Guilherme do Prado joins Southampton

Saints snap up Brazilian Saints snap up Brazilian

SAINTS have announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Guilherme do Prado from Serie A side Cesena.

The attacking midfielder has joined on a five-month loan deal.

Saints have the option to make the switch permanent in the January transfer window.

The 28 year-old will wear the vacant number 11 shirt.

For a video of the top stories in today's Daily Echo, click the front page.

And he could be available for tomorrow’s Carling Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers at St Mary’s, subject to Saints receiving his international clearance from the Italian FA.

Italian top-flight duo Roma and Chievo and second tier side Torino have all been linked with the player this summer.

Do Prado didn't play in Cesena's final pre-season friendly against Brescia on Saturday and was apparently at St Mary's instead to watch Saints' 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient.

Do Prado, who counts Perugia and Fiorentina among his previous clubs, joined Cesena last summer.

He played 34 times and scored nine times as they secured promotion to the top-flight.

I reckon he'll drop into the right of the midfield and poor old Barney will miss out with Lallana moving up top alongside Rickie. Just my opinion but might work! If not you have to make the choice between Spiderpig and Hammond...

I think Hammond would be dropped, spiderman and Hammond are too similar anyway, both are defensive midfielders.

Connolly up front wit Rickie for me too! Connolly is still a class act and IS FIT!! Why master tactician Pardew doesn't play him, only he knows!!

That was my concern aswell we had this with Papa the Italian FA take ages to sort out paperwork
but so glad we have another option on the wing I've been saying for ages we need some extra wingers to replace Papa and Antonio and also add competition for those places coz from what I saw from Puncheon on saturday he needs a kick up the a**e and fight for his place he looks far too relaxed too many touches for no reason allowing the oppostiotion to reorganise

Saints with a Brazillian... sounds slick.

Tons of Raymundo vids online.. plays both sides up the middle and in the box, a play making midfielder with two feet, he's tall, looks quick, has super touch and he can bend it like Beckham on pills.

Dare I say this chap looks like a cross between papa and Ants with more skill and touch than both.. let's hope.

I can't blame the Echo for not wanting to buy a photo though.. way to much photoshop on poor images on the OS shame.. Mind you Pards looks very pleased to be shaking his hand.

Cracking gain for Saints.

I am wondering whether we might now have a 'home' side and an 'away' side.
The home side based around Gully to get over tight defensive play whilst the away side use more wide players for the quick counter attack play that's wanted at away games.
Just a thought. COYBRS

I know it is only two matchs but I do believe this is not a team that is looking to be promoted!

Last saeson we had the -10 that stopped us this season we have the odds n to win the division? is this too big a cross for our team to carry!! it did Leeds in over the last couple of seasons and they only just made it out last season.

So come on you saints shart showing us what you ar made off and get some points on the board please!!!!!!!!!!!

Hammons and Morgan are too similar, said this last year and no others are starting to agree. In this league at home at least we need one sitting midfielder and one who can run at defenders. With those changes to current team then goals will flow and the number of free kicks and penalties we get will increase.
Teams coming to SMS for a draw need to be pulverised , if we get two up they will be forced to open up and then you will see us scoring for fun.

Had a look at the DV. I feel so much more optimistic now. We have another player who can bring another dimension to our game. More importantly - and I'm remembering Marian Pahars here - is that we now have someone with obvious talent who can take the ball from the centre of the park and run for goal (unlike one Fabrice Fernandez who would zig-zag the whole pitch before ending up where he started from).

I feel good about this signing and - if it works out - then credit must go not just to Pardew - but for those working in the background at Saints who have brought Guly here.

Why so excited/ Do we know that much about him? is it because he is Brazilian? Lets face it why should a good Brazilian player want to play for a English League 1 team who are winning nothing at the moment?

So so negative, if you get a chance look on youtube or similar sites, I have seen a couple and he has quite a decent shot on him, one way to beat these "park the bus" systems is to be able to hit shots from distance, and on target. Don't expect too much too fast, and it would help confidence if you didn't jeer and boo when things are going wrong, get behind the side, they need your support, not your negativity.

I think you have a good point because there's no point in AP changing things around with 10 mins to go when we should have had one of Deano or Spider off sooner. Deano normally gets forward a lot more so maybe he is lacking a bit of form. Punch would do better to control things in front of Spider in the middle...he's too predictable now on the right as he has no right foot! Alex can still be a good change late on in games with his pace but we need to start getting a couple of goals ahead in games before he's thrown on...

What was informative about the youtube clips was his ability to keep long range shots LOW. Gerrard is about the only player I see regularly that has this ability and don't we all love him.

As much as I like Dean Hammond, I have felt that he is happier defending the mid field and that his game has suffered because he tries to get forward too often and gets lost, with this new guy, from what I have read, he is very much attack minded and has some pace with it!! time will tell

Eagle are you mad? Hammond is good and has only suffered because of getting forward so much (which has already been said).

