HAVING signed many experienced players during my time as Saints manager, it is easy for me to understand why Arsene Wenger and Roberto Mancini have brought Sol Campbell and Patrick Vieira back to the Premiership.

READING last Saturday’s Pink, which of course is compulsory for everyone in the area, my attention was drawn to a line-up of very smart young gentlemen, who were Saints’ youth and reserve side of 1980/81.

Until we hear about a deal to buy Saints, Mike Osman and I am getting on with rounding up the 30 or so players needed to put on the celebrity game at St Mary’s next Sunday, May 17 with a kick-off at 12 noon.

THE start of last week saw me having the pleasure of accepting a cheque for £2,200 – but it was not connected with the event later in the week when I was asking, along with others, for money for the football club.

The League Manger’s Association, of which I am a founder member, has thankfully over the years moved on from a situation where they waited for the top table in football to make decisions which were handed down to the managers to implement.

I WAS at a function recently in the House of Lords - it was actually the annual dinner of the Parliamentary football team - and in the room was a good cross section of all parties, all level of MPs and many Lords and Ladies, who all had a common interest and love for the game of football.
