I think that the echo get's a bit carried away with its reporting.A player transferred to Southampton from a Championship side,for an alleged 7m,though some reports say less,is now tipped to play for England.He has not played one minute for Saints and nor he has he played in the Premier League.
If he is a future England player
I am sure any one of PL sides closer to Burnely would have picked him up by now and probably for a lot more money.
Let's wait and see.

Farawaysaint, I can't see it being a coincidence that we've beaten European placed teams to his signature and him being bad! I trusted Pardew when he was down here, he was interested in him. I heard Spurs were taking a look at him (nothing official just rumors in the air) which if that is true, going by past targets it would've only been a matter of time before Arsenal would b interested in him. U make a good point in saying not played in the Prem but every player that plays there was once a player that had never played there in 1 way or another, I can't see Everton fans saying Rooney was going to b **** cos he's 17 and never played for the 1st team before, nor can I imagine Spurs fans saying Berbatov was gonna be **** cos he had only played in the German leagues before joining them. (Don't know why I choose 2 Man Utd players now but they happened to be the 1st 2 players to pop into my head) I'm sure he will be a hit and people like yourself who seem to have even the remotest doubt will be eating their words come mid next season (I say that with the greatest of respect to u.) Either way we all sing from the same hymn sheet and will be cheering his name a fair few times next season

I have never heard of his "advisor" Akinbiyi (why not use the word "Agent") and I really don't give a fig for his opinion. I could probably get a more informed unbiased opinion from my cat. Shrewd beast my cat !!

I have only seen JR a couple of times, the rest was on telly. I can't really judge objectively but if NA and NC rate him thats good enough for me as it's their heads on the block not mine.

I'm not sure we've signed him as an out-and-out striker.
I get the feeling he might be used on the right of either a front three, or as a winger as someone above mentioned, like we have Adam on the left.
I still think in home games, against teams around us in particular,in our starting team we'll use Sir Ricky playing in the hole off of Sharp(in the Le Tiss position), Adam and JR on the sides, and having Tad Lee as an option to replace Billy for last 25 mins.
With that list of players, we can change things around, give people a rest etc( Lambert have a game off, move JR to his position, slide Tad Lee as a winger etc..) Lot's of exciting possibilities.
Good that we've kept Chaplow-hope he can refind his form.
Just need some extra defenders, back up keeper and I'd say one more classy attacking midfielder to give us further variety in our play.

Let's just hope he is as good as his mentor :) I recall one game at Filbert Street where we won 4-0 - Anders was fantastic and Akinbiyi had a cracking game for Saints.

In all honesty though I think this just puts unnecessary pressure on the lad who i'm sure will be great up front with Lambo

Changing the subject I have read that we are making a bid for Butland. I wonder if our manager and Chairman along with a medical team are going to fly out Poland and seal the deal. I would not put it passed them to do that. We have been linked with two or three Bosman players. However this means that we can not sign these players until a minute passed mid night on the 1st of July. We have been linked with both Danny Guthrie and Craig Gordon. I see Wet pam have put in a bid for Jarvis, 4 million quoted, I am sure we could match that. Wet Pam are 80 million in the red, so they will be buying cheap.

I can't believe your post. This player (from what I have seen) looks the real deal. There were quite a few Premier League clubs looking at him. Surely you must know something about this player as most supporters I know have a knowledge of how highly rated he is, even if they are supporters of PL teams, they have heard of Rodriguez and think this is a great signing.

I love this....

Akinbiyi was (and I use the term very loosly) a striker, he played for Leicester (although Leicester fans may dispute that)!

He was a big money signing for Leicester when Peter Taylor was in charge, I think it is fair to say that it never really worked out!!

But, he is propbably well placed to give good advice to Roriguez as he knows how difficult playing at the top flight after a big money move can be.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing your cat next year. I am sure Harry Redknapp will be looking to sign him for his new club, now Totenham have found him out to be a pretend manager who learned his trade through Football Manager on the ZX Spectrum 48k...

I am reportedly asking £10 million based on the additional rat catching last year, which earned him a Christmas present from the neighbours.
They have reportedly said he has international potential and that other buyers are queuing up with bids.

If 7m is about right then Jay is one of the most expensive signings from the Championship. 7m is what Bale ended up costing Spurs.

I am not saying that because we paid that much we can expect bids from Barca to start coming in but on the other hand if he doesn’t prove to be a Premiership Regular then it will be a massive mistake by Cortese.

I don’t think Cortese has made any massive mistakes yet...so fingers crossed :)

Prices have inflated further from when we sold Bale for 7m, so I'm not sure it's fair to compare the two fees...
Also, Bale was17, with limited experience, whereas J-Rod has done his apprenticeship, and clearly ready for the move up.

everyone's missing the point about JR's reported £7m fee and not having pl experience. Last season a relatively unknown 17 year old with no prem league experience was bought from Saints for £12m. He will soon be a regular for Arsenal & is now at euro 2012 playing for England. His name Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. We have a lot of good players in our team that have no experience of the Prem league, and that is so gonna be to our advantage. can't wait for the season to start. COYR's

It was good to see JR has signed for us. BUT ... the big news today has surely been the emergence of Alicescat as THE big news item. He's a star and what's more the tabloids haven't got a single picture of him. As his advisor I follow NCs example and retain all photo rights and have banned the Sun photographer from our secret hideaway.

