THANK you for the memories in the Daily Echo on Saturday, May 11.
First you mentioned the Maypole dancing in Durley.
I was born and brought up in Durley, and attended Durley School where we participated in the Maypole dancing in the 1950’s.
We practised in readiness for the local church fete, every summer.
The other memory was the Then and Now feature of Queensway in Southampton, showing pictures of what was Edwin Jones, and is now Debenham’s.
It reminded me of visits to see Father Christmas in my childhood, and later, when I was first married, my late mother-in-law loved this shop.
It was one of her greatest pleasures to be taken out on a weekly expedition with her daughters to Edwin Jones, to spend the day out in town, having lunch and shopping.
Thanks again for prompting these memories.
PAT BAYLEY, Southampton.
