Nigel Adkins was staying calm as Saints took another step towards the Premier League with victory over Crystal Palace.
A brace from Rickie Lambert took his tally for the campaign to 30 and ensured Saints remained comfortably ensconced within the top two.
Adkins said: “All the players are valuable to us and Rickie Lambert has 30 now.
“The first goal we scored I was delighted with because it is something we’d talked about and we’d worked on.
“We wanted to change the play and from the throw in we changed it, we got Danny Butterfield in a good position and he’s got good crossing ability.
“We thought if we got Rickie against the small full back Clyne at the far post we’d have a little bit of joy and we did so we were pleased with that goal.”
Speaking of the 6,000 Saints supporters who cheered on the team at Selhurst Park he added: “The supporters were great.
“We were on the bus coming in and they were outside the pubs singing and it put the hairs on the back of your neck standing up. It was brilliant.”

One game at a time I know and a win against Reading, plus a decent result at Posh would all but guarantee our fate...especially the way West Ham are dealing with the pressure!

Reading is our Cup Final we must simply perform to our max and take tham apart. Professional and the result will follow. No more "wonder strikes" this season at SMS, unless Rickie scores a special!

If West Ham match stays as is, and there is no swing in our superior goal difference, I make it that we need 5 points from a possible 12 for promotion? Lets win' em all to be sure.

are always hard to predict. Palace have quite a good record at home this was only their 4th defeat and we are the first top 6 team to win there.
The race to the premiership is there to be won. We can only lose it, it is all in our hands. Every game is tough, and Reading like us know a win on friday for either is almost home. They are coming like a steam train just as we did the tail end of last season. To be honest it will be edge of the seat stuff.
If WH lose today we need 5 points from 12.

I always felt 4 pts from the weekends fixtures would be a good outcome. Local matches

Praying that Brighton do us a favour tomorrow night and send Reading packing. Wet Spam could only draw. More and more likely a playoff place for them. Come on the Saints make it a Friday night to remember.

Lets turn round tv voodoos!(I suppose a draw will be acceptable)- but Reading are the in -form team-But we are at HOME! We should not underestistmate the crowds influence like today- 12th man on the pitch - Adkins was praising the support!! We need to play to win not sit back too deep, and be quicker to the ball in midfield than against the skates. 2 more wins 1 draw and I see us in prem i reckon. But lets try win them all! COYR! Great win to day. Now we have to focus on Reading on Friday night. This is going to be some game. Possibly the biggest ever game at St Mary's. I think it will be a tight match. But we will come out on top. I think this could be a game in which our big Dutchman finds the net.

They play Reading Tuesday then go to Wet Spam on Saturday and they need the points as much as those two teams do.
They could be our new best friends, in a platonic sort of way.

G'day to yous all......yes I can reveal my true identity now - I am actually a Pom down under in Perth. Sunny here all the time - and now its sunny in Southampton all the time too. The last time I had such a great feeling was at Wembley in 1976 (I was there as Max Boyce would say). I was also at Wembley in 1978 - lost to Forest 3-2. Interesting piece of trivia, Saints scorers an that day (Peach & Holmes) were the ONLY two surving players from the 1976 FA Cup final. This season has been nothing short of fan-bluudy-tastic; I only wish I could be there to savour it all. Will there be another street parade as there was in 1976? I want to add my thanks to NC & Saint Marcus for rescuing our club. It wouldn't surprise me if NC and teh Leibhers have even bigger plans for the club. How about being a genuine threat to the north England and London dominance of the EPL; and not just 'another' EPL struggling side. Lets' aim as high as we can - put another deck on the SMS and lift the crowd potential to 60,000....why not? Onwards and Upwards.
But don't be over optimistic about what the club will spend if we are promoted. The buying record to date doesn't say they will go overboard.
The personal loans Markus and family made to the club have been converted into shares which could indicate they are willing to borrow from the bank to fund spending on players. The net worth of the holding company which owns Saints will have increased with the loans off the balance sheet so the banks would lend the holding company money and there would be no need for the family to fund the club personally.
Assuming we make it to the Prem, the team could then consolidate it itself in the bottom half of the league like Norwich giving the Liebhers the option to sell it and make a profit on their original investment. Buyers would know they had £50M in parachute payments to come in the event of relegation back to the Championship.
I am not saying this likely to happen I am saying it is an option for the owners. It depends on how much they like football versus how much they like profit (a return on their investment). Who knows? Just an alternative thought.

it was hard to listen to the commentary as the noise from the saints fans was immense, it was coming across on the radio so loud and clear it was like actually being there.
Well done to all those who went!
Now lets repeat it at SMS on friday night to scare the S**t out of Reading and secure 3 points

On a serious note for Friday's game I think it would be excellent if we could arrange a great show of thanks for Markus's family and our Chairman Nicola. Obviously Nigel and the team have done a fantastic job bringing us to the verge of promotion but IMHO none of this would have been possible without the financial support and our Chairman's wise council. I was very dismayed to hear rumours in the press that the club might be sold to a group of venture capital funds and frankly one of the biggest threats to our medium term development is that the family should sell us and Nicola move on.
Time to stand up and give thanks I think.
