Saints won't be taking the Michail

MICHAIL ANTONIO MICHAIL ANTONIO

SAINTS boss Alan Pardew has ruled out a move for former loan star Michail Antonio.

The 20-year-old Reading winger made a name for himself during a seven-month spell at St Mary’s last season.

Towards the end of the campaign, Saints had looked set to bring Antonio to the club on a permanent basis.

However, with his contract about to run out, the Royals took up an option to automatically extend his deal by a year.

Manager Brian McDermott has brought him into the first-team fold at the Madejski Stadium and, since then, the trail has gone cold for Saints.

Pardew is keen to add a new winger to his squad before the transfer window closes next Tuesday.

But the manager revealed yesterday that he would not be pursuing Antonio.

Shame, but at least we can all forget about it...or can we? What about all those look-a-likes running around IKEA and SMS? Can we sign one of them?

Basically Reading got greedy and thought that we would stump up a large amount of dosh for an average, but with potential, player. Not only have we called their bluff but he will also be a free agent next summer. If he enjoyed his time at sms as much as he said he did then he'll be back to join us in the championship, hopefully as a better player.

What Reading did made good business sense. We would probably have done the same (knowing how sharp NC is). However we didn't rise to the bait, which would suggest that AP/NC didn't rate him that highly or they hoped to do better. We'll only know at the end of the season if that was a correct decision.

With care and gradually being introduced, I believe Chamberlain shows more potential than Antonio.

Whats the betting that tomorrow evening after the match we will be moaning about how he would have won us the game ????

I think that is exactly why they didn't pursue Antonio...it would have been different if we could get him on a free but with Alex showing a lot of promise on the right it didn't make sense to pay out a large sum of money. AP probably sees a bigger forward as more of a priority...someone in the mould of Ricky who can give us something different upfront...or someone with a lot of pace!

i'm glad we have heard it from the horses mouth now, lets leave that in our past and move forward. Alex OC is our future and i think he will be better than Theo, Gareth, Chris etc!
2 signings needed, old Ian Harte and this lad from the scouse and then we are sorted!!

No they didn't - he returned to them a far better playey for his run of first team experience with us, and they exercised their right to extend his contract as they have a place for him in their side. That's the point of loaning out young players. We'd have done exactly the same. It isn't greedy, it's just how football works.

Keep yer hair on mush, everyones entitled to an opinion ffs.
There is no disputing that he went back a better player, but he was still average. From what I saw of him he was normally in the right place at the right time and scored a couple of goals. As has been said oxo is a better bet long term. Reading were holding out for an over inflated price 'cos like most other clubs they know that we have a bit of money now, and that is also how footbal works, strangely enough!

My next door neighbours, second cousin, just saw him in McDonalds, telling anyone who'll listen not to believe what you hear, and that he will be signing for us.

He was then seen walking hand in hand with NC, who was heard to say, glad to have you home.

Sweet!

I think they'd make a nice couple!

Not as ludicrous as some of the recent sightings, the one about Ant and NC being heard to say, welcome home son, good to be home, dad, in the lobby at sms by the cleaner, or some other fictitious person had me laughing yesterday.

These people must have really dull jobs, if all they do is come on here and make up bs.

I know I have!

I know Michael personally and played with him at Tooting&Mitcham, I was told that he isn't coming back, not because he didn't like the club but because he thought he'd get guaranteed first team football at Reading or elsewhere rather than be stuck behind Jason Puncheon. I don't blame him he's young and still trying to make a name for himself as he's only recently become a professional, on a short contract and without first team football he could end up in the Conferance or even back in the Ryman in a few years time.