There hasn't been such a buzz on here since we got promoted.

Experience of winning is much more relevant, an abundance of real talent is also important. an agent who can big up his player is not really needed, we can watch any player on youtube and make our own mind up !
Jelavic had no premier league experience, he seems to have done quite well !
Most of the Norwich and Swansea players had no Premier league experience and they done quite well too !
A player is only worth what someone will pay for them, Wetspam paid £1.5m for Maynard who hardly got a game and is being touted around as a makeweight so they can buy another striker ! They already have CCole who has premier league experience, how many did he score in the championship ?
Is Alicecat a striker or a goalie?
We do need another goalie, or can he play in midfield as an enforcer?

I have been trying to teach my cat to play with a ball, but his skills going forward are not too good. He is much better at stopping the ball, so perhaps he could be a future goalie? He is a bit old for the academy, but they seem to work wonders. I am awaiting a call from NA & NC and a trial game.

Just been reading The Birmingham News, rumours are that Saints are interested in Jack Butland and all their readers are getting hot under the collar and slating us as a bunch of no hopers destined to be relegated before a ball is even kicked.

Checking the Brum News and Post.. they are just reporting the unsourced rumour of Butlands possible move speculating on the money... instalment plan or 3.5m they say. A few fans in their threads are saying they don't want to lose him. All the papers report news when they can get it and of course print the odd pot stirrer to stir sales.. I am hoping we have come through the Cortese baiting stage though. I'll be pleased if the rift is past. The club is back in the prem after three seasons... two year ahead of schedule.. I’m enjoying the Euros here in Oz, but sadly I feel it will be diluted by the expansion to 24 teams next time.
Here’s a few of my random thoughts so far:
Same old Oranje egos but with no Dutch Courage.
Arsenal has beens Arshavin and Bendtner have looked dangerous but golden boy Van Pussie? – see above.
Gomez looks a lively goal scorer again but what could he do against a Chelsea back 10, Come on England. This is our year against them on penalties.
Russia vs Poland looks as an intense outside the ground as a Saints vs Skunts game.
I had the Russian Dzagoev in my dream team from day 1 ..... did you?

Panic over..the news story in the Echo was NOT about Alicescat. Looks like him though but the real Alicescat is a bit older than the one in the picture. Anyway, he's far too busy at the moment in discussions with NC about his new role at St Marys.

NA has asked to see him play down at the training ground today.. but like most cats he simply can't be ar$ed to turn up unless he feels like it. In any event they havent got a shirt that fits him yet. All in good time though.

In the absence of any new stories today, Alicescat remains the hottest story on the site at the moment. I see Harry Brownpaperbag quit Spurs as soon as he heard that Alicescat would make mincement of his dog. Shrewd move Harry but my cat is far more interesting and.. more importantly ... has no bank account.

Sounds ridiculous, I think the Euro's tounament is ideal as it is coz you still get games like Greece Vs Poland where the standard is pretty poor but still entertaining. It was dire, I remember it well. It was a truly boring system back then and it will be again. . It bores the fans. It's too many teams to have for for such a tournament. It also means that teams like Wales and Scotland have more chance to qualify. You have to ask .. is that a good thing?

Should have got him when he first left Rangers and taught him the Saints way. Too late now and he wouldn't fit with what we already have.
Liverpool have used him the wrong way, something they have done with most of last seasons signings, the best thing to happen was Rodgers who will make them all play his way or get out.

Nigel does prefer younger players, that is good, but of course experience is always needed to help them progress. Good experience is the key though, we do not need players who are used to losing.

I know to many this may be old news . But via the Daily mail web site I read that Saints are going to sign Upson drom Stoke City. The article said that because Robert Huth had signed a new contract, Upson's First team chances are going to be limited. It was suggested that the fee was going to be around the half a million mark. It would be better if we discussed footie on this site rather that Alice's Dads cat. It shows the news is drying up at the moment. I have a feeling that the closer we get to pre-season training things will start moving on the transfer front. Now that Eire have been dumped out of the Euro's , we might go for an unamed Eire international !

It is rumoured (allegedly) that your cat is now worth £8m & will be a big hit in the Premier League. He is allegedly rumoured to be a close season target for Spurs, Liverpool & Newcastle. A source close to the cat reportedly said 'He is the biggest feline prospect in football. His close control & ball skills are excellent. He always lands on his feet, has great pace & a mean body swerve'. Watch this space.

And with 9 lives the cat has to be a good long term prospect!

I think a more likely signing is Dave Blake he has been spotted in a taxi outside Saint Mary's and has gone on record as stating his admiration for Spider and Fonte. If this falls through, I think Saints may make enquiries about Peter Fielder, with Martin out on loan, he could be the squad that we need. COYR WE ARE THE RED ARMY
