder way that is!) If he really wants him he may be giving him an offer he cant refuse. Chris Lines will be his next choice, then Danns/Stock.
Winger - Antiono (also be a back up striker). Possibility Lloyd Sam as well.
Striker - I am convinced he is after Beattie. Again the longer beattie doesnt sign for a prem club we have a massive chance of getting him.

Key players in to summarise:
Simon Francis, Nicky Bailey, Lloyd Sam, Micha Antiono, James Beattie, Biakovski to resign aswell.

Add to that Connelly & Dickson already signed this is quality signings after getting rid of 14 dead wood.

Wotton, Holmes and Pulis can go as well which would really trim the squad.

Beattie will be the last signing and the marquee signing for saints this summer. Hopefully the next rb will now follow quickly now they have there first choice. Baileys future I'm sure will be sorted one way or another this week too - hopefully in our favour. Same with Antiono.

Sam and Beattie will take longer as they will be waying up there options.

Breathtaking, Machiavellian even. I've finally realised what wicked little game Nicola and Alan are up to. They've just put together the best -position-by position squad in the division by picking off the best players other team held.
Davis, Harding, Jaidi, Schneiderlin and Lallana were already better than anyone else, Fonte came in from the Championship, Connolly is proven quality and in the last 10 months they've bought up the best players from:
Colchester: Hammond
Bristol Rovers: Lambert
Southend: Barnard
Exeter: Seabourne
Brentford: Dickson
Charlton: Richardson

Fantastic.

This is crazy. I live in Kent and was talking to the Aunt of a player called Chris Solley. He is a young right back at Charlton who has just signed a new contract. She said that Chris is highly rated but he hasn't played much because the first choice right back Frazer Richardson is really good. Good news for young Solly and even better news for us. We have enough as it is to win this league but a couple more would be lovely. Well done Pards and Nicola, welcome to the future Frazer.
