Saints defender Maya Yoshida was in the Japan side thumped 4-0 by Brazil in Poland this afternoon.

Yoshida was substituted during the mauling in Wroclaw, with Brazil convincing winners thanks to two goals from Neymar and another from Kaka after midfielder Paulinho had opened the scoring.

Danny Fox and Steven Davis are expected to be in action for Scotland and Northern Ireland later tonight.

I don't think he thought 4 goals conceded was anything unusual.

It's hardly suprising news is it. Brazil are one of the most succesful teams in world football. I think they will take this World Cup by storm. Japan meanwhile are a decent side but lacking in key areas. At least they weren't as bad as China.

So, was Yoshida taken off as he had a yellow and was in danger of getting a red, because he was performing poorly or because he was carrying an injury?

Farcical in Poland, torrential rain and they haven't closed the roof on the Stadium and the game is in doubt.

Yoshida was subbed with about 5 minutes to go. He didn't have a great match overall, a bit outpaced by the Brazilian forwards, but he wasn't useless.
