ALEXANDER Büttner’s proposed transfer to Saints still remains alive, according to the player’s agent.

Vitesse Arnhem announced yesterday that a deal for the full-back had become “uncertain”.

The Dutch side, who have already agreed a fee with Saints, cited demands made by a third party as the reason for Büttner’s move verging on collapse.

However, the 23-year-old’s representative, Aleksandar Bursac, had not given up hope yesterday that the transfer would still go ahead.

“There was an issue, and I think that one has been resolved,” he said.

Bursac added his belief that it is now up to Saints whether the move proceeds.

“The boy himself wants to come to Southampton and I don’t foresee any issues unless Southampton pull the plug,” he said.

Neither Vitesse nor Bursac would reveal what the stumbling block has been or who the “third party” is.

The Eredivisie outfit did confirm, though, that Saints had acted properly throughout and were not to blame for the move stalling.

Both clubs had agreed a fee – thought to be about £3m – last Friday.