Got to agree with Tugboat about this signing though although rather than vierra I don't think we ever (ever ever) replaced Ronnie Ecklund. We need a bit of that direct drive again, no fancy work just pace and threat.

Got to agree with Tugboat about this signing though although rather than vierra I don't think we ever (ever ever) replaced Ronnie Ecklund. We need a bit of that direct drive again, no fancy work just pace and threat.
Since Pardew arrived he has signed Trotman, Seaborne, Otsemobor, Antonio, Papa, Hammond and Harding, none of whom would get into his current first eleven. Giving money to Pardew = waste!
Trotman - Loan
Seaborne - Exeter staff think he's a future star and cost a little over 100K.
Otsemobor - Short term cover
Ants - Loan and contributed to a cup win
Papa - Loan and contributed to a cup win
Hammond - Fantastic business for 250K
Harding - One of the best free transfers I remember

As I said - Are you mad?

Sorry david crook, but yes----its early days, dont even think about judging any side after two games in the league. Just keep the faith, do you honestly believe in your widest dreams that carlisle will be sitting on top of the pile at the end of the season-now way-bet they.ve all got nose bleeds, they.ll be mid table at best.

Like the bit on BBC interview where AP mentions a further signing. Also enjoyed watching clips of Du Prado..seems that he can take free kicks, passes well and can score from midfield. Hope he can settle in League 1...let's keep off his back and give him a chance.

Yes, Carlisle might be top of the league but then so were Blackpool for a few hours 9 days ago. Of course it's early days.
I think most of us last season said 'lets judge after 10,then 20 games' and the same applies today.
I certainly don't see Guly as a replacement for Hammond except in emergencies. Hammond likes the midfield whereas Guly gives the distinct impression that he loves going forward whenever possible. In other words, exciting, not a word that describes a hardworking, disrupti
ve midfielder like Hammond. Some people on here don't believe that he's dominant enough and are calling for such a signing. Whilst I don't agree with them I have a feeling that there might yet be another player coming in.
After all Pards keeps saying so.

Don't take this the wrong way lude, but I KNOW that sfc are dropping another league this year, and I am so sad to see people wasting their hopes on a gravy-train of transfer commissions..
They didn't pick on a London team cos the press up there wouldn't allow the asset-stripping to go unchallenged.

Fortunately I'm pretty sure that we will adopt the ' slowly slowly catchee monkey' philosophy and build over the years a TEAM and CLUB that we love and can afford and have the RESPECT of football fans the world over.

What is your problem Jasper7?

Has someone at SFC nicked your carrot.

You must be either on the wrong tablets or just taking the p*ss.

How can anyone asset strip, their own assets?

In case you forgot we were a little bit broke 15 months ago, the stadium was owned by the banks, that is not the case now thanks to one man, who's family will continue to build a team that their father and brother wanted.

I suggest you crawl back under Ampfield rock and stop be so silly, hopefully your mum might send you bed now.

Time and time again we lose the center of the pitch, sometimes because we play too wide. One reason why would be instructions, another would be players not in sync. I thought we started to play well when Puncheon dropped deeper and more central, a bit more time on the ball and he can pass well.
Some changes in tactics are just round the corner, sometimes 442 works, some it don't. I do hope that after his display on Saturday Barnard stays in the team, I get the feeling that he could really start hitting a purple patch this season.

You must be pretty niave if you think that Alan Pardew was not involved with the signing of this player, I believe that this signing has been on the cards for awhile now, Alan Pardew has been hinting for some time now that there will be two new signings and it is is pretty obvious to the fans as well as Alan Pardew where the team needs strengthening and as has been repoted in the Echo quit recently that he is biding his time to pick up what he thinks will improve the team.

PS when has Nicola Cortese poked his oar in on team matters?

He (Waigo) may not have been consistant enough for you, but I was sat there on a cold and rainy Tuesday night, losing 2-0 to Torquay. Papa came on, and saved us from a humiliating defeat, got us a draw for a penalty shoot-out, which we won. He was consistant enough throughout the rest of that (which you may consider unimportant) competition, and was good enough to play a big part in getting us to Wembley. He upset plenty of opposition defenders, and make us plenty of chances, in both cup and league. If Guly proves to be as good as he Waigo, then he will get my vote, especially on a 5 month "no committment" trial.

Even the Sun has reported that "The South Coast Team" has signed a Brazilian on loan. The press can call us what they like but everyone knows who The South Coast Team is. Southampton has always been THE South Coast Team. The more the press do it the more ridiculous they look. Maybe we are isolated in this decision to syndicate our own photographs. But its not unusual in Corporate businesses, and Saints are of that scale.

Well done Pards, lets hope that this player does the business and we can sign him, plus a couple more, and get the h*ll out of this division !!

Best of luck against Bolton boys. That is a tough team. A result against them will be a major announcement that The South Coast Team mean business.
