Büttner move now down to Saints, claims agent
5:40am Wednesday 11th July 2012 in Saints News
By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter
Alexander Büttner
ALEXANDER Büttner’s proposed transfer to Saints still remains alive, according to the player’s agent.
Vitesse Arnhem announced yesterday that a deal for the full-back had become “uncertain”.
The Dutch side, who have already agreed a fee with Saints, cited demands made by a third party as the reason for Büttner’s move verging on collapse.
However, the 23-year-old’s representative, Aleksandar Bursac, had not given up hope yesterday that the transfer would still go ahead.
“There was an issue, and I think that one has been resolved,” he said.
Bursac added his belief that it is now up to Saints whether the move proceeds.
“The boy himself wants to come to Southampton and I don’t foresee any issues unless Southampton pull the plug,” he said.
Neither Vitesse nor Bursac would reveal what the stumbling block has been or who the “third party” is.
The Eredivisie outfit did confirm, though, that Saints had acted properly throughout and were not to blame for the move stalling.
Both clubs had agreed a fee – thought to be about £3m – last Friday.

So, basically, we've signed 1 player.
Reading are much further down the road than Saints in terms of improving their squad.

This is neither a defense or a judgement of his statements, just some info on what the Norwegian papers wrote.
What he said was there was never an issue to fix a score or anything like that, but the minor things, like who gets the first throw in, and such. He describes it like a funny thing to do, but of course they also did it to make money. Illegal and immoral, no doubt, but still not as bad as to fix a score.

I'm really surprised with NC and NA for their slowness in strengthening the team for the coming season seeing as our first friendly is in 3 days. Others are far more ahead. I hope they are not a coalition with plenty of promises but little inaction especially as the premiership is a very different ball game needing different management skills, and whether we like it or not spending resources (beyond the 40m) and negotiating skills. I'm feeling decidedly uncomfortable about where we are in the new player purchase. At first I wondered in disbelief why NA is favourite to loose his job during the next season, but now I'm not so sure. He has excellent management skills and knowledge of players in the lower divisions but may struggle in the Premier. I really hope I'm wrong but what is happening in the new player purchase does not inspire me.

"We could make deals with the opposing captain about, for example, betting on the first throw, the first corner, who started with the ball, a yellow card or a penalty."
The last word being penalty, tells you this wasn't just "fun".
If you are betting on when penalties will occur, then you WILL be influencing results, one way or another.
I have been at many games when we have conceded penalties and have been left with the question "Why did he do that when it was not necessary?"
Maybe the answer has now been provided.

Did Derby have the likes of Lallana, Lambert, Sneiderlain, Cork to name just a few. We have some very good and promising players in our mix and they all love playing for Southampton! I admit a few additions are needed but blo0dy hell mate, try and cheer up a bit and put a little trust Cortese's way. Since him and the great Markus came in, have they let us down yet?? Saints problems obviously stem from a lack of computers. I have heard from a reliable, anonymous source called George Ch. that Saints were unable to get the credit necessary to buy them. The result is this chaos related to getting new players in. I demand (or should that be I DEMAND) that NC gets this sorted ASAP.
Players will be queuing at the gates to join us after that.

I see that Birmingham have signed a goal keeper today, so does that mean Butland is in the shop window. Spurs are now after the French goal keeper. Rumour has it that Spurs are considering our offer for Kyle Naughton. Once again a possible quality signing. I really don't know if the Buttner deal will go through. Along with the torch coming on Saturday to St Marys, as has happened in the past new players may be presented to the fans on Saturday.
My final word goes to the moaners, go and take a run and jump into the Solent as you are like a wet Summer in that town down the M27 which is not worth wasting energy mentioning the name. A life long Saint who does not have to use four letter words to make a valid point.

Nigel has done very well for us and I am very pleased with his efforts. But I wouldn't say some of his acquisitions are great, i.e. Fox and De Ridder. They have done a job but even for the Championship considering the number of starts and the quality of their performances and the money we paid for them, I wouldn't consider them to be good value for money because they are never going to cut in the PL.
And Forte, very poor. So it does concern me we aren't further forward in enhancing the squad and it also concerns me, given Nigel's track record how good future signings will be.
I look forward to some quality short term signings (2-3 weeks)
who will give us a decent chance of finishing say 15th in the PL.

