Southampton agree deal for Emmanuel Mayuka from BSC Young Boys
10:46pm Tuesday 28th August 2012 in Saints News
By Dan Kerins, Digital Editor
Zambian forward Emmanuel Mayuka
Saints have agreed a deal for Zambian forward Emmanuel Mayuka from Swiss side BSC Young Boys.
The 21-year-old plays for the national side, scoring 10 goals in 38 appearances, and has scored 18 league goals for Swiss side Young Boys since joining them in 2010.
Nigel Adkins has described Mayuka as "a lightning-quick striker who will bring something different to the group that we already have."
He will wear the number 24 shirt once the deal has been finalised and it is hoped he will be available for the match on Sunday against Manchester United.
The striker passed a medical today at St. Mary's and is now awaiting final clearance for the deal from the Home Office.
He has agreed a five-year deal with Saints and was part of the Zambian team that won the African Nations Cup.

Competition in the squad is great but I think if Gaston is coming in too, there may be too much of it. It seems as though Emmanuel has come in to do the role Tadanari Lee is supposed to be filling in his return? I don't get what NA is thinking in this deal but hopefully he has his mind on the other end of the pitch too.

Make no mistake, this guy would have given us that bit of pace and skill that could make a huge difference. The thought of him and Tad Lee, who looks good on his recovery, in the same team is superb.
I am really pleased with this signing, complete surprise but make no mistake, if he plays like he did during the ACN then we will have one superb player!

NC strikes me as a very hard nosed business man with little or no room for sentiment. For this reason if NC does not see Rickie Lambert being part of the medium to long term plan then it would make sound business sense to "cash in" whilst RL's stock is high. However if RL wishes to stay then I think he has more than earned the right to remain at St Marys and fight to earn his place in the team.
I am sure item 1 on the agenda is survival in the Premiership this season and throughout the posts from those supporters who are able to attend matches there is a common concern about the defence. The foundation of all of the great teams of the past has been a solid defence and I wait, not a little nervously, with great anticipation over the next couple of days to see how the defensive frailties are addressed.

Like Bob, I will reserve judgment for now, but I did watch a little of the ACN and he was one of several Zambians who looked very good.
One thing to remember, the ACN comes around every two years and top clubs have to make do without for a few weeks. So, once he's settled in, he'll probably hold down a regular starting spot, but in early 2013 (early this time to fit in with the World Cup), we'll lose him for a time.
A question: Is this one down to Jaidi's charm? If so, big fella (no, not THAT one), I salute you.

Saturdays' game showed what pace can do.
Both Wigans goals were that evidence.
Some saying on here that we have too many forwards, sorry, you can't have enough!
It is a long season, every game will be a cup final.
Injuries and lost form will inevitably come.
Goals win games.
Now that said the best teams have the best defenses, the back bone of the team.
Left back and Centre back are a major worry to Saints future in this league.
I also have complete faith in this management team to put that right this week.
Then we will be cooking.
Great confidence booster, last nights' win.
Should concentrate minds of some of the first team, the more competition for places, the better.
Bring on Man U.

As for Ricky, my heart says I hope he stays as he is a talisman and icon of our return to greatness. BUT My head knows that NC is all about good business and if he gets a strong strike force and can get a top price for Lambert I reckon he will go. Sad but true.
In the meantime I hope he stays and teams up with the 500 attacking combination options we are building up.

He will definitely bring something different to the likes of Billy Sharp and Ricky Lambert whom I have followed since his time at my local club Bristol Rovers.
He will have to toughen up for the premiership as he is prone the odd trip to the floor but otherwise a very good acqusition for you guys and I think he will only get better under the guidance of Mr Adkins. He is a good learner.
He will score spectacular goals for you that's for sure as he is handy with both feet and head. He can canjur up something out of nothing and a player who can change a game in an instant. A real diamond in the rough IMO.

Couldn't agree more The trouble is there are some supporters who's whole life revolves around a football club, whether it be saints or anyone else.
Most of them probably have the quilt cover, curtains and lampshade and I'm not just talking about the 8 yr olds
Some people need to GET A LIFE

It really does not matter where they live or how many games they go to.
I do have a season ticket now and I had one for many years prior, but due to circumstances (young children) there was a few years where I couldn't afford or get the time to go. But I can assure you I was at as many games I could get to and I was no less emotionally involved due to my absence. When I did go my support and love of the game was as high as ever. Now I do have a season ticket again and it is easy to take it for granted, well I don't.
Southampton will only grow with support. I am really proud that we have supporters across the globe, surely this is a good thing. I have met fans from New Zealand through to the USA and one thing in common is that they are so positive and enjoy every minute of the games they attend.
Everyone is welcome with open arms and hopefully we will attract many more in the coming years, because if there is, it means our club is being successful.
Onward and upwards.

My cousins in Oz come from Southampton and aren't footy fans. In a moment of madness during an extended stay in Hants, one of them spent a few weeks working in Gosport, where she met, fell in love with and, eventually, married ........
....................
......... a skate!!!!! (the shame of it!)
Long ago, he emigrated to Melbourne and, as far as I know, even living with (and amongst) hard-working Sotonians, he's still a work-sky, brain-dead skate. The point is, wherever we end up, whatever way we support our team, some things stay in the blood and remain part of us till we die.
So, next time you're on the train home from Newcastle after watching the Saints, asking yourself if there can possibly be any other Saints fan in history who is or has been as loyal as you and wondering what time you'll get home to bed, think about the ones across the world who got up half way through the night to follow the Saints alone and in the dark.
As for the skate, well, at least he didn't marry his sister!

I have educated many Yanks on "soccer" as the "EPL" has grown in statue here and as we now get EVERY PL game on the telly, most live, a lot of people will now get to see Saints week in week out. That is great for us to increase our fan base.
This weekend, 8 of us will watch the Saints take on Man U, live! 6 are supporting Saints, 4 have already bought this years Saints shirt, those 4 are yanks.
I do my part, a Saints fan for life, even though I live 3500 miles away.
I thought this kind of nasty inbred **** slapping was reserved for that lot down the other end of the M27, thought we were better than all that, clearly some are no better.
Over and out!

He sad listen closely young tongdii and I will tell you.
'Machester United and some other teams fans support their team from birth to death.'
'Liverpool and some other teams fans support their team from the womb to the tomb .'
But a Southampton supporter, supports the Saints from the Erection until the Reserection.

There is nothing better than going abroad and seeing a resident wearing a Southampton top, it feels me with pride knowing that the name of our great club is being shared and supported in all parts of the globe.
Thumbs up to you and enjoy watching at the weekend... Let's all hope we get a result to celebrate!
