Policing the South Coast derby

So Saints and Pompey get to meet in the next round of the FA Cup.

This is the sort of fixture that fans want; excitement, good football, city rivalry and a chance to show that despite recent problems for both clubs the football heritage in this area is still very strong.

I was glad it was a Saints home draw, not because it favours Southampton (I must maintain police impartiality) but because I genuinely think that it's a great ground for putting on a safe event for everyone. I think of the tens of thousands of fans for whom this will be a great day either at the stadium or around the two cities or watching or listening at home.

I was policing the Ipswich match on Saturday and when the results were in this was the draw I was looking for.

We'll deliver a top class police operation and support both clubs so it's a great day for everyone to be proud of and remember for ages.

We have already had our first planning meetings and there will be lots to do over the next 3 weeks and I will be saying more here and elsewhere about how the work is going.

I hope its not a lunchtime kick-off or something silly. The atmosphere isn't the same- and you can't have a swift half before kick off either!

So I bet it will be...(the Police can't cope otherwise )
But hope not!!

Don't spoil the game Coppers !!

Lets have a Normal 3pm kick off!!!!

im expecting it to be a 12pm kick of on the sunday. The police will not allow a 3pm kick of with these animals comin up and fans drinking before the game , and dont matter what time kick of is , trust me there will be an atmosphere for this one. Last time they were up here the police asked the local pubs in the high street to close but some didnt and the hard core pompey walked from central station through civic direct to the ground surronded by police , riot police, horses , dogs and police vans and this was a 12pm kick of. Plus you will get sum skate fans who may get of at st.denys, bitterne rail stations like last time. And ITV are bound to screen it live on police permission. But what ever the time kick of we will be there and the atmopshere will be electric, and thats if the police give saints permission to give the skates the full allocation for this game .

Thought it was already decided as a 12:45 kick off? Might've been a dream tho so don't hold me to that!
We used to have the lease on the Dolphin, St Denys and we ALWAYS used to shut. Not the best place to have a pub at times like these!

lol @ S-W lord-hate! - Yes we do, but we've moved on!