chunkyrussell wrote:Yep. That's the size of it. With the friendlies starting in 3 days time. Annoying isn't it. And we need at least another 4. Let's hope they sort it out during the next two weeks. The thought of going into the PL with one goalkeeper and the three CD's we currently have frightens me to death. Especially looking at our first 4 games where it will be difficult for us to pick up 4 points from a possible 12.
So, basically, we've signed 1 player.
Reading are much further down the road than Saints in terms of improving their squad.
Quick action is required.
I would prefer no new signings than the wrong ones, or ones at the wrong price etc.
Let's just keep calm and see what unfolds.
That aside, I assume you'll be a happy bunny if the club spends, spends, spends in the hope that some make the grade. On that basis, prepare to either:
1) pay three, four or who-knows-what more for your tickets, or
2) watch the club die a la Poopey.
I for one would prefer wise investment, as and when the right player(s) become(s) available.
As for who is able to say if they're good or bad signings until they play, well, I can't, but I can trust NA who, contrary to what you say, generally gets these things right.......... Cork, Jos, Billy, Lee ......

St Retford wrote:Very well said.
George, you worry too much about something you have literally no control over. Have you seen The Lion King? You should have a little dance around your front room singing "Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze / It means no worries for the rest of your days / It's our problem-free philosophy," and then have a lovely imaginary adventure with a warthog and a meerkat.
(I think it's a meercat, anyway.)
In my song "I'm so in love I sh!t myself" I had these hopeful lines:
"Things will be at least little bit better when cannibals start using a knife and fork" and "In really sh!te times like this, don't forget there's always been really sh!te times like this" - plus "No-one would ever spit in your lovely face darlin' unless your moustache was on fire."
Even someone like you with gigantic musical knowledge won't have heard this song as it was never recorded. All the studios told me the melody wasn't quite good enough.
I've sent the lyrics to tunesmith Elton John, but haven't heard anything yet.
It now reads "Things will be at least a little bit better now my cannabis has started to burn."
Or perhaps you are just smoking dope.
P.S. If I didn't worry about SFC I wouldn't spend £1500 per season going to matches.
However, I do quite like the act of rolling and preparing a 'bifter', so as a substitute for cannabis I've developed a debilitating addiction to crispy duck pancakes.

and we can be up to speed before our tough start to the season. I am frustrated by our slowness in the market. I am very pleased with what NA and NC have done so far for our club. But I don't have the blind faith in them that some people have.
Cork, Jos, Billy and Lee were all good in the Championship. But only time will tell if they can do the same in the P.L. I would say 2 out of the 4 won't make the grade over, say, two seasons. Probably Cork and Jos. (not quick enough).
I would welcome Steven Davies, from what I can remember of him with Fulham and Villa he would improve our midfield and has obvious leadership qualities.
I think if we wait too long to buy players in we will pay a hefty price:relegation. The PL is not the Championship. We were never going to go down from the Championship. In the PL our current squad including Rodriguez is bottom six quality.
We need to improve it ASAP to get us out of that dog fight.

As a fan, we support & trust that the right decisions will be made.
NC & NA haven't done too bad so far I think, so relax & enjoy that Premiership feeling, then get ready to sing your hearts out next month!
I have to add that I am in a very good "relaxed" mood this afternoon having just been offered a job after 7 weeks back in the country - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time for another drink, methinks!

Oh, and a sensible response, too; saved me from saying it.
Now, time to watch the Tour de France highlights and see which French cyclists are spot-fixing their way to last place! Seeing a Brit in the yellow jersey is a real shot in the arm! Come on Bradders, do it for Britain.

So 3 days to go before we start our friendlies, 1 player signed (centre forward to go with the others)! No back up goalie, fack up with season tickets and enough dead wood for bonfire night for ten years. Fail to plan, plan to fail! And there was me thinking cortese was a shrewd business man.

I see people are still in panic mode. Davis deal will be fine. Buttner deal is up to Saints, it is nothing to do with the player wanting more money, its strangely enough his Dad who believes he's owed money from the deal. I still reckon it will go through.
No need to panic, I am sure everything is under control.
On the Claus situation, not the brightest thing he's ever done. Hopefully that will blow over...eventually.
You have to be joking where did you get that from. It is far more likely to be a former club wanting a cut of the fee or a former agent.
Buttner himself wants to come my son a saints fan met him in London and they are now friends on facebook. Alex Buttner is desperate for this deal to go through.

I was hoping to have new players in and gelling together for pre-season friendlies, but nothing straight forward as a saints fan.
I don't mind going after the bigger better deal (cheaper in cortese's case) but I'm getting a feeling of false economy.
It's obvious that players will not want to leave as we are now prem league but off load em and get in what we need and that is a goalie, Center half and a no sh1t taking Mohammed I'm ard Bruce Lee Center midfielder. It ain't rocket science.

By all means speak your mind but leave out the ballocks whereby you claim to be positive. it just doesn't wash. You're as pessimistic as it's possible to be.
