SAINTS manager Nigel Adkins has hailed Adam Lallana as the best player in the Championship.

The St Mary’s boss made the declaration in the aftermath of his side’s 4-0 demolition of Derby, in which Lallana starred.

The left-sided midfielder was at his magical best against the Rams, dazzling the visitors throughout with his wizardry.

Of his many sparkling moments, none was better than his sublime side-footed volley for Saints’ third goal.

“It was an outstanding goal from Adam Lallana,” said Adkins. “One word sums him up – class.

“For me he is the best player in the league. He is top drawer.”
