NO ONE has ever won it twice.

The 16th running of the Southampton & District Social Clubs League individual cribbage knockout kicks off on Wednesday.

It’s one of the toughest competitions to win. So much so that no one has claimed The Ted Richards Memorial Trophy more than once.

Eight champions will be bidding to make history this season.

In the first round, Andy Brooke (champion in 2007) faces Terry Kitcher (2002), Richard Pegg (2005) meets Mike Eade (2004) and Fred Wakefield (2009) takes on Dave Hill (St Denys Cons).

Tom Davidson (2000), Pete Robinson (2010) and defending champion Ashley North receive byes into the second round.

League chairman Terry Kitcher (St Denys Cons), twice runner-up since his victory ten years ago, has come closest to breaking the jinx.

A total of 56 players will cram into Woolston Conservative Club next Wednesday, January 11, for the first two rounds. Full draw in today’s Echo.
