  • "Many Prem Teams were wanting to get him so he must be good but it was interesting to read comments on Sky, a few thought Clyne had made a wrong decision to join up with a small Club, I hope these people choke on there Cornflakes if Saints are in the top 6 at Chrismas, others put he is a very good Player and Saints are lucky he signed for them, I think NA and NC have a vision, they want Southampton to be a world known Club like ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea etc, I've supported Saints for 40 years and have never known such enthusiasm and ambition, it also shows with comments in the echo that those who support Saints see the same, let's hope Saints have a more than expected good season andwish them good luck to surprise the doubters"

Clyne fee agreed

Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana battle it out Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana battle it out

Saints have avoided the need for a tribunal by agreeing a fee with Crystal Palace for Nathaniel Clyne.

Palace had accused Saints of 'taking the mick' with their offer for the right back, and it seemed set that an independent panel would decide on the compensation to be paid.

However, the clubs have now reached an agreement on a fee, believed to be around £2m.

Meanwhile, the club's academy has been awarded Category One status as part of the new Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).
