Saints have reached an agreement with Rangers over the transfer of midfielder Steven Davis, the club have announced.
The 27-year-old left the Glasgow giants earlier this summer, before signing a three-year deal at St Mary's.
Davis had claimed he was a free agent following the news that 'oldco' Rangers had been consigned to liquidation.
However, that was disputed by 'newco' chief executive Charles Green, who had bought the club's assets.
Because of his stance, the Scottish FA were unable to issue an international transfer certificate for Davis, as well as a number of his former teammates who found themselves in similar positions.
But Saints have now reached a compensation agreement with Rangers, allowing the transfer to be officially completed immediately, without the need to proceed with an application to world governing body FIFA for temporary clearance.
The club have also revealed that, as a result of the deal, Davis' contract will now run for an extra season, until 2016.
