I CAN understand the reticence in accepting global warming exists and scepticism in regards to any figures published from Government departments, Mr McCarthy of Hedge End may have.

It is, however, very intelligent scientists that model climate temperatures, and highly numerate civil servants processing financial figures on energy consumption.

Evidence continues to accumulate, pointing to more acidic oceans, and ever shrinking ice caps. The situation has worsened since climate change became a commonlyknown scientific fact.

Mr McCarthy may well have enjoyed his quip, at the expense of Green Party members; however he should take time to furnish us with more substantial scientific facts as to why the Green Movement are as he told us, ‘daft’! We can then take the time to substantiate our future political position.

Finally, Green Party members are from all walks of life. I would hope there is a crosssection of thinking within our party.

Greens encourage most forms of renewable energy production as they involve the least amount of risk to the environment and to the health and well-being of humans.

For this sustainable philosophy there is, though, an extra charge to our community, yet many more ethical jobs and careers are created as a result.

JOE COX, Southampton Green Party.
